JETS WAIVE VERNON GHOLSTON
Any thoughts for argument's sake? Pick him up; have him take Quentin Moses' roster spot. I'm sure Nolan would do wonders with him. I remember all the hoopla when he was coming out. Some mocks had Miami drafting Gholston. What are your opinions?

Just think how stupid the average Jest fan is, and then realize that half of them are even stupider! ( a parody of a George Carlin line)
Jason Taylor had more sacks for the Jets in 1 season (5) than Gholston had in just under 3 seasons (0).
Gholston needs more than Mike Nolan to be effective.
NY Jets = NFL's Chicago Cubs
There's a fine line between hopeful and desperate. Just look @ Jets fans.
we have as many sacks as he does

Its not like he's going to cost that much money
and it would be hilarious if he became half decent with us.
Even if he only gets one sack the look on the faces’ of jets fans would be worth it.
Dan Henning is the sole reason the dolphins aren't a Superbowl Caliber team.

If rex ryan
can’t make Gholston respectable, i doubt our coaching staff can.

Great point.

If Gholston wants to resurrect his career, he needs to go to a 4-3 team
He is not and never has been a 3-4 OLB. We do not need to waste a roster spot on a guy who will at best, be a situational pass rusher.

you know we did do that on a guy.. what was his name... oh yeah cam wake..
I’m not saying he is gonna become half what wake is.. but he is a situational pass rusher.. put him on the other side of wake or the inside linebacker spot on wakes side and become a dominant left/right side team.. pass rushing type wise..

One HUGE difference
Wake had proven his pass rush ability in the CFL. Yeah, its not the NFL, but he showed that he had some potential. Gholston had shown NOTHING at the NFL level. He played for Rex Ryan who is one of the better defensive minds in the NFL and LOVES to blitz and rush the passer. Gholston did not produce in a great defense that could have utilized his “ability” to rush the passer.
Gholston is a colossal bust. He couldn’t excel on a team engineered to showcase the type of talent he should possess, but doesn’t. Like Davone_is_Besst suggested above, if Gholston can’t have success on a Rex-Ryan led defense, then he probably isn’t going to anywhere. I would rather use that roster spot on an UDFA to develop or another CFL standout rather than waste it on a guy who has proven he can’t play in the NFL.

yeah your right..
I would rather pick up an undrafted free agent who could become a gem than waste a few million a year in a fu*k up like gholston…

lets sign him
and get information on the jets defense. Wait…… he’s probably still trying to figure out the x’s and o’s of that defense. He is useless to us

It isn't anything to be excited about
but a roster spot
to troll the jets
would so be worth it
especially if he does anything.

Depends on who he would replace.
Moses has shown flashes albeit against inferior teams. If Nolan and Cox could help him develop a pass rush repertoire, he could be great.

I JUST THOUGHT HE WOULD BE INEXPENSIVE FOR US
I’m sure he has “hidden potential” that just has not been tapped. It’s hard to believe that a player could be wonderful in college and then suck in the pros but I do understand the level of play – so that I get.
I just believe that when there is a player like this, he needs a change of scenery. To bring him in for one year will not hurt.
As far as Moses, he’s been “showing flashes” for years now. I just don’t understand why Sparano is keeping him. Players usually go quicker than this – look at Grove, Donald Thomas – they showed “flashes” and most of it was good play. Am I wrong with this thought?
He wasn't wonderful in college, really, just did great at the combine.

He did fine, but what made him a first rounder was those measureables. He was a 100% raw prospect coming into the NFL

Ill be honest,he wouldnt have anywhere to play.
Misi is going to do fine in his second year,if anything,Edds will have an opportunity to oust CC outta his starting spot,I’m interested to see what he can do. Our defense is young, with a lot of untapped talent that we didn’t get a chance to see due to injury.
The more and more I think about this, the more I’m psyched, and the more I’m psyched. We have a young solid core foundation to build upon and I think our pass rush help was already adressed last year and this with the addition of Cox as pass rush coach.
As long as our secondary spends this offseason on the juggs machine we could jump to a top 3 defense this year
