Moore makes me a believer
It’s plain and simple if the QB is under pressure he will not have a good day. Saturday, Tom Brady... as elite a QB as you’re going to find was flustered all first half and lead his team to ZERO points. This was the most explosive offense in the AFC (at least in my mind). With elite receiving weapons at TE and WR he failed to score any points. So why do I mention that?
Because Matt Moore was able to move his group up and down the field for 17 first half points. He was also able to rally his offense in the fourth quarter to score when he needed to. They even tried to pressure him on that last drive and he did what great quarterbacks do…. He made the pay with a deep throw to Marshall. Then a few plays later he perfectly placed one in the end zone for Bess. He has all the throws, he has touch, he can find the open receivers, he can move in the pocket and best of all he can make big plays. Big CHUNK plays.
He ended the night with just a couple of errors. Fumbled snap that in my opinion was the center snapping too early. A fumble that in my opinions was caused by Colombo releasing his man to the inside instead of the expected outside. An interception which was untimely and might have cost us points.
You remove those 3 plays and this might be a Dolphin victory and everyone is raving about how Moore is the future. I am changing my position from draft a QB at all cost to if one falls to us take it but don’t sell the farm to replace a position that Matt Moore has taken care off. I can’t imagine any rookie QB playing as well as Moore.

Dolphins have allowed
From sun sentinel
“The Dolphins allowed five sacks in Saturday’s 27-24 loss to New England, which brings the season total to 51 sacks in 15 games. With three more sacks, this year’s team would break the 1969 Dolphins record for most sacks allowed in a season (53).”
Even under this pressure Moore was still able to go 17-33 for 294 yards and 3 TD and 1 int.

Most of that pressure came from blitzing and 3 of those sacks could have been avoided
with better pocket presence/awareness/feel/whatever from Moore.

I'm allowed to change my mind
Those passes on Saturday were ELITE. The way he dropped that one into Bess on the last drive. And hitting Marshall when they tried to blitz him.
That’s ELITE QB play.
i dont completely disagree with the Moore love,
but to me, he is not clutch enough. He makes very bad mistakes at very bad times. He under throws his recievers regularly. He takes sacks like a rookie. If he would learn to hit his receivers in stride, we would be scoring points all over the place. Also, if he learned to throw the ball away instead of taking terrible terrible sacks, we would not have so many 3rd and longs. I like Moore, but I dont think that he is a long term solution. I hope that i am wrong, but i have very little confidence in him.

you're not watching the same game as me
It sounds like you’re describing Chad Henne.
Keep in mind that we have the 4th worst offensive line and he has limited his interceptions to 7 for the year. While constantly pushing the ball down field.
No he’s not Brady but Brady also has 12 years under his belt.
so moore doesnt take sacks?
doesnt underthrow his receivers? He makes some good passes and he is a top of the line back up QB. I like the guy, just dont believe in him.

I never saw that from Henne
Or any other QB.
Yeah,
he threw one int. Bad passes happen. Brady threw several balls at his receivers feet. The thing is, both Moore and Brady bounced back from those bad passes with beautiful passes. Moore also had several beautiful deep balls in this game and pretty much every game in the last 6-7 weeks.
Next week, you might change your mind when you see him pick apart an elite secondary.

Moore hits perfect deep balls on the regular.
You are focusing on the few bad plays and not seeing all the great plays he makes.
Those fumbles were costly, but our offensive line fell apart in the 2nd half. He had zero protection for the first 75% of the 2nd half including an early snap by Pouncey to straight up ruin our chances.
And those 3rd and longs you speak of are a result of running on first down EVERY TIME. Where the fuck are the PA passes on first down Daboll!?

Joel, why you should look at Yards after the catch to see who the elite Qbs are.
when a QB leads their reciever just right, it is big yards. Moore hits our receivers for big plays, but seldom do they result in much yards after the catch.

I'll agree with that statistic,
but if you look at Marshall’s drops, they are usually in front of him. If he isn’t in the red zone, he is dropping it because he looks up field too early.
Hartline also blows that YAC statistic out because he turns around to catch passes and falls on his ass rather than catching them over his back shoulder. He did it with Henne too. It’s just a nuance of his game that you have to expect.
More of Moore in 2012!
'Phins phor Liphe!
i see your point joel
To me, Hartline makes catches on balls that are uncatchable to most receivers hence the magician nickname. I dont know, I just see guys like eli, brees, rodgers, rothelsburger, brady, vick and others throwing these bombs downfield and the receiver catching in stride and turning a 30 yard or 40 yard gain into a 70 yard td. I feel like if we were able to make good on more of these deep throws, our redzone offense wouldnt be so devastating to our offense.

I feel like we are seeing different things.
I, personally, see him lead the receiver perfectly. I see him squeeze throws in between two defenders where only the receiver has a chance to make a play on the ball.
As for Hartline, some of his grabs are GREAT. I am one of the few Hartline lovers on here, but I believe he makes catches more difficult on himself quite often. Watch the next time he turns around to catch a ball. If you can rewind it, look at the trajectory of the ball and ask yourself “was that a perfect back shoulder throw?” He just prefers to have his chest facing the ball when he makes a catch IMO.

You don't need to run after the catch in the end zone.
Hence, this argument does not pertain to end zone. It pertains to Hartlines sideline grabs.
Try again.

Then isn't that on the QB
For throwing back shoulder when there is the possibility for YAC? Or are we finding a way to blame Hartline for catching an inaccurate pass? I’m not sure what you are saying, but a back shoulder throw is designed to completely turn the WR around, so saying Hartline is at fault for not having a pinwheel for a spine is kinda dumb.

If he's running up the sideline,
with the defender on the inside or running a corner with the defender on the inside, the back shoulder throw is the only throw the defender can’t make a play on.
You are a coach. You know this. If he has a lead on the defender, he can continue on unhindered with the well-placed pass, but Hartline instead chooses to turn completely around and jump backwards so the pass hits him dead in the chest rather than over the shoulder.
More of Moore in 2012!
'Phins phor Liphe!
yeah I have no idea what you're talking about
you are describing something completely different than a back-shoulder throw. You are describing leading a guy up the field. “Throwing the WR open.” When the WR has the CB beat and has outside position, the throw is deep and high, so the WR can run under it. The back shoulder throw is made when the defender is not beat, and is in great inside position.
On back shoulder throws, Hartline does a very good job of twisting his body around and making the catch. On deep throws, he also does a good job of judging the ball and making sure he catches it reaching away from his body to keep it away from the CB. Not sure what you’re watching.

Well
Hartline made some nice catches this year but you may be exaggerating with the whole “he catches balls that are uncatchable to most guys”
And as far as the whole 70 yard TD plays, our top 3 receivers are more of the possession type. Gates has the speed to do so but he hasn’t really seen the field, so I don’t really know what to expect as a wr.
Also if you look at the weapons Eli, Brees, Rodgers, Ben, and Vick have it will make sense why they break off so many big plays. Yes they are great QBs but they also have talented weapons.
And last but not least Matt Moore is NOT the future
Ted Ginn. That is all

Especially in a crucial moment in the game. Moore is not the answer, the only reason he is doing this well is because we can run the ball and our D is playing like they should.

New England is the worst defense yards-wise,
but they are in the top half points-wise. It’s a bend-don’t-break defense.
If you are going to say Moore had an ok performance, then you have to say Brady had a similar performance. And if you use it as an excuse why Moore can’t be a franchise QB, then you have to use the same logic for Brady.

Because I saw Moore hit Hartline twice deep and Marshall deep once or twice.
Hartline falls everytime he catches the ball.
That’s him, not Moore.
The fumbles were a bad snap and Columbo letting a guy get by him as usual. If we swapped O-Lines with New England once Long went down, we’d have won the game.

Henne threw for 400 yards against The Patriots,
yet only put up 24 points, the same as Moore throwing for 300. Moore is more efficient, more accurate, has bigger balls, doesn’t stare down his receivers, has excellent touch and, most importantly, doesn’t melt to pressure in the 4th Quarter.

The rest of them were not his fault. Even if he did take 2 or 3 sacks he MOORE than makes up for it with the 5-6 20+ yard plays a game.
Henne took sacks that weren't his fault too.
Bad O-Lines will do that.

The problem is Henne hardly ever made big plays
Moore is making tons of big plays with the same team as Henne. I would argue that the running game is improved because of Moore. All those big plays on offense gets those safeties out of the box and allows the running game to improve.
the running game improved because of moore?
That is a stupid thing to say….WE STARTED RUNNING LATER IN THE YEAR DUE TO THE LOCKOUT. IT TOOK US TIME TO GEL. Did you genius’s know that Henne was the 8th rated QB right before he got hurt. Moore is the 11th rated QB and thats with the whole year under his belt. Henne was thrown into the fire with a few weeks of practice and looked completely different this year than he ever did. If henne didn’t get injured he would have better stats than Moore.

Look up the stats
Yeah we weren’t winning, our D was terrible and our run game was non existent, but yet Henne was rated 8 QB in the league. Moore has our running game and defense performing the best it has in a while and he is rated 11. Dont get me wrong, 11 is good but if we had no run game or d he would be having a bad year and likely gone or riding the bench.
Ok you want to go by stats
first four games Henne 57.1 comp% Moore 61.7
Henne 868 yrds Moore 783
Henne 4 td’s 4 ints…Moore 4/3
Henne 79.0 rating Moore 85.1
Not that much of a difference but Henne was not thrown under the bus he had 3 years to prove himself and yes I would say he shown SOME improvement not a giant step like some might say because he still went back to his old ways from time to time but rated 8th in the league with these stats sheesh looks like the other 24 QB’s must have had a really tough first four weeks

I see 4td/4ints for Moore thru 5 games
Moore came in on Miami’s 2nd possession in the SD game and had 27att, 0td, 1int.
If you’re gonna throw away Moore’s pick, then you could throw away 3 of Henne’s which came on desperation heaves.

I hear ya, man.
I wanted to see what he could do this year as well. Moore has filled in admirably, though. Either way, you nailed it right on the head: “Not that much of a difference”
It’s time to draft a QB, let em’ battle it out in camp. Then we can argue about which QB is gonna lead us to 12+ wins every year, instead of which guy’s 1:1 TD/int ratio is better. :)
I hate Seattle weather.
He CAME OFF THE BENCH.
Do you understand how shitty a situation that is??
He never got first team snaps during practice, Henne did!
And Henne has NEVER come close to a 9 game string of 14 TDs:3 INTs. Not.even.close.
Henne does not even belong in the conversation.

Either does Matt Moore.....
He’s not elite, you can post what ever skewed stats you want. He came off the bench in the NFL. This isn’t some nerdy high school kid who just joined the varsity team. He is a professional NFL QB. His job was to COME OFF THE BENCH. What’s so shitty about that? Do you not think he was excited to get out there?
That’s a fantastic td / int (14 / 3) ratio FOR A 5 or 6 game stretch. The REAL numbers say 15 td / 7ints over 11.8 games (since he didn’t start.! Let’s not forget about the 14 fumbles (6 lost) since we all love stats so much. One could argue a lost fumble is worse than an INT due to field positioning.
He is just as prone to giving the ball to the other team as Henne has been in the past. He’s no better, no worse. We need a QB of the future.
I hate Seattle weather.

LOL,
ridiculous. Henne never had to start with limited reps. Matt Moore’s QB rating is 99+ in his starts since The Jets game. It’s still much higher than Henne’s including The Jets game.
That QBR season total takes into account Moore coming off the bench and then having his first start. You gotta play live to get a real feel for the offense. Interesting how Matt Moore led the entire league in QBR in Weeks 9 and 11, don’t you think? Typical statistics.

I wanted to see him drive down the fied for a winning TD. Well it was not a winning TD but it was in the last 3 minutes. The interception he threw was poorly timed since we NEEDED that drive to score something to take the fire out of the other team. But we need to realize he is not much more that rookie… Cam newton has almost as many starts as he does ( I think he had 9 starts comming into this season).
I’m sorry if I was aggressive.

I guess the thing that impresses me the most
Has been is throw selection. Sometimes he zips it in there and sometimes he thows it high and to the sideline for hartline to turn around and grab it. sometimes he drops it over the defenders head so that Bess can make a great catch in the end zone.
Lastly he has touch on the screens. I wish we ran more screens and dump offs to Bush.
that bess pass and catch was a thing of beauty

That’s why we see Thomas on 3rd down. for the longest time I could not figure out why Bush would come out on 3rd down. It’s because of Colombo!!!!! either Fasano or a RB have to stay and help him.

Who's to say Henne wouldn't have posted the same improvement.
If you compare their stats through their 1st 3 or 4 games they started (only 4 attempts for Henne in the 4th start) the numbers say Henne was better. I’ve been impressed with what Moore has done, but let’s not kid ourselves. This was a first year in a new system for both of them. Henne is younger, has one less year in the league, and has basically the same or better career numbers. If the O-line, running game, and OC improvement doesn’t stick out to you as the biggest factors for the team’s improvement, you’re gonna be in for a nasty surprise next season when we have no backup plan for Matt Moore.
I hate Seattle weather.
There is NO WAY Henne will be on this team next year
I don’t agree with you about Henne but it really doesn’t matter since he is done with the Dolphins.
Yeah, you're probably right about that.
If we don’t draft a QB, I could see him being retained at a bargain price, though.
I hate Seattle weather.
I don't see him wanting to stay
He will want fresh start. And he should get 3+ million a year to be a backup. Can’t feel sorry for him :)
I only feel sorry he didn't get to play the season out.
A fresh start will probably benefit him quite a bit. He would look good on a team like the Ravens or Seahawks with a strong running game and good defense. Whatever, I like the guy and hope he succeeds somewhere in the NFC if he moves on.
That being said: I’ll take 3 mil to hold a clipboard and headset and you guys can rag on me ALL day.

I'm with you
But I really think that selling the farm for a QB may not be needed at the moment. I would draft one with a 1st round pick. I might even pick up Manning if he becomes a FA knowing Moore is the backup.
How about we keep Moore as a backup, sign Manning to say a 2 or 3 year deal and then draft a guy to
groom? That seems like a plan that we can all get behind. Right? Too optimistic for this crowd?

I was thinking something similar except
Sign Manning, draft a QB, then trade Moore to help restore whatever we gave up to draft a QB. Unless you’d rather have Moore still on the team due to Payton’s neck problems, then I can see your point.

from what Mannings dad said
I get the feeling Manning does not want to play with a star QB behind him. So unless its a backup like Moore or a project Quarterback I don’t see him signing. I would still keep Moore because you don’t know about Mannings durability
I think he does not want to play with Luck who has been anointed by everyone before taking a single
snap in the NFL. I think him playing with Luck vs. some of the other names is much different. Luck can start from day one. Even RG3 could use a year or two of seasoning.

Yah, henne could have finished the season 32/6
Who’s to say, he might not have thrown another pic all year! We’ll never know. He was on fire, best ever, better than Marino… too bad he is on the bench we could have gone all the way to the SB if henne hadn’t been hurt.
ya know...
I just can’t understand these henne people. henne just couldn’t score points. He had/has so many flaws, I wouldn’t even want him as a backup. What good is a backup if they can’t win games!!!@ I just get so frustrated that some people can’t see what a huge waste of time and talent is was having him as our starting qb.
People still think he will go on to have a big carrier, and will no doubt blame henning or the NFL or all the other teams if he doesn’t… Blame everyone except henne.
he had every opportunity given to him
Never showed me he was a franchise QB.
If I was the next coach or hopefully GM too
I would sign Moore to a 3-4 year deal before next year or tell him we will draft a rookie and he will have to sit on the bench next year. We have to make a commitment to a QB that will be on the team for 3-4 years. Otherwise we will be stuck like Buffalo having to sign him for big money if he has a good season next year.
and i would trade columbo for a $5 footlong

Yeah, that's a good idea.
Like I said, I think either Henne or Moore would be a great choice as a stop gap, I could really care less which one. It’s my personal opinion Henne still has a higher ceiling (I know I’m in the severe minority here) and if the money were the same I’d rather resign Henne. I still feel like we should pull the trigger this year and make every attempt to grab Luck or Griffin. If the price is unreasonable, so be it. Then try to resign Henne to a 2 or 3 year deal.
I hate Seattle weather.
i agree to a point.
i feel like Henne could perform similarly to Moore at this point. THe difference for me is that i think we could more trade wise out of Moore at this point. Maybe a second or third rounder. Outside of that, the two are interchangeable to me.

I can't argue with any of that.
I’m kinda tired of hearing (not saying you said this) how great MM is and how shitty CH was. They were/are, for all intents and purposes, the same guy. But since MM has gotten the 5 wins under his belt, he’s our QB OTF. We don’t have a QB OTF on our roster right now.
I hate Seattle weather.
Here is my problem
I can’t possibly see how Henne will be on this team next year. His contract is up and in 4 years he didn’t show that he is a franchise QB. If Henne played all this year and had numbers like Moore that would be a different story. Everyone would be behind him saying how he’s so much better than Sanchez and Matt Ryan. How the Dolphins had a franchise QB on the roster already and he would grow to be the next Marino (I think Ross said something like that).
Ok that didn’t happen but guess what Moore put up those numbers and he’s one year older than Henne. He also has less starts than Henne and has just as much upside as Henne ever did if not Moore (pun intended). So why does everyone want to put Moore down as nothing more than a backup. The only reason I see is that he was never drafted and Henne was drafted in the second round. Or some people just don’t want to be wrong that they believed in Henne all this time.
When I get some time,
I’m going to compile a list of QBs TD:INT ratios over the last 9 games and compare them to Moore’s 14:3. (4.667). That’s an incredibly high number.
I doubt Henne had a 9 game stretch above 1, much less 4 lol
More of Moore in 2012!

i hear you joel, but one thing to consider
is many of Henne’s ints have come at the end of games or halves on desperation heaves. i am not trying to make excuses for him, but his numbers are a little skewed.

you could argue that point for Moore too
and probably most QB’s.
Except that Henne was behind more often in the 4th than any other QB lol
He never showed the ability to put together a game winning drive. Regardless of his unappropriate nickname, “The Robot”, nerves always got the better of him when it became crunch time.
More of Moore in 2012!
'Phins phor Liphe!
like i said above...
those are good numbers for 5 or 6 game stretch, man, but 14 TDs over a 9 game span isn’t going to get it done in today’s NFL. MAYBE if you’re the Ravens or Steelers. 1.5 TDs a game isn’t good no matter what the ratio is. Those numbers reflect what a great NFL backup would do and has done. He beat the teams we should have and lost the games you’d expect to lose with a backup QB regardless of the TDs or INTs. I don’t understand why you get to pick and choose which games you include in your stats though.
Disclaimer: I’ve been a big Henne supporter in the past. I don’t care if he is or isn’t on the team next year. We need to draft a QB this offseason. This isn’t a Henne vs. Moore argument to me.
I hate Seattle weather.
lets review Cam Newton, Matt Ryan and Matt Moore
I believe he’s beaten many of Peyton Mannings rookie stats
Cam newton
295/492 3,893 yards 7.9 yards per pass 20/16 TD/Int 85.0 QB rating
Matt Moore
88/315 2,362 yards 7.5 yards per pass 15/7 TD/ int 89.7 QB rating
We’re comparing Matt Moore to the best rookie QB to come out since Peyton Manning.
Now lets compare him to another QB that should have been taken #1 in the draft but was not. He has 4 years as a starter under his belt.
Matt Ryan 341/557 4,071 7.3 yards per pass 27/13 TD/Int 90.7 QB rating
QB rating is right up there and TD/Int ratio is about the same. Also yards per pass are higher for Moore.
As you can see from these two comparisons and I only picked these because Newton was the first QB taken in the draft this year and Ryan is the QB we should have drafted 4 years ago. Matt Moore is playing near their level.
I get it, man....
His numbers compare favorably to two franchise QB’s. The number that matters is TDs and, I’m sorry, 15 TDs is a FAIL. Why is everyone dodging that DREADFUL fumble stat? 14 games, 14 fumbles (6 lost).
This is what the stat line really says:
Matt Moore 14 G, 17 TDs, 13 TO
Cam Newton 16 G, 34 TDs, 18 TO
Matt Ryan 16 G, 29 TDs, 15 TO
Matt Moore 17 TDs. Great numbers for a backup, I hope we keep him around and let the guy compete next year. His numbers say he is a great “game manager”, can win games he should and loses the games he should. He will be good for 8 – 10 wins a year. If Henne was only responsible for 17 TDs at this point in the season everyone would be calling for his head, saying how inept we were offensively, and that he was no better than a backup.
We have seen such bad QB play over the last decade that we will latch on to anyone as long their rating is high and they string together a couple of wins. What Matt Moore has done is impressive…..yes. Elite, no. Will you feel confident going into Heinz Field in January with him? How about when he’s staring across the line into Ray Lewis’ mug and sees Reed creeping up into the slot?
I want a QB who makes me confident that we have a great chance to win every week. Matt Moore is essentially Chad Pennington, who had a great one year run here. Manages the game well and will beat the par to subpar teams.
I hate Seattle weather.
really good point
When you add the rushing TD from Newton it makes a big difference. And yes maybe Matt Moore is Chad Pennington. But CP10 took us to the playoffs.
I still say draft a QB even if you have to move up but for god sakes don’t give away the farm doing it.
This where I disagree....
If Henne played all this year and had numbers like Moore that would be a different story. Everyone would be behind him saying how he’s so much better than Sanchez and Matt Ryan.
I think everyone would be saying he’s not scoring enough TDs and we a QB who puts points on the scoreboard in the redzone.
I hate Seattle weather.
Moore needs some good 4Q drives and closing ability
To gain the respect of Miami fans. For whatever reason, we’ve blown a few leads late with Moore in the game. Much of the time, the defense wears down in the 2nd half, but its true we’re not scoring many points late some of the time. Moore has also made some costly fumbles and held onto the ball too long at times. But his deep ball is VERY good and accurate. This is what I like best about Moore. He can stretch the field although curiously, the shorter throws are sometimes off the mark.
There’s truly 1 way to solve the Moore debate: Draft a QB and let the best person win. If Ireland miraculously is able to trade up for Luck, Moore is finished in Miami as a starter – and rightfully so; too much potential awesomeness there. If we draft Griffin, Moore is most likely done as the long term starter but at least he’ll have a chance to showcase he’s an upper echelon NFL starter and we can trade him for picks (or keep him if he’s really awesome). If we draft Tannenhill on down, Moore will be the starter in 2012 and he’ll have every chance to win the position outright.
So essentially when you think about it, the question of whether Moore should be the starter will work itself 1 way or the other. I’m open to whatever the evidence dictates, but I think you HAVE to try and get a QB in the draft; especially with Henne gonzo alonzo.
Henne is the greatest and the Dolphins will go 14-2 this year and win the SB

With no comments we have no site or not much of one. Also if we all agreed what would be the point of
comments?

huh?
I didn’t say I wanted no comments.. just that all the craziness here made me laugh, and apparently made Beav yak.
People don’t all have to agree.. but I would like it if most people could look at the blue sky, at the same time, and be able to use logic and say “the sky is blue.”

You guys all know a lot more about football than I do
I just know that when I watch Moore it looks better. He sells play-action better. His fake handoffs are convincing. Henne literally looked to me like he was going through the motions. Moore can trick the cameraman. I don’t think Henne ever fooled anyone. Moore was at least exciting to watch because he isn’t scared to throw the ball long.
If we can get Luck or RGIII for a reasonable cost, then obviously you do it. The Manning scenario is intriguing as well. But we already have Moore signed on for another year, and most here would agree that they’d rather see Moore somewhere on the team than Henne. Its all going to be very interesting once we see how it shakes down.
But I swear to God, if Colombo is still here I’m gonna eat 10 value meals and go have explosive diarhea all over everyone.
