Orton, Palmer, Young, Pryor aren't free agents if I'm not mistaken.
Young will most likely be cut so I guess we could expect him to be a FA.
Considering cost
1. Vince Young (no cost)
2. Kyle Orton (3rd round)
3. Carson Palmer (1st round)
4. Marc Bulger (no cost)
5. Terrelle Pryor (4th round?)
Not Considering cost
1. Carson Palmer
2. Kyle Orton
3. Vince Young
4. Marc Bulger
5. Terrelle Pryor

I honestly agree with you. That is why I see us getting Bulger as a vet back-up in CP10's place

And I do not know how we angle ourselves in to that #1 spot but we have to find a way.

Two things
If we do hold out with Henne and do have a shot at Luck
1.I hope that this office has the balls to grab him or do what it takes to
2.And if we do happen to lets say suck then I hope Ross has the balls to do something about this front office etc. to bring in people who will go out and get the job done.

But guys,
aren’t we talking about sucking titanically to get that pick, or even close to it, there are very few teams that will possibly be picking first next year and NOT want to pick him, and that’s why the Luck pick will be worth 3 1st round picks, he’s that good.
I seriously doubt we have any chance of getting Luck unless we’re the worst team in the league, it will be an untradable pick, and we aren’t the worst team, just sayin.

look I kind of don't know what to think
Im glad you realize that we shouldn’t tank our season for a shot at the top pick, which ive heard people say- and which is COMPLETELY IDIOTIC.
The thing is we’re doing alot of talking and putting alot of trust in a kid who is still a complete year away from being the NFL.
What if he gets hurt? What if has a Jake Locker-like season?
Even if he excels next year he’s still a rookie who hasn’t played a down in the NFL… there is a chance he turns out to not be that good.
But I’ve seen the tape, the chance is slim… If Luck has a good season, whoever has the #1 spot is in A GREAT position… they either get a guy who is a HUGE favorite to become one of the next ELITE QB’s or they get a team like us willing to give up A SHITLOAD.
And I agree uncle, If that’s the case and we haven’t made any significant QB improvements next year, I am totally OK with giving up the entire draft and even a next years 1st for Luck, I get that. It’s about time we got some balls and pick a 1st round QB.. Luck could be the next gem.
I’m just saying there is STILL alot of football to be played and ALOT of question marks still remain, i think its way too premature to start forecasting on the picks we will give up to make Andrew Luck a Dolphin in 2012.

This I totally agree with. While I could see us having 10 wins I can also see us doing much worse. Maybe a top 3-4 pick would somehow, someway allow us to trade up to one. You never know. Also of the season is some how reduced to 8 games like the NFL is now looking at (hope this does not happen) and we pull our usual loss of the first 3 games then we would be for sure in the running for that top pick. Not that I am cheering for us to suck but at least this time there would be a payoff for sucking.

What would you take?
If we had the #1, and we have Luck if we want him, what would you take in trade to let him go elsewhere?
The only chance is if a team with a franchise QB is drafting 1st, which probably wont happen and even then it will be obscenely expensive.
Your wishing for a miracle my friend.

Really? There are a bunch of teams that have picked not
so good QBs in the top 10 thi year before they got better prospects at areas of need. I think the possibilities of a team like CAR (which for two straight years took top rated QBs) to be #1 is good.

If they have a young QB, they might want to actually develop him
instead of wasting years staying at the #1 spot because they fail to upgrade the rest of the team.

If we were to get Orton or Palmer i don't think they would compete with Henne
They would most like get the starting job from the get go (because of cost). Henne is better than Bulger so he would go straight to backup. I don’t even think we would have considered drafting Pryor if he came out during the draft. Vince Young? Nah ill pass.
by PhinsAllDay on Jun 6, 2011 10:45 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
Well.......
Palmer won’t be let go by CB, Pryor no, intruiged by Young but no. If Orton can be had for a 3rd I say yes (not going to happen though), Kolb will cost way too much, that leaves Bulger as the choice. Maybe bring in a young guy like Devlin and/or McElroy (once the Jets cut him, they have too many QB’s). If the Jets end up cutting Kellen Clemens, I would think he and Bulger would provide a lot of Vet leadership behind Henne.
I only have 1 choice.
Vince Young.
2 time Pro Bowler and the only one of the choices that has any chance of beating out Henne.

Collins may be a dinosaur but he still plays at a high level when healthy. You can literally go through his qb rating and pick out what games he was healthy for. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=734

1. Henne
2. Someone old, irrelevant, and/or insignificant who will be cut unceremoniously at the end of the year and never see one snap of regular season game play.
It’s gonna be Henne, like it or not — I really don’t see any of these names as viable candidates. I do not want to waste draft picks on mediocre QBs (because we have one of those already — I don’t care if the name on the back of the jersey is different). Yes, Pennington worked for us one year, but I’d like to see our team try and move forward, not stall by deploying some 1-year-and-out aging QB.
As a Dolphins fan, you have to agree with me at least that you are sick of the continual “stop-gap” solutions we see deployed year and year. All these QBs named are going to be perennial stop-gap solutions to the QB position on any team.
look the last thing i want is a stop gap, and you're probably going to be right anyway
but I don’t understand how you can look at a player like Kyle Orton and look at his stats AND his age and label him in the “old, irrevelant, or stop-gap” category

I'll give you Orton...
…and he is definitely not those things (I mainly listed the kind of QB I’m expecting to get brought in with that “2” category there — I just have a strong feeling we will be seeing Henne play out the 2011-12 year, and without the FO really liking some of the younger guys out there, I expect some unheralded vet to show up and backup Henne).
He is probably the outlier in this debate, but I still don’t think he’s what we ultimately want under center, ya know? I’m also not sure what his cash value is (either literally or figuratively) when it comes to how many wins he buys us over Henne… i.e. are we simply moving up the mediocrity chain a few links with an Orton, or getting a different kind of mediocrity with a Vince Young?
I suppose my main issue is if all we’re trying to do is swap out mid-grade talent for mid-grade talent, then I don’t see as much value there (because I’m a huge fan of what can be done in a draft, so I’m a stingy bastard when it comes to dishing out picks).
I mean im not denying the fact that Orton will either be hard to get or pricey or BOTH
but he is the only FA IMO that is young, proven and has succeeded lately. I feel even at his worse he would be better than Henne. I can’t say that about any other QB.
I do think we should atleast sign SOMEONE however, even if it is a cheap option like Bulger, because healthy competition never hurts and I don’t want to think that Henne is GUARANTEED anything. Another 7-9 season with Henne at the realm is probably the worst thing that could happen, would you agree? Atleast 0-16 would give us a bit of Luck…

Agreed...
…especially on the Bulger front. But the reason I like Bulger is very different from the way he is spoken of by the others who like him around these parts. I don’t think he will be some messiah, or hell, I don’t even think he will ever see the field beyond preseason; however, he is the good and cheap choice to sit on a bench and give Henne some different competition at camp.
So, totally agree that Henne NEEDS some competition at camp — I just think he’ll beat out someone the likes of Bulger (who will serve exactly the role he is expected to — backup QB)… and if not, that’s really bad news for us, yeesh!
atleast until the 2012 Draft that is!

There are different types,
Still relatively young and very talented but haven’t put it all together;
VY, Orton
Older vet looking to recapture better days;
Bulger, Palmer
Rookie project;
Pryor
I think we could use 1 from category 1 and 1 from category 2, no room for category 3.
VY and Bulger would be my choices.

LEt me give this a try:
1) Henne
2) Henne
3) Moore
4) Clausen
5) Luck next draft
Also, to those who think that the person in the #1 overall spot will need a QB, that might not be so. With a lot of QBs taken early in this draft, there is a possibility that the #1 overall pick will be had by a team that has a young QB and just needs to put pieces around him (see Carolina circa 2010). This would mean that team would be very interested in trading down since that will allow them to acquire more pieces.

I imagine that if we bring all of those in, we will have open competition in Camp. Henne will win (i think). If henne doesn’t get it done, we go to Moore. If Moore doesn’t get it done, we go to Clausen. Then we go to the best performing. Then we go for Luck.
Best case scenario, in 2011 one of the QBs on our roster will light it up.
