AFC East Review - Miami Dolphins Only Team in Division To Lose
Yes, I put it up there. Right on the headline. The Miami Dolphins were the only team to lose this week from the AFC East. You know what, there are times when Dolphins fans have celebrated the perfect AFC East week - you know, the week when the New England Patriots, New York Jets, and Buffalo Bills all lose? Well, this week was exactly the opposite - but it's still just one loss. Does anyone really expect a team to go undefeated? Miami just needs to win during the weeks when those teams lose, and they are right back in the Division catbird's seat.
I thought it would be interesting each week to just do a quick recap of the other AFC East teams, just so we can all keep an eye on the competition, and where we stand. I know most of us will know which teams won, and which teams lost, but this will be a quick summary of everything that happened with the other teams, all in one place.
With that, let's look at each of the other AFC East teams from this past week:
Buffalo Bills - The Bills came out and decimated the Kansas City Chiefs, in Arrowhead Stadium, this past week. Although they have gotten better since last season, no one expected them to finish Week 1 with the best Total QBR ranked quarterback. Buffalo 41 - Kansas City 7
New England Patriots - We all know what the Patriots did this week.Tom Brady set a new personal best with 517 yards passing, while he and Chad Henne combined for a new NFL record of 933 yards passing, with the Patriots and Dolphins having 903 yards passing (30 yards in sacks), also an NFL record. New England 38 - Miami 24.
New York Jets - The Jets continue to demonstrate why they are the luckiest team ever fielded. I don't understand how this team keeps having things like the comeback, and the interception straight to Darrelle Revis, and the blocked punt, and...well, you get the idea. This team is put away by the Cowboys, only to storm back and win it. All while Mark Sanchez had the fourth worst Total QBR ranked game from Week 1. Dallas 24 - NY Jets 27.

great info mosul
This is a tough divison. We got to win next week, because the Jets and Bills look like they SHOULD win.
It will be tough to beat Houston, but I know if the Phins play like a team and communicate well, we can win any game.

Making a huge prediction here
but I think our D is pretty PO’d.
I think they’re going to play Houston, obviously with a chip on their shoulders. I predict the D will let us beat Houston by double digits.

Nice post!
I’m a die hard Dolphin fan, so this is hard to read. I feel no animosity towards the Patriots because they are simply an awesome team. The Bills are perpetually bad, so they can do well every now and then and deserve it.
What I can’t stand is the Jets. It’s not even that they are a good team, which they are. Their defense is legitimately dominant, they’ve got some good receivers. What I cannot stand is the way the media and public wants to jerk off Mark Sanchez. I swear if you asked ESPN, they’d probably rate the top tier of QBs as Tom, Peyton (pre-injury), Rodgers, Brees and Sanchez. Bullshit. Look at all the metrics, the guy is a bum. Henne beats him in most categories, yet Henne is shunned and Sanchez is celebrated.
One of the things I truly hate in life is people getting/taking credit when it isn’t deserved. Not sure why, but it is really the only thing that pisses me off. The bad thing is he seems like a nice kid, and I’m sure if you were just sitting next to him on a plane, you’d have a great conversation. But I hope he fails just to shove it up the media’s ass.
Dolphins and Gators baby!
I honestly don't see this
I’ve never seen the media rank Sanchez highly and the public knows he is not top 10 material now and may never be. What Sanchez gets credit for is never giving up and playing his best when the game is on the line which has resulted in some great and exciting come from behind wins. That’s it. Personally I think he should get credit for that.

personally...i think...
Sanchez gets credit for being apart of a team that has gotten to back to back AFC championship games. He is not that good. But he stops making mistakes when the time is right. The Jets are aware that they have a game manager and by asking him to do too much would result in them likely failing….
Personally, i dont think the Jets are going to make the playoffs this year.

Great Post...
Loving the amount of detail this year!

we have to bring our pass rush against the Texans
Our coverage was horrible but it was all the time Brady had in the pocket that allowed him to beat us so bad. I’ve watched Schaub since his college days and I can tell you he is a very solid QB when given time. He will lose it for his team if you get on him early and often enough.
We also need to stop those damn draw plays the Pats kept using so well on us.
Your Cruel Mosul
As if I couldnt feel worse. Woodhead and Benjarvis 5 yds a pop! Fasano has the game of his career(ok im exagerating)and still gets outplayed by both NE TE’s. We have never beaten the Texans! And this is the best they have ever been! I need more PEPTO!
relax texans had a give me this sunday
Dolphins are going to fight these guys. Atleast we had a real game already

Hope the Texans underestimate us like the rest of the league/media
But if there was ever a year to FINALLY beat those guys, it’s this year………

I have sat and looked at our roster
And have come to the conclusion that we have 0 depth behind our starters apart from at d-line where we have 5-6 guys who could be starters. This frightens me, we have too many wait-and-see development guys like Carroll, Jerry, Thomas and even Jones to an extent.
by LimeyPhin on Sep 14, 2011 7:54 AM EDT via mobile reply actions
then you should consider standing and looking at it.
you may see that we have a pretty solid team. And very few teams having blockbuster depth at every position.

i was upset like any other phins fan after the game
But even in that loss, there was a big sign of hope. This team can play at a high level. We need to bring it to the Texans, and a win this Sunday will create more believers, I’m sure of this

What are they puttin
in ur beans bro! I want some! If we beat the Texans I will believe, That we got lucky fool!!!
Beating the Texans will be more than luck
Along with Detroit, they’ve been the beneficiary of high draft picks for a while. They’ve had stability in the coaching and they’re new DC is very good. Can we take advantage of their conversion to the 3-4? It’s brand new to them, hopefully we can exploit some weaknesses.
Our “beat down” was far more of a game then folks want to acknowledge. The Patsies are not looking forward to playing us again, trust me (Brady told Gisselle, she told me). The Texans come off an easy win and play us in our house. Things are setting up for them to have some severe disappointment soon if they look at Monday nights score and think we’re soft…….

luck!!!!!!!
that is just ignorant. Be a believer and have confidence that your team can beat anyone without luck. C’mon man! We can beat them straight up!

We have never beaten the Texans
Our team is out of shape, our coach is clueless, we have no running game to speak of, and we couldn’t put pressure on mother Goose if she was QB. I hope we win, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose worse than we did to NE.
Our D's conditioning got exposed. The O put up over 400yds. The entire team is not out of shape.
Our clueless coach inherited a D he upgraded masterfully (yeah yeah MNF they got exposed, it happens), and now it looks as though he’s upgraded the O. Look around the league, there weren’t too many big running games out there week 1, wouldn’t give up so easy on that one. And yeah, QB pressure sucked against Patsies, but that will not be the norm.
I’m glad we got smacked in the mouth the first game. Our guys (mainly D) thought they were better than they are. It just might set a good tone for the rest of the season. An early lesson in not letting your foot off the pedal…………

QB pressure is (was) my biggest concern on defense this year.
For Nolan’s defense to be really good, they need to generate pressure with the front 4. I don’t know who, besides Wake, can generate that pressure.
If Nolan has to blitz to get pressure, it exposes the DB’s. Besides Smith, none of them that I have seen can play man coverage.
Misi, Taylor, Starks, Odrick, Langford, etc. need to really step up their QB pressure. If they don’t, look out because Schaub, Rivers, etc are coming.

The preview look very competitive
Pats was clearly the favorite team to win de division…
But I’m not gone a bid who will be the second… looks like Fitzpatrick could have a brakedown season like Henne, and have very good receivers too, and CJ Spinner give the kind of dimension on his game plan like Bush or us.
And Jets… well… the could have some pact with the devil or something… this kind of Luck was un-natural!!!!
All I keep hearing from everyone is that it is a QB driven league...
and that you can’t go deep into the playoffs without a franchise QB. Should we be upset that we lost one game out of 16 to a 14-2 team with a first ballot HoF QB when we were outschemed on defense and they took advantage of our defense’s youth? Add to that Brady had to put up record numbers to beat us. We got embarrassed the first game of the season by being out of shape and I believe our guys are going to be driven the rest of the season. They know we have a QB that can hang with just about any QB in the league if they do their job on defense. Expect the defense to come out hungry against the Texans. Benny Sapp is out, Will Allen is in. Our O-line (that we were all worried about) was not all that bad. Any time you can put up 416 yds of passing you are doing something right. We were one-dimensional most of the game, but Bush was running hard between the tackles when we gave it to him. If we can get Larry Johnson involved as a change of pace back we will be unstoppable. If we run LJ on the goaline a few times instead of hoping that we can complete a low percentage pass, the game looks a lot different. I love that they trusted Henne to make that play though, and I am sure he will this season. No one expected us to win that game, but we showed some nice things that game.
Henne only threw one interception in the game and that was in garbage time on a deflected pass that he was trying to force in to coverage to put us into a position to win that game despite all the woes on defense. Can you honestly tell me that you would have thoguht that Henne had a chance to be in the record books in week 1 of the season? I know I was not expecting that.
Prove everyone that said you weren't a franchise QB wrong, Henne. "WE WANT HENNE!!" GO PHINS!! What can I say I am a homer, I have come to terms with that and accepted it. I predict 10-6 and a wildcard berth. Jets got worse this year when they lost Ellis to the Patriots. The Patriots are going to be more solid on defense this year than they have in the past.
by Jason Scott_90 on Sep 14, 2011 10:29 AM EDT reply actions
I expecting a solid game
not a record game… but the performance let me think a very good season for Henne
I am very excited to welcome back Will Allen!!!
It was a mistake to let him go in the first place. We have been better than the Texans every season that we have faced them, yet we have always found ways to get behind early and lose. This week will be different. I dont believe that the Texans O-Line can embarrass us like the the Pats did. I dont believe the Schaub is as amazing an opportunistic as Brady. We can beat them, and we should.
We can beat the Patriots next time we face them. We lost one game during a shortened off-season season. Patriots are a well tuned machine, but we have the potential put kinks in their well tuned machine. I truly believe that we have a 12 win team here guys. We just need to start playing like one.
