That Wraps it Up

One thing I learned from last years draft is that the Dolphins FO doesn't surprise me anymore. But overall this was a solid draft with pretty solid (safe) picks. My favorite pick of them all was Edmond Gates because now the fastest player on the team isn't a safety.

It's not who we got, it's how we got them

Mike Pouncey I like like Pouncey the player, but I would prefer an impact player with a top-15 pick. Hell, he was drafted higher than his brother Maurkice, and most "experts" would say Maurkice is the better player.

Daniel Thomas Just when I thought the Dolphins were being aggressive and trading up they disappoint again. Once again I like Thomas, but not what it took to get him. Obviously we needed a RB, but for a 3rd, 5th, and 7th round pick I was expecting something serious. Anyway Thomas was a solid pick but we still need a speed back to compliment his style if we want a balanced running game.

Putting it on the line?

Here is the list of teams that went offensive line in round 1.

  1. Cowboys
  2. Dolphins
  3. Patriots
  4. Colts
  5. Eagles
  6. Seahawks
  7. Bears
  8. Packers

With the exception of 3 teams, practically every team that went o-line in the 1st round ranked in the top 10 in total offense last year. In other words these teams had explosive talent at their skill positions. Another thing to point out is that 6 of these teams made the playoffs. So the whole idea that you need to start with a great offensive line in order to have a great offense isn't necessarily true.

When will it stop

The one thing that doesn't excite me about the Thomas pick is the fact that he ran the wildcat in college. And it also looks like Charles Clay was a wildcat guy in college as well. I really hope they don't get any ideas of continuing this nonsense. It was cool at first because we didn't have much offensive talent, but if we plan on having a franchise QB this has to go away.

Playing it safe

Last year there were a few "character" guys that slipped in the draft

  1. Aaron Hernandez
  2. Dez Bryant
  3. Mike Williams
  4. LeGarrette Blount

Needless to say these guys proved to be worth it on the field and look to be future stars in the league. The reason I bring this up is because I still feel like this FO is cool with playing it safe. And by doing the same shit we will keep getting the same results.

I mean look at our own division. Last year while we were busy drafting team captains the Patriots took Aaron Hernandez. The Jets made a trade for Antonio Cromartie and Santonio Holmes. We did trade for Marshall, but  for the most part they haven't taken any risk since they've been here, and that's why this team has yet to take it to the next level.
