Jake Long will be a fin for life
To my fellow Phinsider followers, will some of you please stop the rumors of Jake Long being traded??!?? He is not and will not go anywhere. He was our first overall pick out of 256 collegiate players in the 2008 NFL draft. In 4 years he has 4 pro bowls appearances and 2 all pro selections and could be headed to a 3rd. He is the best player this franchise has had since Dan Marino and Ricky Williams.
Its not worth giving up a hall of fame left tackle for an unproven QB, alright??!? If you give up unprovern players in the form picks for the right to move up and select an unproven QB you can add solid/decent NFL talent but never a proven hall of famer. Listen guys we are going to get our qb alright and were not going to have to give up our superstar left tackle. We simply can't afford to.
What did Couch, Carr, Smith and so many other great college QB's not have when they came out? An OFFENSIVE LINE/LEFT TACKLE! Jake long is going to be a Phin for 8-10 more years and he will be the highest paid left tackle in football by the end of 2012. Thank you and please stop these dumb "trade long scenarios" its not gonna happen, but tthats just me i wonder how you guys feel, let me know in the poll below.

Well look at it this way...
If Ireland was able to secure a deal where he trades Long, but doesn’t trade our first rounder this year (yes, it’s possible), and we were able to draft a top QB AND get a good LT prospect like Martin or Reiff, wouldn’t you have to make that deal?

maybe
if that were the scenario, but i doubt it lol. none of those guys can breathe the air long breathes.

Who says those guys can't be as good if not better than Long?
The question is whether or not we can trade Long without including our 1st rounder. I think it’s possible, because of how good Long is. But the demand will drive up the price for the pick. However trading Long and the 1st rounder is too much. Long, 2nd, and 5th would be more than enough. The other team might ask for more, but we won’t give it to them.

but if we just take a LT with the pick then why not trade it anyways lol
If we are gonna take a LT with the pick then just stick with our already proven guy…
There's something in this room that makes you can't speak well.
because we also need a QB
In my scenario, we get a QB and a LT. If we stay put, we just get a RT or something else.

No if you just trade our first round pick for their first (obviously we give more up) we then have a LT and QB
we just have an already proven LT… your logic doesnt really make much sense. We would end up with RG3 and Long or RG3 and Martin…

RG3 and Martin with your scenario or RG3 and Long with mine

Oh... gotcha. If we could get the pick without trading Long, that would be great

kalil might be as good as long not the other 2
they say martin cant be a lt but would be an amazing rt and i see rieff as solder 2.0 with better upside, but i guess long and a 2nd.5th would be enough but idk man i really wanna keep my franchise lt and have a frnachise qb, i would give up 3 #1’s and 2 #2’s for luck and our first three picks this year and a player for rg3 but not long.

I don't think they have to be as good as Long though
If they are good enough, and we have a top QB, we’ll still be in good shape. I’m not saying I want to trade Long, but if we did, and the circumstances were right, we’d still be alright.

If it was a good deal, where we didnt lose to much then I would

Apart from anything else,
considerations about getting a QB etc. in the week when Jason Taylor retires, the value of holding on to your best players, and the value of having players who are not just good players, but first and foremost Dolphins, is surely clear. I, for one, want players we acquire in the draft, who have the talent of Jake Long to remain and retire as Dolphins.
I agree. There are other ways to trade up without trading off parts of the base that you have already built.
I get the argument that QB is the most important piece on most teams and we desperately need one but why take one step forward while taking one back when there are so many other possibilities to make a trade work?

Jake Long is not a hall of famer.
I’m sorry but I have seen this career before, anybody remember Tony Boselli. A Behemoth right tackle with more talent than Long that simply couldn’t stay healthy. Furthermore, to enshrine Long into the hall of fame four years into a his career is ridiculously premature. The man has only been to one playoff game and has been part of three losing seasons out of four. Left Takles do not make the Hall of Fame if they are not protecting a winning QB. They also dont make the hall of fame if they cant stay on the field. I trade a left takle for a potential franchise QB everyday and twice on sunday. I love Jake Long, but no Left Tackle is more important than even the potential of a franchise QB.
He is headed it that direction. You make it sound as if his injurys this year somehow predict what will come.

Tell that to Walter Jones.
I’d venture to say he was more important to the Seahawks than Hasselbeck and felt by many as the best LT of all time. Not that I don’t want to draft a QB, but I don’t think I’d be in favor of trading Long unless it was JUST Long and swapping picks. All that being said, Long is still a Long way from touching Jones’ career.
I hate Seattle weather.
NO NO NO
Matt Hasselback was more important to that team than Walter Jones, Walter Jones never won anything without a QB. QB is more important than LT, period. who was Aaron Rodgers LT last year, Brees LT two years ago, Manning LT when he won in miami, Rothlesbergers LT when he won his first Super Bowl. Eli Manning LT the year they beat the Brady Juggernauts, Marinos LT when he set the single season passing yardage record (it wasn’t Richmond Webb). NONE of these LT are Hall of Famers, and most cant even be named. WALTER JONES, what the hell has he won?? NOTHING

that being said
we might be able to get a franchise QB in free agency… did anyone see Matt Flynn today?? he is an Unrestricted FA and they won’t be able to tag him. That guy will be starting somewhere next year.
Here it comes. One great start and all of a sudden hes the next big thing.

He is the second coming of Jesus.
Only this time he is and undersized Quarterback drafted in the 7th round.
