Just an Observation

PrintBeing part of this site for many years this site is not what it once was. It was a close net community with articles being posted by 1-3 main writers with the the people/fans of this site filling in the rest. Now it is quickly becoming a hollow shell of what it once was as it transforms itself (seemingly) into just 'another' site to put out information that most people brushed over before they found this place.
So much information that the site could do without, so many writers, so much of everything all these other sites have that didn't create the following The Phinsider had just by being itself. Now this is not a knock on Mosul, the new writers (what 5 now? Really?), and the job they are doing, it just a observation. I don't know what kinda rules they have Mosul working under and what he is trying to accomplish. It just seems the site is selling its soul and stretching itself thin just to becoming another "main stream" site. I wish it wasn't so, but they say all thing must end.
Again, I'm not saying. I'm just saying.

Mosul is under a mandate to up the volume of information. This is a lot of what has
happened and the number of writers has only grown by two over what it was when Matty was in charge.

This stuff had already begun to happen under Matty.
The influx of users has been huge. It’s no longer a small personal club, so yes, it has lost something.
It’s still a damn fine site, and and Mosul is doing a great job.

When I took over, we were at about 6800 members
Now we are at nearly 7500.
It’s the start of the season influx. Not all of them will stick around, and during the offseason, it will become a ghost town here, but right now is the busiest and largest new member time of the year.

We are currently averaging over 10 new members a day.
It will slow down once the season really gets going, but right now we are growing incredibly fast.

all i know is that i come to this site at least 20 times a day
as a die hard fin fan in new york, this site helps me so much by letting me interact with fin fans as big as i am, and stay up to date with whats going on with the team i love. mosul ur doing a great job man, and yes it may be getting more mainstream, but u still keep that personal level there on ur posts, and people who have been here for a while (i have for about a year and a half now) definitly still feel that personel approach of this dolphin community

Your the one fulfilling a contract. I would be willing to bet that somewhere in that contract it says you must get a certain number of new members. While of the other “veterans” surely do not enjoy mine and others presences.

i get what Neo is stating, but it is less about new members or number of members… it is more about format and content. Mosul is doing a great job with the goals that have been set out for him, but IMO there is just not enough football to talk about in 5 articles a day, so there are a lot of recaps and redundancy of information.
In the “old days” articles would stick on the front page a bit longer and there was more opinion and discussion around them. I think we are working toward a happy middle ground and that will hopefully bring a little more balance as the season progresses.

NJAlexH I do not think that is even close to true. I have been here for a couple of years
now and I have seen many new “regulars” come along in that time. For the most part the vets have always been welcoming of new folks that show up. There have been on occasion those that show up and right from the start decide they are going to go all scorched earth on people around here over their opinion. This of course has not always gone over so well but even that tends to fix itself one way or another.

site caretaker. threre is no limit to the appetite of the web, one can turn into the mouse on the wheel.

You got all types of fans: The die-hards that were there for the Perfect Season. The loud, proud kids popping off at the keyboard. The Skeptics. The numbers guys. the diagrammers. The film break down guys. The Grumps. The Homers. The crashers (other tames fans fronting to cast doubt on the faithful). It’s all here! I love it.
And the news is solid, and as unbiased as I’ve ever seen on any team’s fan site. That’s good, because then you get the real deals along with the opinions and the pep talks. I love it.
You guys kick ass. It’s a fact. All 7500+ of you. LOL!
You got Ohio bike riding to raise money for Cancer, a bunch of guys lobbying for jersey colors on opening night, a great poem written about catching that “MOMENT”, Pats fans answering questions about their team (with class), Medic showing us what animals our favorite players look like, picture captioning (lmao) and a few respectable breakdowns of the upcoming games.What sucks about that? NOTHING. It’s all you could want in a fan site and more.
And, I am NEW, but that gives me a distinct advantage as to seeing things for what they ARE…..because I ‘m not sure what they have been. And nobody knows what’s coming….EVER. And this place rocks!
Tonight is the night! We’re gonna see our guys clash helmets, splash sweat, draw blood for the first time this season.
We lose: we can bitch about it tomorrow, right here, with people who care and feel the pain as much as we do.

But still its not Mosul’s fault. Its SBNation tryin to get more hits and become main stream.
I still love this site. There are times when it feels like we might find the perfect balance of a close knit community and also reputable journalism.
I’m stickin with this place. Shout out to Uncle Finster, miss that dude’s insight and contribution.

RIGHT! You his the nail on the head with what I was saying. The FANS (community) MADE this site what it is. And just like what Jerry Jones did to Parcells after he built the Cowboys into contenders he kicked him out and wanted to take over. Thats what I’m seein with this site. The Uppers (not Mosul, higher) are clearly taking this site away from the people who made it and trying to take it and transform it to what THEY want to be. How bout they transform (or try to) the other sites into the best one they have (this one), and leave whats working alone?

if you believed that you are very naive. Jones was taking over after BP rebuilt the franchise to being respectable again by pushing players on Parcells. I won’t say his name I’ll just say “the player”. If Jerry really wanted Parcells there, he wouldn’t have done that

Oh that for sure was part of why Parcells left but the insiders here tell another story
so I in no way think I am naive. Just like everything much of that story eventually came out. Parcells came to Dallas with an agreement. In the long run Parcells realized that he could not live with the way that Jerry did things and like he always does left.
