There are only 10 players still on the roster before this regime took over. But it didn't start here, it started with Cam Cameron. He traded our leading receiver Wes Welker to a division rival. He also traded our best receiver to K.C.,cut our starting TE Randy McMicheals. Just think what this regime could've done with some of that talent. They replaced them with Greg Camarillo,.Ted Ginn and David Martin. Who are no longer on the team. Ted Ginn got traded for a 5th round pick( there goes your speed receiver and return man). I didn't like this trade much. I thought he should've been given more time to develop. He deserved it just for beating the Jest the second game almost single handedly. Didn't mind the Camarillo trade that much, but we sure could've used him when BM got hurt. By the end of the year Sapp looked like he was a good trade for Cam. I didn't understand why they let Martin go. He could've been our second TE.
This season we cut Jason Allen our opening day starter at CB. We also put Will Allen on IR and from what I've read he won't be back. That leaves us with John Denney(pro-bowler this year),Y.Bell a pro-bowler last year.B.Feilds soon to be pro-bowler if he continues to play like he did this year,P.Cobbs a coaches favorite,P.Soliai a solid starter,V.Carey over paid under productive starter,C.Crower a often injured starter, but the defense seems to play well when he starts,Q.Moses solid backup,R.Williams and R.Brown both former pro-bowlers and both are free agents. With maybe only one of them coming back.
This year it could be more. We could lose Soliai to free agency, but I hope not. Could cut Carey and save some money, loss both Ricky and Ronnie, cut Moses for an upgrade and maybe offer Bell and Crowder in a trade package while they still have some value. That leaves Cobbs, as stated before a coaches favorite,Denney and Feilds both under contract and in the top 5 at their position.
I don't agree with every move this regime makes, but they put together a damn good defense. That should only get better with time.Using the draft V.Davis,S.Smith,K.Landford,K.Misi,C..Clemons and free agrency R.Starks,C.Wake,K.Danbys and T.McDaniels. On offense I like the B.Mashall trade and getting Bess as a free agent was priceless.. Hartline was also a good pick. he has potential. All in all a decent receiver corps.
Wasn't it B.Parcells who said if you want me to cook the meal I should at least shop for the groceries. So far like I what they're cooking. This is only they're third year and with all the changes they need a chance to get familiar with one another. We could be eating out of a bowl soon. A super one.
