excellent move

making that 3 good corners on our roster, along with an average benny sapp

Benny Sapp is terrible.

He needs to be cut and Al Harris should be re-signed.

I would be onboard

with that, Davis, Smith, Allen, Caroll & Harris would be a pretty decent group of CB and a good mixture of youth and vets.

i mean i doubt we keep 6 corners....

and we should’t draft one so Sapp might be the odd man out even though he played decent… that would suck because that would mean we pretty much dropped Camarillo for no reason

Even at the time I wished we got a draft pick for him instead

Even a 5th rounder, considering the players we got in the 5th the last 2 drafts it may just turn out to be a very good player!

Not only that,

but Minnesota didn’t use Camarillo much at all, even while Sidney Rice was injured and Percy Harvin was running the wrong routes. Just another fuck up by Childress IMO. Camarillo was exactly what that passing game needed, a polished route runner that could catch anything thrown his way.

thats true Joel but i think Chilly isn't the only one to blame,

Favre had his worst year as a QB and never really seemed like he had the magic

good route runner, smart, amazingly soft hands and physical.

He wasnt the same receiver at all after his injury. I am happy though to see him having success in Minnasotta, hes a hard worker and he deserves it.

You can't expect him to be fully recovered from a late

season ACL tear the very next season. I bet he’s fully recovered by now.

And yeah, he is an overachiever through and through. He’ll make it in this league a few more years at least.

by joel311 on Feb 11, 2011 11:49 AM EST up reply actions

No prob

yeah, they even have some stuff sometimes that Stats LLC doesnt. So, back to my arguement, here is how it breaks down:

2008:
Cammy – 8, 1st down conversion catches on 3rd down
Bess- 24, 1st down conversion catches on 3rd down

2009:
Cammy – 30, 1st down conversion catches on 3rd down
Bess- 56, 1st down conversion catches on 3rd down

2010:
Cammy 10, 1st down conversion catches on 3rd down
Bess
42, 1st down conversion catches on 3rd down

Now you might argue that he was the man before Bess arrived in 08, so in 2007 Cammy caught 8 1st down conversion catches on 3rd down.

So you see where I am coming from here? Bess is the king of that category. In fact, if you combined Cammy’s 07,08, 09 and 2010 seasons it only exactly equals Bess’ 09 amount. I think I made my point.

WA is coning off of two season ending injuries. Harris is a better vet IMO.

I disagree i actually think Benny Sapp is pretty good.

I think he progressed through 2010 alot, he isnt a perfect player, but for a nickel corner i have no real physical knocks on him, they are all fundamental. I think as a whole, when you look at his body of work in 2010 he had a pretty good season.

The Good: We will have a competent nickel CB this season (Barring injury)

The Bad: We still have Sapp
The Ugly: WHY THE HELL was Allen put on IR last year when he could have returned during the season had he been put on the PuP list?
The Optimistic: Maybe Ireland is learning to hold on to talent that can help the team.

people rip on Benny Sapp

because of a few big plays he gave up, mostly mind you were in man on man coverage, but as a whole i think he is alot better than people give him credit for. i am not displeased with that trade at all. Benny Sapp is almost the same player as Nate Jones and performs the same role as he used to. I dont prefer Nate Jones.

Carrol and Harris were better corners last year. That means

that he was really the Dime guy when we got Harris (Carrol didn’t get a lot of snaps) and with WA coming back that means he’s our fifth CB and I would rather keep a young guy like Ness over a vet at that position.

this is surprising...

i was for sure he would be one of the contracts we would let go. This is good news as long as he’s healthy though, he’ll be the best nickel we’d have and still have Carroll, Harris and Sapp (though one of those might not make the cut next year)

Sapp

I’d keep Sapp. It looked like he started to pick up the system the more he played. With a full off season he could be solid depth. Oh and when did Carroll get into ATM’s.Lol. just playing I know you was saying AT THE MOMENT. right?

by NawlinsPhinPhan on Feb 10, 2011 1:54 PM EST up reply actions

Al Harris, Carroll, and Allen are already solid depth.

Why would you keep a project for depth? If you think Harris is going to walk that’s one thing, but there is no way Sapp is worth keeping over any of the 3 aforementioned CBs.

Cam Crush?

Hey I liked Cam too, but he was expendable. He’s was our 4th receiver at best. We needed a corner, they needed a receiver we made the trade.IMO we came out the winner. Sapp did way more for us then Cam for the Vikings. His gone. So is Harris and I doubt we bring his old @ss back.

My Bad

I thought you bought Cam up. It was BSeriuos, but you sure was defending him. I thought you disliked Sapp, because of the trade. We only signed Harris for veteran leadership. Getting Allen cancels out Harris. His services are no longer needed. He’s 36 years old and coming off major knee surgery, before signing with Dolphins. What did he last three weeks before we put him on IR for a hamstring pull. Now he’d be an excellent DB’s coach and that’s about it. I never said Sapp was great, but I’d that him over Harris. And buy the way he has the best hands on the team. Not saying that’s a good thing, but he double the INT’s of any the defenders on the roster at the end of the season. And he only had 2. What civwarbuf said sums it up.

I disagree i actually think Benny Sapp is pretty good.
