The dolphins defense is going to be an elite top 5 defense this year for damn sure. Everyone says defense wins championships and I happen to agree.
When I think of the dolphins defensive line I think not only great but I also think we have tons of depth. Our starting defensive ends will be Starks and Langford. Starks was a pro bowler last year. Langford is a very good player as well. Right behind them is last years 1st round pick Jared Odrick who has a ton of potential. The phins also just resigned Tony Mcdaniels who just recently stated how Miami is where he belongs. Their nosetackle will be top 5 in the league defensive tackle Paul Soliai who is simply a beast. Backing him up is Fields who use to be a Mike Nolan guy in San Francisco. I know Jason Taylor is more known as a linebacker in this defense but he could also play some defensive end if needed. We are absolutely stacked up front.
My next statement needs to be seriously considered and respected. OUR LINEBACKING CORE IS THE BEST IN FOOTBALL. Karlos Dansby is an absolute playmaker, tackling machine and field general out there. Right next to him will be our newly acquired inside linebacker Kevin Burnett. Kevin Burnett started all 16 games in San Diego last year which was the #1 defense in the league. He put up 95 tackles, 2 INTS , 2 FF, 6 Sacks and had a touchdown. Last year the phins had Channing Crowder which has no playmaking ability and is only a run stopper. This is a huge upgrade for the dolphins to say the least. On the outside of these guys is pro bowler Cameron Wake who was a defensive player of the year candidate last year. He is an absolute monster and a sack machine. On the other side is Koa Misi who is coming off a very solid rookie year and is looking like a great draft pick. The one thing people say about Koa Misi is that he just does whatever anybody asks him to do no questions asked. Backing him up will be the all time sack leader currently still in the league...Jason Taylor. Another guy that was a rookie year but I only hear good things about is AJ Edds.
This dolphins defense will really find its swagger in the secondary. Vontae Davis and Sean Smith could be the best corner tandem in the league. These guys were rarely targeted when the dolphins were passed on for a reason. Nobody wants to throw these guys way. Not only are they locks but they are scrappy too. Our nickleback should be Will Allen who is coming off an injury that has been bothering him for a couple years now. If healthy he can be a great corner for us this year. Anytime I watch Will Allen play i love the attitude he plays with and I think he is going to play like he has something to prove this year. We also have a couple other great backups in veteran Benny Sapp who is very scrappy and Nolan Carroll who is very athletic and shows alot of upside. Yeremiah Bell will be playing Strong Safety for us and has been doing a good job for years. He is almost like another linebacker out there and is a very solid player. The only position on the defense that is anything close to a weakness is the free safety position. Our free safeties at this point are Chris Clemons and Reshad Jones. In the beginning of the year Clemons was making plays everywhere last year. He was later getting beat up and wasnt very effective but could be a good safety. Reshad Jones is coming into his 2nd year and is known as a ball-hawking safety. He had 1 game last year where he just shined and I think this guy has a ton of upside.
Mike Nolan is a great defensive coordinator and is going to get a head coaching job from this defensive this year. A problem I noticed last year was that our defense was always on the field and if our offense improves how it should then it will reflect on both sides of the ball. I know what defense ill be drafting in fantasy football and im ready to watch that swagger return to south beach.
