My Very First Mock Draft

I’ve been watching football for quite some time but despite how much I love the draft, I’ve never taken the time to do a mock draft. This mock draft will include what the team will do and what the team should do. There is a difference between the two. Now, without further ado, here is my first top 10 mock draft which includes my take on the Dolphins’ 15th pick:

1.       With the first pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Carolina Panthers will  select:

Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri.

Rivera is a new head coach and with a new head coach comes a new team. He will want his own QB to groom or play and decide whether or not he will keep the Panther head coach job after year 2. QB is also a glaring need for the Panthers.

With the first pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Carolina Panthers should select:

Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama

Carolina’s defense needs help, bad! Their D line has been pushed around easily ever since Julius Peppers departed. They need to build up their defense and around Jon Beason. Dareus is a DT that is not only a safe pick, but he’ll eat up blocks, allowing Beason and other players to make plays, thus making an impact and making the defense better.

Overall, both players will improve a team that has a lot of needs.

2.       With the second pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Denver Broncos will select:

Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama

The Broncos are definitely a team that needs help at the D line. It is also a very safe pick. It seems like Tebow could one day develop into a franchise QB. The Broncos will give him that chance and shore up on defense.

With the second pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Denver Broncos should select:

Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

Bailey is a great corner, but he’s up there in age and could use some help. The whole defense could use some help at CB. Peterson is a solid and worthy pick at this moment and would help the Broncos.

Overall, both picks are safe and solid and I firmly believe the Broncos will go defense with this pick.

3.       With the third pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Buffalo Bills will select:

A.J. Green, WR, Georgia

The Bills absolutely need a steady receiver opposite of Evans. Green will provide that and then some.  Newton is too much of a risk at this pick and I believe the Bills will go WR.

With the third pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Buffalo Bills should select:

Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn

The Bills have needs everywhere, but one way to make a team’s defense better everywhere is to get a caliber DT. This is  a safe pick and will give QBs like Tom Brady and Mark Sanchez heck not from their right or left, but from the front.

Overall, I do believe the Bills will skip over Cam Newton because of the risks and will not get a QB with this pick because no QB other than Gabbert is worth this pick. In fact, the Bills may just trade down.

4.       With the fourth pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Cincinnati Bengals will select:

Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

CB Leon Hall is steady, but Joseph has been going through injuries. The Bengals will look to address the need at CB or at least add depth.

With the fourth pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Cincinnati Bengals should select:

A.J. Green, WR, Geogia

Owens and Ochocinco are old. If A.J. Green would make a good replacement. He is a big play receiver and would add to their weapons.

Overall, both players will help the Bengals out.

5.       With the fifth pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Arizona Cardinals will select:

Von Miller, LB, Texas A&M

The Cardinals need a playmaking LB like Dansby and this guy fits the mold. He will replace Dansby quite well.

With the fifth pick in the 2011 NFL draft,  the Arizona Cardinals should select:

Cam Newton, QB, Auburn

This is a bit of a risky pick, but the Cardinals need a QB bad. Mallet, though talented, is not worth the 5th overall pick, but Newton MAY be worth it. Also, I feel like the Cardinals better fit Newton than the Bills.

Overall, Von Miller would be the safest pick for this team.

I will include the next 5 picks and what my take on the Dolphins 15th pick will and should be next time.
