Miami Drafting Order

The purpose of the first part of this post is simple, to find the possible draft standings of the Miami Dolphins at the end of the Season.

There are a few teams between of us and the #1 overall selection. I will go through each one, giving their record and the next and final opponent they will have this season.

#1: The Indianapolis Colts

Record: 2-13

Next opponent : Jaguars

Of Note: The Colts have the easiest strength of schedule, with an SOS of .547, followed by the Rams (.566) and Vikings (.587) [per espn.com]. If the Vikings lose and the Rams and Colts win, the Vikings will have the #1 overall draft pick.

#2: St. Louis Rams

Record: 2-13

Next Opponent: 49ers

Of Note: If the Colts win and the Rams lose, St. Louis will have the number one overall pick.

#3: Minnesota Vikings

Record: 3-12

Next Opponent: Chicago Bears

Of Note: If the Vikings lose and the Rams and Colts win, The Vikings will have the number one overall pick.

#4: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Record: 4-11

Next Opponent: Atlanta Falcons

Of Note: A win against the Falcons and a win for the Steelers and Colts means that the Bucs will pick 6th. A win for the Bucs and a win for the Jets mean that the Bucs pick 6th.

#5: Jacksonville Jaguars

Record: 4-11

Next Opponent: Indianapolis Colts

Of Note: See above. A win for Jacksonville and a win for the Jets mean that the Jaguars pick 7th.

#6: Cleveland Browns

Record: 4-11

Next Opponent: Pittsburgh Steelers

Of Note: Nothing

#7: Washington Redskins

Record: 5-10

Next Opponent: Eagles

Of Note: Can move down with a loss and a win for the Jets.

#8: Miami Dolphins

Record: 5-10

Next Opponent: New York Jets

Of Note: Can't be any lower than we are, but can move up with a loss against the Jets and a win for the Jags and/ or Redskins.

What Miami needs to do in order to grab a true blue chip QB draftee

The only teams ahead of us that needs a young QB are Indy and the Redskins. The Rams will most likely stick with Bradford for another season unless a new FO comes in. The Vikings have a rookie QB in Ponder. The Bucs have a franchise QB in Freeman. The Jaguars have a rookie QB in Gabbert. The Browns have a young, promising QB in McCoy.

The only team that may give us trouble is the Redskins, right in front of us. The redskins should be drafting a QB this year, but with Snyder, it is impossible to tell. What we need to do is jump the Redskins and it shouldn't be that costly if we have a trading partner.
