Houston Texans at Miami Dolphins - Injury Report
Yesterday afternoon, the official injury report for the Houston Texans at Miami Dolphins injury report was released. The Dolphins continue to have only a few players on the report, while Houston has several player listed.
Most notably for the Dolphins is the move of both rookies into the probable category, as both FB/TE Charles Clay and RB Daniel Thomas missed the Week 1 opener. The Miami running game was lacking last week, and the return of players seen by most as high potential, needed pieces for the Dolphins is a welcome sight.
As for the Texans, running back Arian Foster is still listed as questionable, although he is expected, at least by the media, to play this week. However, Foster may have lost his starting job to fellow running back Ben Tate, who also shows up on the report, however he is listed as probable.
Make the jump to see the entire list for both teams:
Houston Texans:
Out:
RB Derrick Ward (Ankle & Shoulder/did not practice)
CB Roc Carmichael (Shoulder/limited practice) - Placed on IR after release of official report.
Questionable:
WR Kevin Walter (Shoulder & Quadricep/limited practice)
RB Arian Foster (Hamstring/limited practice)
CB Sherrick McManis (Hamstring/limited practice)
Probable:
CB Jason Allen (Knee/full practice)
G Thomas Austin (Knee/full practice)
G Antoine Caldwell (Ankle/full practice)
LB Brian Cushing (Foot/full practice)
CB Brandon Harris (Ankle/full practice)
LB Brooks Reed (Wrist/full practice)
LB DeMeco Ryans (Elbow & Achilles’/full practice)
RB Ben Tate (Quadricep/full practice)
LB Mario Williams (Elbow/full practice)
DT Shaun Cody (Neck/limited practice)

Miami Dolphins:

WR Roberto Wallace (Quadricep/did not practice today)
Probable:

FB/TE Charles Clay (Hamstring/full practice today)
RB Daniel Thomas (Hamstring/full practice today)

Sorry, first time doing that…
I like the fact they are a little more banged up than us!!
we really need Clemons back
can’t believe I’m actually saying that…

He was solid.... he was always there....
I don’t know why someone would not be happy with what that guy has done….

He's just a top 16 FS. He's not a weakness on this team, but
we do need better.

even in college he wasnt exactly an int machine
Hes smart, not overly aggressive, and keeps himself in good position. That is why ive been saying hes Bells replacement allready on this roster.

Jones is, he isn't fast/quick enough to play FS. Last game kinda proved that.

I just dont see it,i mean, perhaps, but the way our d is run, seems we do more from the SS position
Maybe its just me,and I am overthinking things, but to me,it seems more feasible to put the smarter quicker guy at SS.
Smith doesnt get thrown to often, and hes good in man coverage unless he is cramping up, Vontaeis the more aggressive one,and seems to be the one needing someone to help in schemes where he is lined up against the number 1 reciever.
Just makes more sense to have him there. This way we dont have all our risk takers on one side of the field.
This also allows for us to assist on both sides with coverage on tight ends, seeing as thats where we get burnt most. Reshad may not be good in coverage, but he is a tackling machine. We could also run the D through the SS position if Clemmons is there.
Just the better smarter way to go,imo. And would probably match the Steelers D in ability to scheme.

Except Jones can't play the FS position.
I would have no opposition if Clemons got the SS if we get Ray Ray.

Clemons can. He can play SS if we get Ray Ray and be the back up FS.

The SS
With the way the passing game is evolving, I really don’t see it much as a FS and SS anymore. Right now it seems they’re evolving to having 2 FS positions instead. The days of the SS, where you have a very strong player in run support, but normally a little slower and not as adept to getting to the ball in the air, are nearing an end.

True, but the SS is still a better run supporter and is stronger.
The SS has to do everything a old school SS has to plus the ability to play nickel.

Go ahead and poke fun
but I’d take Jason Allen back on this team after the way our secondary looked last week. Let’s see if we can improve about 75%. Allen might have a decent year now that Houston added some playmakers in the secondary.

Why don't we try to confuse this new 3-4 defense?
Run A LOT of 2 TE sets with Fasano and Clay/Rosario and Thomas in the backfield. Do some inside runs to their weakest point on the d-line and switch it up with play action plays to the TEs. Make the ILBs, who just switched the 3-4, run around with their head spinning.
Once the safety starts to creep in with a lot of inside runs and TE passes bring in Gates and go play action deep to him. Game over!

What I am about to say has nothing to do with this post...
but writing it up as a fanpost coud have been seen as ironic. I have been reading all of the complaining by some of the veterans around here regarding the misuse of the fanpost section. Some vets are bailing on the sight, suggesting that this is a main reason why. While I don’t necessarily think its that big of a deal, I can certainly understand what they are saying. So I started thinking of ways to possibly resolve the issue, and I came up something that I want to throw out to all of you and see if it is a viable idea. I don’t think people, especially newcomers, are really familiar with, or comfortable with, the Fanshot, which is where these “problem posts” typically belong. So what if the positioning of the Fan posts and Fanshots on the front page were reversed. Meaning that the Fanshots would be at the top of the right hand column, and the fanposts be towards the bottom. That way, Fanshot visibility would be up, which may, in turn , increase familiarity and use of the fanshots. People will look for the Fanposts, so I dont think they number of Fanposts reads would falter. I would assume that many people den’t scroll down for the fanshots. I know for the first few months I was here, I rarely did. Mosul, I don’t know if this is something that you have the power to do, even if you wanted to. Front page layout may be an SB nation thing. But I am interested in what you guys think of this. And feel free to be critical, I haven’t really though this completely through yet, so if there is a downside to it, I may not have realized it yet

Jacoby Jones
Who is faster and almost as tall. Walter is 6’3 and Jones is 6’2. Jones is more dangerous. He had a return TD last week and he had one against us the last time he played us. I hope that answered your question.

Jones hasn't done well as a receiver. Unless you are playing Madden.
He had under 300 yards last season.
Walter is their #2, but isn’t nearly as good as Hartline. After Johnson and Olsen, they don’t have a receiving threat.

Walter isn't bad
I wouldn’t count Walter out… he’s had a rash of injuries over the past 2-3 years that have kept his numbers down. Granted… he’s not expected to play Sunday.
Hartline is a very good #2. Was on track for 900 yards last season.

Last year, Hartline averaged as more yards/game than Bess.
Bess averaged about 53 yards per game.
Walter averaged 39 yards per game in 2010.
He averaged 43.6 yards per game in 2009. I’d take Hartline any day of the week because he averages about 12-16.8 yards more a game.

Left out
I like how you left out ‘09 stats for Hartline. He only had 31 catches for an average of 31 yards a game as opposed to Walter’s 53 catches for 43 yards per game. Plus injuries shortened both of their games last year.

He also wasn't a #2 WR
Ginn and Camarillo were Miami’s #1 and #2 WRs. Davone Bess was the #3 WR. I’d say Hartline’s numbers in 2009 were pretty good for a #4 WR.

In the texans offense we do not expect alot out of our #2 WR.
Walter brings more to the game then catching. He is a hell of a blocker down the field. Foster got down the field alot because of walter blocking.
Hartline is the strongest guy on our team, pound for pound.
There was one time when he was being held down the field in a pass route and he just toosed the CB to the ground.

Wrong again dude
As good as Dansby is, TEs and Rbs have been killing us for years. I don’t know what you were watching last year, but Tes killed us more than anything else. The Patriots, Jets (both x2), Ravens, and pretty much every team we played killed us with their TE.
They weren't killing us last year. Except for that one NYJ game where we decided to not put Dansby on
Keller for the 1st half. After that, no problems.

Wrong
Todd Heap and Ray Rice had about 90% of the Ravens passing yards. Keller killed us. The Patriots Tes killed us in both games even though the special teams hurt in the first game. Watson killed us from Cleveland. C’mon man !
Rice had over 150 receiving yards. Crowder was almost the only one to ever try to cover him.
Not Dansby. Heap actually didn’t have a good day.

Well don’t take my word for it then. I guess Sparano is wrong too when he said we have had this same problem covering TEs for years. That is why we acquired Burnett- to help with this recurring theme. I think you need to go to Lens Crafters dude- lol.
EWe got Burnett because Dansby can't do it all by himself.

Finley
Finley was hurt and not in the game dude. Had he been, he WOULD have killed us and we probably would have lost that game. Get your facts right brother.
He still didn't kill us. :-P
and Dansby was gold last year.

That is because Crowder was ranked among the league's worst coverage LBs
Sadly, Dobbins finished worst. Dansby ranked pretty well in coverage.

This is how I see the matchups:
QB: Texans. Schaub is in the 8-10 range for QBs in the league. Henne can get close to Schaub’s level in a couple years but isn’t there yet.
RB:
Rushing- Texans. Dolphins are very unproven there right now and Texans have some great inside runners.
Catching- Dolphins. Bush might be the best pass-catching RB in the league. Foster is good also but his touches will be limited.
WRs: Dolphins. Johnson easily the best, but Phins have better depth, especially with Walter out.
TEs: Texans. Daniels is underrated and they have good depth behind him.
O-line: Texans. Texans are better right now but the Dolphins will have it easier than the Texans, so it should be pretty close.
D-Line: Dolphins. Dolphins have one of the top 5 NTs in the game with Soliai. Have great depth and talent at DE. I love JJ Watt and think he’ll be an elite 3-4 DE in a couple years but I’m not sold on the NT position, which is the most important in a 3-4.
LBs: Dolphins. This one is the closest. Wake is a totally different player than Mario but both are elite pass rushers. Demeco and Brian are talented but so are Dansby and Burnett. I give a slight edge at the other OLB spot because I think Misi is a very good run stopper and Jason Taylor brings pass rush on 3rd downs. Texans aren’t very familiar with this scheme, so they may be caught out of position.
CBs: Dolphins.. I think Joesph is a top 10 CB in this league. But I think Smith and Davis are both in the top 20, with Smith closing in on the top 10. This would be closer but the Texans don’t have a solid #2 CB.
Safeties: Dolphins. This is close also. Bell is a pro bowl SS at the end of his career. Manning is a very fast safety that covers a lot of ground quickly but can be caught of position. The other safety is a tossup with Clemons out. Jones makes plays but can be caught out of position also. Quin I have no clue about but he played with the Texans last year so that has to say something. Slight edge to the Dolphins.
I got S + What a Dog's Tail Does.
One of them "Young Guns"
Football doesn't work like that.
It is their WRs vs. our CBs. Their TEs vs. our SS and ILBers. etc. etc.
Their RB vs. our front 7: Our LBers should bounce back from last weeks tackling debacle and our DL should play much better on a whole. We should limit Foster because there will be no holes to run through.
Johnson vs. Smith: Last matchup, Smith got the better of Johnson; limiting Johnson went 3 for 40. But that was only some of the snaps in the 1st half and the 2nd half and Johnson is still Johnson.
Davis vs. Jones: Davis was picked on by Brady until he got cramps. He didn’t allow many completions, though. Jones isn’t that good of a WR, so Davis should be able to almost completely shut him down.
Daniels vs. Dansby: If Bell is on Daniels, this is something Shaub will know to exploit, but I expect Dansby to be on him most of the game. Dansby is our space-eating ILBer and does very well against athletic TEs. Last week was the worst performance he’s ever had as a Dolphin, he had 4+ missed tackles. He is also the most likely defensive player to bounce back from that defensive showing because of last year’s dominance.
Your Other TEs vs. Burnett and Bell: Burnett struggled last game and we don’t know if he will improve. He might have been a one year wonder, or it could have been a bad day. Bell struggles in coverage and I hope we blitz him a lot or put him in zone. Both of these he excels in.
Your OL vs. our pass rush. If Wake returns to form and generates a pass rush or if have to you triple team him; we will be able to dominate in the trenches a game long. Our DL are very good when isolated and Bell and Allen are good blitzers. I personally don’t know if Wake will though.
Our rushing attack vs. their front 7: We are getting our bruising RB, Daniel Thomas, back and from comments; it seems like your D is weak up the middle. Our OC will probably take advantage of that. Also, Bush has been running hard while in MIA and so far, if he gets a hole, he’ll give us 10+ yards.
Marshall vs. Joesph: This will be an interesting battle, as I don’t know much about Joesph. Marshall had a field day last monday against a more talented pro bowl CB in McCourtny. Pretty sure he’ll add to that tomorrow.
Hartline vs. Allen: Hartline is the most underrated Dolphin and should win this matchup. Also, watch for Hartline to beat Allen deep. Hartline has the nose for the big play. Hartline is a jack off all trades and will see plenty of ball thrown his way.
Bess vs. Jackson: Bess didn’t see many targets until late in the 4th QTR last game. He might be getting phased out of the O with the edition of Bush and emergence of Hartline. Still, Bess will win this matchup; as good as he is.
Fasano vs. ILBer: From comments their ILBers leave something a lot to be desired. Good thing for you, Fasano is a better blocker than receiver and will be double teaming Williams when Williams is on the right side. Fasano is a good route runner and has very good hands. He is just slower than molasses.
Our other TEs vs. their ILB/S: Clay has impressed all TC long and was frequently beating just about everyone that was put across from him. We are getting him back from injury. I want to see him a lot tomorrow; he has the potential to be as good as Clark. He is nopt a good blocker though. He might do well considering their ILB situation. Yeatman and Shuler (?) will not see significant PT.
Gates vs Texans CB: We are 6 deep at the WR position and I think this game will show it. We should spread the ball out with 5 wide and pick on the Texan’s CB depth deficiencies.

I have seen in a long time. kind of reminds me of a smaller louis oliver-always lookin to hit and can’t cover worth shit. he is gonna get us killed being out of position and/or failing to stop big plays with his poor angles. anyways, fins 31-28.
