During our 4-game winning streak, many of us began to wonder if we were staring at our future (even if just for the near future) quarterback. Many people posted, as Matt received mixed reviews. Here he sits at 5-5 as a starter with the Dolphins and putting up pretty impressive numbers (2,081 yards, 12TD/6INT). By the way, 4 of those picks came in the first 4 games he played in, including one pick against San Diego, where he stepped in for Henne. Point being, he was still getting acclimated with our offense.Since those first 4 games, it looks more like 11TD/2INT.
I believe if Moore begins this season as the starter and is getting all the snaps during practice, our record looks more like 9-5. Although this is just speculation, there is plenty of reasons to believe this very well could have been the case. If you expand his stats at his current rate (189.2 yards/game) and stretch them out over an entire season, he puts up approximately 3,027 yards with 18TD/9INT. Keep in mind, he has been getting better, so these numbers are a bit skewed in favor of the slow start.
While these numbers aren't overwhelming, the fact that this is his first year in Daboll's offense (along with the rest of the offense) and he had to step in for Henne a month into the season, and the lockout and he was thrown into the mix, on a team that was 0-3 going on 0-4 and...well you get my point. The odds for success were not in his favor and if you ask me, this has been a successful season for Moore.
Has anybody been hearing the talks around the NFL? Word has it, we have one of the most explosive offenses this year. We aren't putting up a ton of yards, but are in the top 5 for most plays of 20 yards or more. Daboll has opened up the playbook with Moore. I don't remember the last time I saw the Dolphins take so many shots down field in a game (Buffalo) and be quite successful at it. Moore delivers the ball with touch and accuracy, along with the occasional head scratcher, but he's been limiting those to at most, 1 per game.
I know I will be praised for these words of wisdom, so here it goes. With Barkley staying in college for another year and the great QB prospects wearing thin in this draft, I believe we take the next biggest need, holding off one more year and giving Matt a chance. Who's with me? If we can move up and get RGIII for the right price, I am also on board for that, otherwise I want Matt to start next year.
