Miami Dolphins Top 10 Best Draft Picks: #9 Patrick Surtain

The 9th best Miami Dolphins draft pick of all time is...

Patrick Surtain, who was a 1998 2nd round pick, 44th overall.

Surtain is an all-time favorite of many Dolphin fans. Selected out of Southern Mississippi, he made an instant impact as a rookie, playing in all 16 games and intercepting two passes. Little did we know what was in store for this outstanding corner during his 7 year career in Miami.

Star-divide

Surtain was a three time Pro Bowler and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2002. His 29 career interceptions as a member of the Dolphins places him fifth in team history. And together with teammate Sam Madison, Surtain was part of the best cornerback duo in franchise history.

Some cornerbacks who were selected ahead of Surtain in 1998 include Terry Fair and Artrell Hawkins.

he was the man!!!!

I miss those days… We have a great tandem now that could prove to be even better with time.
On a side not, I really hope Matty chooses to put Lake Long on this list of best draft picks. Dude has done nothing but dominate since his signing. I know a lot of people are upset that we didnt take matt ryan, but oh well. How can we be upset with drafting what has proven to be one of the best left tackles in the game? Matt Ryan has proven to be a good qb, but Jake fulfilled a need and really helped us get to the playoffs his rookie year.

What if he gets injured next year?

You can’t call someone one of the best draft pick in franchise history if he was drafted in ’08 and its ’11

What a sick defense...

Madison and Surtain definitely benefited from a D-line featuring Jason Taylor and Adewale Ogunleye

I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?

Don't forget Bowens

In 2002 we sent 6 players from the defense to the Pro Bowl. T. Bowens, J. Taylor, Z. Thomas, B. Marion, S. Madison and the before mentioned P. Surtain. The crazy thing was Ricky was our only offensive player and he won the MVP. Ogunleye was also so a Pro Bowler.

I wish this defense can come close to that one.

Didnt know Bowens went to the Pro Bowl

He and Larry Chester were good together. Although neither were Huge impact players they did their jobs in keeping Zach Thomas clean of lineman

Just think if for one draft all we did was draft QBs and have them battle it out

To go with our sick defense that could never make it to the playoffs. Great CB and deserves to be on the list.

On the "Draft Titus Young" Bandwagon
Why do people like Ryan Williams more than Leshoure. Leshoure bigger and not as injury prone.

We had the QB but didnt have the RB, then we had the RB and not the QB

The Phins really did waste that defense… :(
