The case for ONE PLAYER Nnamdi

I know this seems crazy as we have two pretty to very solid young corners on our team already. However, Nnamdi Asomugha is just hands down so freaking good every time should be paying for his services. If we Calvin Johnson came onto the market right now, should we say well we have marshall and bess maybe we shouldn't go after a 6'5'' receiver who runs a 4.3. No we would absolutely consider signing him. Take a look at these stats.

108 attempted throws. 40 completions. What corner had that incredible stat line... Darrell Revis in 2009 when everyone was calling him possibly the greatest corner ever.

98 attempted throws, 47 completions. What corner had that incredible stat line...  Champ Bailey in 2009.

98 attempted throws, 48 completions. What corner had that incredible statline... Nnamdi asomugha except his is from 2008 to 2010.

Three seasons, just 98 attempts and 48 completions. absolutely rediculous. In 2006 (the last time he was thrown at more than 40, yes 40 times in a season) he had 8 picks. If anyone ever calls him out for not having the ints its because no one ever ever throws to him. You can;t catch balls that are on the other side of the field. When you are a corner who across three seasons get about 2 throws a game, i think you are insanely dominant.

I am huge Vontae fan and still solid on Sean, but cmon. I know he will cost a lot, but it is 100 percent worth it. Imagine a secondary with Vontae across from Nnamdi. We would be so rediculous on defense. Im sorry, I would rather grab him and then have to sign a few less notable guys. We have the cap space (post lockout of course). This is a move we may and probably won't make, but can i get a little support for in my opinion the best corner and possibly defensive player in football today.

Stats dont lie and Nnamdi is great person and leader as well. Make him a dolphin please.

I love Nnamdi and would like him on our team

But I’d be hard pressed to say yes because his contract will be so constricting to whichever team he ends up on. Would you rather have 2 top tier players at their respective positions or 1 Asomugha? That’s a tough call. This is why I refrained from voting. If Asomugha comes down greatly from his price to say $10 million, then sure. If Asomugha will still cost $16 million or more, especially for the next 5-7 years, I’d have to take a long, hard look at the roster and cap situation before I’d ever consider making such a costly investment.

Anyone would love to have him but his cost is going to be through the freaking roof.

Nah

With vontae and Sean developing into what could be one of the nfl’s best CB tandems, I think he is not worth the money and the slowing of the development for guys like carrol and ness. I just hope he doesn’t go to the jests, that would be scary

Its not weather should we or shouldnt we, the question is how much!!! If the price was fair YES, but trust me, the the super agents out there now, The price will be alot!!!

Yes, Just Yes.

This is a good point. Although it’s arguable that WR is still a need for the Dolphins, the same point could be made with just about any position.

When a premier player enters the free agent market, every team must do their due diligence.

Here’s what I would envision, should the Dolphins manage to acquire Nnamdi Asomugha:

Vontae Davis would line up across from Nnamdi, and Sean Smith would essentially become a tight end specialist. He can line up across from guys like Dustin Keller, Jermichael Finley, Anthony Gonzalez, Dallas Clark, Vernon Davis, and the rest of the athletic beasts that have caused Miami so many problems in recent years.

Not to mention, acquiring Asomugha would inject the Dolphins with incredible depth at the corner position:

Davis, Smith, Asomugha, Allen, Carroll. Benny Sapp would be gone, but that’s a pretty damned good cornerback group.

Never

CBs have been extinct in Houston since the Oilers moved to Tennessee.

God

Watch, he’ll go to Houston and Jason Allen will become a premier cornerback. Typical Dolphins…

In any world

Why not? He’s available. Our FO can’t be so arrogant that they would think that they “don’t need” a player of his caliber. If Davis or Smith goes down, we’re suddenly a lot weaker in the secondary. Not to mention, neither of them is an elite cornerback by any means.

We should be looking to have elite players at every position. I could understand why we wouldn’t want to go after an alpha receiver or an elite linebacker, but we should definitely take a look at Nnamdi…

Way too many holes on this team to throw that $ out

If we’re gonna go after any stud in the secondary it would be safety. I think our secondary is young and solid though and the only defensive position i would look at is help at ILB or a pass rusher opposite of Wake at OLB.

It’s not happening

Agree

I would target ROLB Justin Durant from Jax. He is a 24 year old fast beast of a player.

Durant is a 43 OLB, no?

Transition

Doesnt matter. Kid is only 24 with speed. Easy transition for him. Just rush opposite Wake. Simple for a fast LB of his caliber.

by miamimike71 on Jul 6, 2011 9:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Not that simple. He's a ILB in a 34, if he is big enough.\
