Those who defend Ireland always point out that before this year he was just the front man for the Smelly Tuna. Everything that was bad was the doing of Parcels. If that's true then everything that was good was also Parcels because Ireland was just the front man.
The good, the bad and the ugly all belongs to Parcels. So no credit for Bess, Pennington, Wake, Starks, Fasano, Marshall etc. At the same time we won't blame him for the blunders like Wiford, Green, Wilson or any of the other dozen blunders. Let's judge him for this year and this year only.
In the draft he failed to find us a QB that he had already promised us. He drafted an excellent center and a pretty productive backup running back. In the later rounds he drafted a good backup tight end in Clay, a speedy WR and a corner that made the team and got some playing time. Some people seem to think this draft class is great but I only think it's decent. We only have one starter out of the bunch and he's not a quarterback. The rest of them have shown flashes but none have made an impact.
Burnett and Moore are about the only free agent's that have played well. And Moore was not even allowed to compete for the job until Henne went down. On the bad free agent moves there is the mess at CB with Sapp and Allen. and the disaster that is Colombo!!!! None of the other free agent have made much of an impact. And I don't want to hear about Jason Taylor because the guy was begging to come back at minimum salary.
The trade for Bush has worked out better than I would have thought but keep in mind Bush was the 3rd or 4th running back we went after.
While I don't hate Ireland and think he deserves a C as a grade what bugs me is that he escapes critsism and blame for any of the mistakes. Except for whoregate which was all him.
