and he is 10X the QB WildPat will ever be!

while that is true

he’s not all that good. He hasn’t been a top-tier QB since 06, and he’s been a slow but steady decline (with a spike in yardage last year). He’s just not that good anymore. Between the knee and elbow injuries, and his INT total equaling Henne’s for the past 2 seasons (33 total, more than 1 per game), he might be better, but he’s not what we need.

I don’t think it benefits the team to trade for Palmer. We might end up 8-8 instead of 7-9 next year. He’ll be 32 this year, with injuries, so he’s not the long-term answer either. At some point, we have to take a risk in the first round and take a guy with franchise potential and stop finding 1 year caretakers who only set us back.

agreed. Like McNabb

this is like trying to heal a gunshot with a bandaid… shit ain’t gonna be a long term solution..

The only proven QB we could get via trade is make a move for Orton.

Otherwise the draft seems like to be the best logical solution.

not real high on Orton

why is he about to get traded a 2nd time? Do good QB’s get traded by teams who need QB’s? Everybody wants to think they are smarter than the NFL teams and that we can just steal a good QB away from other teams, but there’s a reason why a quality regime in Chicago felt the need to trade 2 1st round picks, and a 3rd, to swap Orton for Cutler. There’s a reason Denver is shopping Orton and not Tebow.

The way I see it, if 2 teams have given him the chance to start multiple seasons and neither thinks he’s a Franchise QB, than he’s probably not a Franchise QB. “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” He’d be an upgrade over Henne, but when we still aren’t a contender and are still struggling to make the playoffs, we’ll be trying to upgrade Orton.

Kinda like Randy Moss in 2010?

well

yeah, except the difference there was Moss was essentially free of charge. I advocated bringing Moss in because we lacked a deep threat and I was thinking, “What’s the worst that could happen? We don’t make the playoffs? We are doing a good job of that without him…”

But yes, when other teams start dumping a guy, there’s a reason. And there was a reason Moss kept getting dumped last year.
