Braylon edwards????

The rumors are swirling around that we are "talking" to former jets wide out Braylon Edwards. In my opinion I don't think it would be that big of a pick up. It can send bess to his natural slot position. As long as it doesn't cost that much I'm all 4 it!!!!!!!!!

If he's not too pricy

then it’s a good idea. And I’ll cut you slack since this is your first post and you’ve never even made a comment yet, but this is a Fanshot worthy post. In the top right corner, there’s a little box that says The Phinsider under that, next to “new” it says fanpost and fanshot, click fanshot then figure it out it’s simple.

This move would make sense.

Edwards has chemistry with Henne. He has played in Brian Daboll offense. So he knows the plays in theory. An he is a Michigan alum. Tie those three things together and it makes perfect sense. This is something i dont really endorse. I think we are set at receiver.

is hartline still the 2 wr?

if so i defninitely think MIA should upgrade the position no doubt..

If Edwards wants Holmes money forget it ………. but Edwards would absolutely be a HUGE upgrade over Hartline.

how about a Malcom Floyd or what about Jacoby Jones (HOU) or James Jones (GB) maybe?

we need a guy that can hurt the defense while Marshall is getting doubled.

Bess needs to stay in the slot. He’s not a #2.

by scrappy the wildcat on Jul 30, 2011 5:26 PM EDT up reply actions

if Hartline is the 3 wr on the chart then the position still needs help.

Marshall is an established 1 and bess is great 3/slot.

Edwards would be a HUGE upgrade over Hartline. But I don;t think he’s worth Holmes money.

what about Malcolm Floyd, Jacoby Jones (hou) or James Jones (gb)?? We need someone that can put the hurt on a defense while Marchall is getting doubled.

I really don;t like hartline as the 2.

This could be interesting.

But we’re gonna go from having no #1 receivers to having two. Are we going to pass enough to make both he and Marshall happy? Is he going to stay sober? Is he going to get stabbed by BM’s wife? Is he going to infect the locker room with Rex Ryan’s foot fungi?

These are very pressing matters that must be addressed!

Dan Marino (13) and Steve Nash (13) will go down in history as being the greatest passers to never win the last game of the season.

With Braylon on one side keeping teams honest will free up B Marsh in one on ones. Also Bess can now flourish in the slot.

All I have to say is

How well did the Ochocinco + TO thing work out? horrible, two diva #1 receivers on a team is generally not a good idea, they would fight for targets and when one isnt satisfied they will end up in a cat fight. Id rather just keep they guys we have, our WR core is stacked with young talent and i would rather give them the chance to blossom into the speed option we truly need opposite Marshall, wether it be Hartline, Gates, Moore or the undrafted guy we picked up Livas (sp?) our WR are just one short step towards dominance, that step may just be giving them a little time and development.

by AcolyteofRa on Jul 30, 2011 4:31 PM EDT reply actions

The difference is that TO and Ocho were old men.

I think the youth is a more interesting aspect. But you’re probably right.

Edwards and Holmes were on the Jest, that team is an exception.

Boldin, Mason and TJ have all been good throughout their careers. With the exception of TJ looking to be paid like a #1 in seattle.

Austin is not a diva, Dez is, but they both have a veteran, franchise QB to keep everyone in line.

Totally agree...

We have a good WR core. Edwards would be a luxury pick up IMO. Getting a guard would make our line better, helping our new RB acquisition.

This ^^^^

signing Blalock and Miller would probably make me jump up and dance a little wherever I may be, Shore up our shaky guard spot with one of the best available for it, and then add one hell of a threat TE i’m sold. The best part is we haven’t heard much about either prospect so the chances of them being pick ups is there. GO GET IT DONE IRELAND!

by AcolyteofRa on Jul 30, 2011 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Edwards is a luxury that should be filled when we have filled some of our other holes, or are unable to fill them.

I think a TE/G is still a much more pressing need. A good, solid TE is a young QB’s best friend. I would love to have Miller, but Todd Heap would be a great pick up also.

With a young runningback and a runningback who isn’t exactly much of a tackle breaker, shoring up our line would be more of a priority also.

Bess/Marshall/Hartline/Edwards + an upgraded tackle or TE is better than adding Edwards, especially considering we are still going to be a run first team.

Actually it all depends on what we plan on doing on offense

No need getting 2nd tight end if we are switching to a more spread like offense.

If we go from a two tight end set,to a four or five spread we would end up with a core of:

Marshall,Edwards,Hartline,Bess,Gates.

With Moore,Wallace,Pruitt, and a couple others fighting for a sixth or seventh spot.

And no,this isn’t a “but who’s going to get them the ball” trash Henne posting.

Not to mention the options having 3-4 runningbacks that can catch out of the backfield,a makeshift do it all hybrid TE/RB/FB,and Polite, and Fasano.

This offense would be stacked across the board, which is what I think Ross wants to see,to evaluate the future of our front office and coach.

by dolphinfan4lyfe on Jul 30, 2011 8:33 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

The good things about tight ends like Heap and Miller.

They can be split out and utilized in ways that Fasano simply cannot be used. The one thing our offense has lacked has been explosiveness and creativity.

With that being said, if Edwards would come cheaply (which it doesn’t seem like he is wanting to), sign him. He’s going to want to prove something after the way he has been treated by the Jest.

We could do both if need be.

We’ve spend enough draft picks and money on QB’s that have a slim chance of being the resolution and that needs to stop now.

If Henne fails this year, he might be a good cheap option as a back up or we could just run with Moore.

I’m in the boat of giving Henne another year and then drafting a QB next year if need be.

moore beats out hartline

hartline is average at best. i think moore will beat out hartline and take over the position. meanwhile, the OL sucks, and they to were average at best. we could use a few of the FA to beef up the line or it wont matter who is in the backfield. IMO.

If Hartline is average at best, then Moore is below average

He’s still a better WR than Moore at this point.

He’s a mirror image of BM. Not the talent of Marshall, but the body type. If he could step up his game we’d have 2 6’5" 225+ WR’s.

Not really

Both were UDFAs. I’ve not read anything about either one standing out in TC over the other one. Omar said Moore was “moving faster”, but also said “Wallace could ball and would make a 53 somewhere if not here.” Unless we bring in Edwards, both Moore and Wallace have an equal chance to make the team right now.
