Questionable:
RB Daniel Thomas (hamstring/limited practice today)
I'm surprised to see so many people on the Patriots injury list. With the history of the Patriots keeping everything close to the chest, that's a lot of people to now say are hurting - especially going in to Week 1. With Haynesworth listed as questionable, it's possible the Dolphins only have to worry about giant Vince Wilfork instead of both giant players.
The Patroits are decimated right now along their offensive line. With starters Connolly and Vollmer, and backup Wendell all hurting, against the strength and depth of the Dolphins' front seven, the Patriots are down in probably the worst position they could be.
For the Dolphins, I'm not surprised by either of the two players' statuses. I hope Thomas can play, as I would like to see him get some touches and some experiences, but the signing of Larry Johnson doesn't make it as probably that Thomas will make it onto thee field. Clay is out - kind of makes me miss Lousaka Polite.

Two rookies down for us sucks!
Looks like Larry and Lex are going to have big games. Or at least the chance to have a big game.
Never trust NE injury reports
Vollmer is the only one who won’t play.

Very, very, very true
It either lists no one, and everyone is out
Or it lists everyone, and no one is out.

Why does the NFL not call them on that? Goodell is a big stickler for the integrity of the game, that's the whole reason for the mandatory injury report in the first place.
After week 1, Tom Brady will be listed as probable w/ a sore shoulder for the rest of the season. If everyone else is required to report accurately, why aren’t the Patriots?

They are....
It’s just Bill Belichik accurate. lol
As long as he can justify putting someone on it, or leaving someone off, who is going to be able to prove that it’s inaccurate?

Goodell is not a court of law. If he thinks that players or coaches are not following the rules, he'll usually take them to task.
It is crazy how many times Brady has been probable with a sore shoulder. It just seems like they abuse it more than most.

Can
Our defensive line pressure Brady to make him appear human ? I think this year we can. Defensive line depth is a great strength this year. It doesn’t hurt having outstanding linebackers either. Brady picking grass out of his helmet … that’s what I want to see.
Grabbing his "right hip" with his left hand is zack'ly what these eyes want to visualize!

I'm not sure how that became the "Brady Rule"
Carson Palmer must be pissed, it was first tabled the year that he had a defensive lineman kamikaze-dive his knee.

He's always listed as having it
And the reason he and Belichick always give is he throws 500 times during the season, he throws thousands more in practice, thousands in the offseason… his arm is always a little sore.
Belichick’s obliged to list every injury, so he does, no matter how minor. If that means the injury report out of New England is incomprehensible, so be it.
What benefit does the league get out of knowing the injuries of players, anyway? I wouldn’t dare suggest it’s a Vegas thing…

New England's playing almost entirely 4-3 sets, thus far, especially with Haynesworth on the field
The projected starting lineup would be:

The first time they tried it...
In the first half against the Buccaneers, the Bucs had 28 first-half offensive snaps, and the Patriots hit, sacked, or pressured the quarterback (both Freeman and Johnson) 26 times.
First time (and only time) using the starting D-line, 26/28 plays were sacks, QB hits, or QB pressures. Boom.

Yeah, I think that's the kicker
When they’re on the field they’re a wrecking crew, but they’re both such big men that I suspect they’ll use Haynesworth when they need to, not on every down.
Belichick seems to have taken that into consideration, because the D-line is probably the deepest unit on the team.

One little thing...
Haynesworth didn’t play against the Bucs. He didn’t even practice until August 23, five days after the game. He saw his first preseason action against the Giants. He played about 18 snaps and looked winded when he left the game.
- Attempting to debate with a person who has abandoned reason is like giving medicine to the dead.

Are you suggesting Haynesworth isn't an upgrade over Kyle Love, or Darryl Richard?
"Perhaps it was the Noid who should have avoided me." Mayor Adam West
Nope
But what I am suggesting is that people shouldn’t think Haynesworth and Wilfork didn’t combine to wreak havoc on the Bucs backfield because Haynesworth also didn’t play. I also think the 26/28 number is a little exaggerated because while I think the Pats did get some good pressure, it wasn’t as often. Heck, the Bucs ran the ball 6 or 7 times in the first half (not a lot and weren’t successful) and Freeman wasn’t pressure every time he dropped back.
The Pats dominated the game, but those stats are greatly exaggerated I believe and I wanted to clarify that it wasn’t Haynesworth/Wilfork wreaking havoc.

Question for you,
how do you feel about your secondary after the loss of Butler and Merriweather?
'Phins phor Liphe!

Honestly, I'm stoked Meriweather's gone
I’ve been calling for his head for a while now, although I’d have preferred to trade him away. The guy does stupid things on the field (like tackling McCourty instead of the WR, not once but twice), and constantly roams out of position just because he feels like it.
He’s got all the talent in the world and could’ve been another Ed Reed, but he’s now just a guy who can’t stick to a basic Cover-2 assignment without it becoming a giant liability as to whether he’ll bite on playaction or somehow become a linebacker. Ugh.
Butler, I think, got caught out of a philosophy change. He’s a smaller CB in a defensive backfield full of bigger guys, and he was at his best playing off-coverage. The Pats are looking for bigger guys who can jam, so they can ramp up the aggressive pass-rush, and Butler just didn’t fit any more.

Great insight,
thanks man. One more question, do you feel it was an instant upgrade at DB or are there going to be some bumps in the road while the new starters find their groove?
'Phins phor Liphe!
Draft The Newtron Bomb!

Definite bumps
They also cut the other part-time 2010 starter, James Sanders, because he was too expensive and starting to slow down. He was the leader of the D, so having him and Meriweather gone at the same time is a bit of a knock.
The real issue, at least in my eyes, was they lost Jarrad Page to free agency. They’d initially put him under a RFA contract, but the renegotiated CBA made him a full free agent again, so he went to the Eagles. He’s the one guy from 2010 who I didn’t want to lose.
In saying that, they’ve still got Pat Chung, and I’m sure you ‘Phins fans remember him. They’ve also got ex-UFA Sergio Brown, and he basically won the Pats-Chargers game last year by cleaning Antonio Gates’s clock on what would’ve been a reception to set up a chip-shot field goal. They also took James Ihedigbo from the Jets, and he can stand in at Safety at a pinch.
It’s an unproven unit, but has interesting physical makeup.
At CB, Bodden and McCourty are likely to be known to you guys, and they have second-round CB Ras-I Dowling, who did pretty well in his first action in the 4th game. The opposition didn’t try to pick on him, which was a good sign. At 4th CB is Kyle Arrington, and he was a starter last year who played fairly well, although he’s a better special teamer than he is a Cornerback.

Any time
I’m by no means trying to say they’re invulnerable – far from. They’ve very young at safety and cornerback, and the linebackers are learning to play 4-3 on the fly. The D-line are all old guys, which is both good and bad, for obvious reasons.
Should be interesting to see how Belichick makes them tick, though.

I’m assuming the secondary will have some hardships early on, which will make fantasy owners quick to drop their defense. If the old guys can make it through the season, you guys could be a powerhouse in fantasy points in November/December.

Connolly wouldn't have started anyway.
Brian Waters would be the starting right guard, regardless. But Connolly is our fullback in short yardage situations, and our #1 utility interior lineman, so hopefully no one else gets hurt. Out of all of those names, Vollmer is the least likely to play, which is terrible because he’s a rock at either tackle position.

“No competitive advantage” – Rodger Goodell.
Why?
Jimmy Johnson claimed, “This is exactly how I was told to do it 18 years ago by a Kansas City Chiefs scout. I tried it, but I didn’t think it helped us.”
Cheating is, by definition, breaking a rule to gain a competitive disadvantage. No advantage, no cheating. There was a broken rule, yes, but that wasn’t a New England-only thing by any stretch of the imagination.
Jimmy Johnson said, “Bill Belichick was wrong because he videotaped signals after a memo was sent out to all of the teams saying not to do it. But what irritates me is hearing some reactions from players and coaches. These players don’t know what their coaches are doing. And some of the coaches have selective amnesia because I know for a fact there were various teams doing this. That’s why the memo was sent to everybody. That doesn’t make [Belichick] right, but a lot of teams are doing this.”

If
The scandal wasn’t an issue … It wouldn’t have been a story. That happened before. I don’t care about THAT anymore. We are all 0-0 in the AFC East. Dolphin fans will always remember though. I still remember the snow being removed by an ex-con to give you guyz a field goal win. Ron Meyer was a cheat too. I’m over it … believe me. The only thing that matters is Monday Night. I’m glad you came by. The rivalry is great.
It is, yes
Especially in Miami, the ’Phins are particularly competitive at home (I think Brady is 4-5 in Miami).
I’m just hoping the makeshift O-line can keep Misi and Wake and co. off Brady. Out of the guys you listed, the only one I could comfortably say is actually entirely unlikely to play is Sebastian Vollmer, which means LT-of-the-future Nate Solder is out of position at RT, starting his first NFL game. Yikes.
I’d expect the Pats to be using near-constant 2-TE sets with both Gronkowskis shoring up the OTs.

Yeah
I snuck over to your site when I heard the news about Solder. I hope you use a tight end to block wake … one less offensive weapon. Makes Burnett more effective.
More likely...
They’ll use Gronkowski (either one) to chip the OLB and force them inside into the OT, and the break off into short routes.
That’s how the Pats used Gronk against the Steelers, and on the three or four occasions where it was clear they weren’t pass-rushing from that side, they passed to Rob Gronkowski. The guy had 4 receptions, and three of them were for touchdowns.

No advantage?
When they found the tapes, NE sailed to a 16-0 record in the regular season. They then lost to a team they didn’t have on their schedule in The Super Bowl, ie a team they didn’t have tapes on.
Teams don’t change their offensive and defensive schemes midseason, and having practices on tape means New England definitely had an advantage. New England has not come close to that type of dominance since the scandal. Wonder why?

The Pats were punished in week 2 of 2007, and every tape they had was confiscated by Goodell.
They then ran the table on the NFL.
Not only that, but the New England team has actually had a higher win ratio post-Spygate. They’re a better team after they stopped taping. It clearly didn’t do a hell of a lot.

I disagree.
There is no way to tell that all the tapes were gone, no way to tell that what was on the tapes had not been documented otherwise at some other point, and the 16-0 record I think indicts them more than exonerates.

Fox Sports showed what was on one of the tapes when they broadcast a leaked copy
It was because of the leak that Goodell destroyed the other six (which is stupid, he should have just released all of them).
The tapes just showed what you’d expect to show. Jimmy Johnson described how it works – you sync up two cameras for time, have one tape the play, have one tape the signaler. You then match up the play and the appropriate signal after the game.
That’s it. It’s basically just taping what anyone in the crowd could see if they watched the coaching bench instead of the game.

Oh, and other coaches knew about it, and didn't care
The leaked copy showed Herm Edwards spot the cameras, wave to the Patriots videographers, and then keep doing his thing.
Herm Edwards, Bill Cowher and Tony Dungy were part of the Marty Schottenheimer coaching staff that invented signal-taping, in Kansas City.
The guy whose job it was to steal the signals and then interpret them was Howard Mudd. Mudd went on to be part of Tony Dungy’s coaching staff at Indianapolis.
Makes Dungy’s “waa, I despise Bill Belichick for signal-stealing” stuff a bit hypocritical, but oh well.

Practices?
The Pats didn’t have any tape of any practices. But don’t let a little thing like facts stop you, you’re on quite a roll.

Yeah, first time I have heard of it.
I’ll make a post about it eventually (when things calm down a little).

BTW...if you do make a post about it...
would be nice for you to make a post to the “owners{” or admins of the overall site. Like I said in my reply to your above comment…I tried getting ahold of SBNation through a multitude of ways. No luck, and no response. Would be nice to get something of an acknowledgement from them. Especially if they have a somewhat “in depth” Contact Us system.

Yea...I found that too. Crappy Government networks timed out so I kept clicking post when it kept timing out.
Still…I’ve tried contacting SB nation through sooo many ways…and not so much as a hey we received your email. Don’t take this the wrong way, but I was about to talk to my companies lawyers and see what I could do about privacy info and/or legal action…since I wanted SBNation to delete the account and I wasn’t getting a response. Just ended up saying screw it and created a new SN.

Really want to see Daniel Thomas healthy enough to play
I know Kansas State fans that swear we will be pleasantly surprised, can’t wait to see him in action. But I am digging the whole LJ rise from the ashes…….
As for the Patsies, I trust their injury report about as far as I can throw Wilfork……

Just uses the report as a psychological edge. Like if you expect Haynseworth to be out … then he plays … It’s a psychological hit. Like taking the wind out of your sails. BB has used this tactic so much … nobody pays attention … and the edge is nullified. Cry wolf … the Dolphins are gonna be ready for every possibility on Monday Night.

Mistake by Ross - the Physics would have been with us
Big mistake not to have this be a 1PM game
In Physics the surface area of any body increases as the square of its linear dimensions but the volume increases by the cube of its linear dimension. Hence volume increases faster than surface area as you get bigger. For example a cube one inch on a side has a surface area of 6 sq in and a volume of 1 cubic inch for a surface area to volume ratio of 6:1 while a cube 3 inches on a side has a surface area of 54 sq in and a volume of 27 cubic inches for a surface area to volume ratio of 54:27 or 2:1. Each cubic inch of the organism generates heat and weight. The result is that small things have a comparatively large surface area to radiate heat and cool down while big things have a comparatively small surface area to radiate away heat and cool down. This is why hummingbirds have to have very quick metabolism to keep their heat up while elephants have to have a slow metabolism lest they would melt. In football this means that the big players are overheating much more readily than the smaller players. Your muscles and nerves are all designed to be optimal at normal body temperature (~98.6 deg F). When they get heated more than a few degrees (a fever) or cooled more than a few degrees they become much more inefficient, slower and weaker. The end result is that big men suffer in the Miami heat more than smaller lighter men (Bess is a hummingbird compared the Haynesworth), get slower and weaker and lose more fluid (sweating is part of the mechanism to lose heat) and become dehydrated. This applies to the Miami big men as well as the NE big men but the Miamians are far more adapted to it, their bodies are used to exchanging bigger volumes of sweat and functioning in hot conditions.
So all of this is a way of saying we want out games early in the season at home starting at high noon.
really?
I’m surprised to see so many people on the Patriots injury list. With the history of the Patriots keeping everything close to the chest, that’s a lot of people to now say are hurting/blockquote>
Come on Mosul, you should know that Hoodiejacks off to the thought of messing with the injury reportenjoys screwing with the injury report
