The best way to formulate what the Front Office will do next is to look at what they have done in past offseason's and find a correlation or a pattern to relate to this years offseason ( if we ever have an offseason). I have several theories on what the Dolphins will do next and I will try to justify this using last offseason.
Last offseason, we had several gapping holes in our team. We had no productive middle linebacker and we had no number 1 wide out. The Dolphins proceeded by breaking the bank with a huge free agency deal for Karlos Dansby and a huge trade for Brandon Marshall and in doing this solidifying two positions for years to come. We then used the draft to add depth to our defense at every level. With several linebackers, defensive ends and secondary help but no defensive tackles. So as an overview to the entire offseason, we addressed our two biggest needs with proven players and added depth behind them through the draft.
This offseason, we still have several gapping holes. Most notably at Quarterback and at Running back. I believe a majority of the splashes that will be made by the Phins in the offseason wouldve been the free agency if it hadnt been for the lockout. I feel we are going to break the bank again to pick up one huge free agent and to make one huge trade. I believe the free agent we pick up will be Deanglo Williams (barring the new CBA obviously) and I believe the dolphins will provide Chad Henne with decent competition through the acquisition of Kyle Orton, as he is not the future of the Broncos and I think he will come much cheaper than expected. With these two moves made, I would feel very comfortable with the direction of the offense.
This said, the front office is conservative when I predict they are flashy and then they are flashy when I predict conservative. They are unpredictable and coy. For better or for worse.
