So I just got done watching this show " Path to the Draft" on Sports Center. One of the segments was called "1st round surprise!" It highlighted the top ten mock picks that they were picking. I wasn't going to pay it much attention except for the fact that right as the piece started they had pulled Washington from #10 and had put Miami in some trade up scenario they had conceived where we traded up to #10 to Pull Ryan Mallet ahead of Minnesota picking.
Now im just a fan like alot of everyone else here so my opinion doesnt carry alot of weight. Im just so tired of quarterback constantly being this mystery position year in and year out though. Ever since Dan retired Ive been waiting for that glimmer of hope but its been one painful draft disappointment followed by another free agency fail after another. I have to tell you last year I was blown away we had the *nads to go after Brandon Marshall. I was really excited, and regardless of the Chad Henne debate the fact is I agree we need to find that seriously long term solution at quarterback. Now Ive been watching closely every post these days concerning the draft. I am, as much as I can, doing my homework on these guys. Ive been watching Ryan Mallet really closely and I have to say that of all the guys I see coming in he is the one I hope we do get our hands on. I was a bit surprised to see the announcers giving Miami so much credit to their fortitude that they thought we would actually trade up at this point. But to do it just to take Ryan just reinforced my own opinion that this guy really may have the potential to be our next leading man. He has shown he can do some amazing things consistently with the football. The off field issue arguments are mostly nonsense to me and at this point with everything ive seen and heard I have yet to see anything of any substantial and concrete value. What I have been watching is some seriously tempting game footage and an ability i have yet to see in any dolphins QB post Marino. Mallet very well could fall to us, jumping to 10 or not, and I dont even want to think what we would have to give up Washington to do that. My hopeful draft scenario has us dropping back in the first round and picking up a second. I was hopeful we'd still be able to pick up Mallet and do that. So we'll see. Myself, I only like Kaepernick and Ponder as Alternates. I like Ponder but I dont trust his arm health. Surgery strikes against you even before you start your NFL career spell doom to me.
But regardless I am hopeful this year as every year so good luck to us all. Go Phins!
