ESPN Insider released their season previews for every team today. What they wrote about the Miami Dolphins is the most ignorant and upsetting thing i've seen in a while in regards to this team.
I copied and pasted the Dolphins segment after the jump.
Miami Dolphins
2010 Record: 7-9
2011 Projected Record: 6-10
Pass Offense:
This will be a conservative attack both by nature (head coach Tony Sparano and new coordinator Brian Daboll think that way) and necessity (limited personnel, starting at QB). That puts the onus on the tight ends and slot receivers to generate yards after the catch.Rush Offense:
Bush isn't the answer for Daboll's run-first power attack, especially with a weak interior line. Miami hopes C Mike Pouncey, the No. 15 overall pick, is part of the solution here. But 228-pound rookie RB Daniel Thomas better be ready to rumble too.Pass Defense:
Mike Nolan got this unit to play above its talent level as it made a smooth transition from the 4-3 to a 3-4. Nolan sprinkled in hybrid looks to benefit the outside pass rush, but Wake, at OLB, is the only big-play guy.Rush Defense:
The Dolphins held opponents to 3.6 YPC despite little star power outside of ILB Karlos Dansby, who does a great job filling gaps. But fifth-year DT Paul Soliai did show promise with a career-high eight TFLs.
I'll give you a second to digest this. I know it took me a few minutes.
Here are a few of my favorite quotes:
Mike Nolan got this unit to play above its talent level as it made a smooth transition from the 4-3 to a 3-4. Nolan sprinkled in hybrid looks to benefit the outside pass rush, but Wake, at OLB, is the only big-play guy.
Really? So Karlos Dansby, Yeremiah Bell, Kevin Burnett, Randy Starks, Kendall Langford and Paul Soliai aren't capable of making big plays? And what about our pair of up-and-coming cornerbacks?
This will be a conservative attack both by nature (head coach Tony Sparano and new coordinator Brian Daboll think that way) and necessity (limited personnel, starting at QB)
Conservative attack, huh? Has anyone been watching our preseason games? We have a self-proclaimed aggressive game plan. Sparano has gone on the record saying he has changed his philosophy.
And "limited personnel"? Reggie Bush, Brandon Marshall, Davone Bess?
2011 Projected Record: 6-10
So let me get this straight. We have gone 7-9 in the past two seasons. We are entering a year in which Chad Henne has another season as a starter under his belt. He is leading the league in passing stats in the preseason. This means nothing under normal circumstances but anyone who has watched the games can see that he has shown dramatic improvement.
6-10 is the same prediction they are giving the Bills. Is there an "expert" who is respected in any capacity that believes that the Dolphins are on the same level as the Bills? Combine this with the fact that we made a significant upgrade at linebacker (Kevin Burnett) and added the one thing that we needed on offense besides a quarterback (Reggie Bush, speed, excitement, big play potential), and this prediction is an embarassment.
