The San Francisco 49ers host a match up of division leaders tonight, as the Pittsburgh Steelers head west. The 49ers have clinched the NFC West, while the Steelers locked themselves into the post season yesterday when the Indianapolis Colts upset the Tennessee Titans, but are looking to put a game between themselves and the Baltimore Ravens, who lost in San Diego yesterday.
This should be a highly entertaining game. Enjoy!

It seems SF has 6 points in every game, as in 2 FGs
Even against the mediocre/bad teams. Just about every game they’ve had an oddball score due to kicking multiple FGs

People saying we should win out (and miss a qb), how moore is a franchise qb who can be elite. One guy said this years draft class sucks and that Rgiii and barkley are imaginary. somehow the discussion turned to cutler and people saying cutler is as good as rodgers.

it's just amazing that you could watch football
and watch other football teams play and win and go to Super Bowls, and STILL not believe that we need a QB. It’s amazing that you could be a Dolphins fan for any part of the last 12 years and NOT see the tremendous need for a dynamic coach and QB.
There is no logic behind the thought of keeping Sparano, Ireland, and Henne or Moore.. All we hear all offseason from fans is how the Dolphins get no respect in the media and ESPN has a bias against us and we should be ranked higher in this or that.. then we are fully mediocre all season.. Why the fuck would ESPN want to talk about us? We don’t matter! We haven’t since before Marino retired! And that’s ok with some people.. I feel like if you are satisfied and shitting unicorns and rainbows when we are 7-9, you don’t know shit.

on both ends. The Monday Night Miracle. Fake Spike. The 81 overtime playoff game (Kellen Winslow getting carried off the field). The longest game in NFL history. The Wildcat game lol.
We are franchise rich with tradition. The most prolific passer of all-time. The greatest coach of all-time. The greatest team of all-time. The first team to go to 3 back-to-back Super Bowls. We used to be the winningest franchise of all-time not too long ago.
Now? We might as well not exist in the NFL. We haven’t played a truly meaningful football game since 2008. We haven’t won a playoff game since 2002. We haven’t been in a Super Bowl since 84…

I mean the bottom line is we are all fans that want SB Rings
Trust me I see the upside in Moore and he has earned a shot with us.. However by shot I don’t mean an extension just yet, or at least the nod to be our long term answer..
Our huge problem has been filling Marino’s shoes. We don’t expect someone as great as Marino, we get that.. But we need a franchise quarterback.. I’m so sick of us being mentioned with the Bills (Kelly), 49ers (Young, though they had him and Montana back to back so they shouldn’t bitch) and Denver (Elway) when it comes to franchises unable to replace their top QBs..
We have seen good QB play from other guys as well that we gave the go ahead, only to fail.. We cannot make this mistake again.. I mean I hate to say it, but I don’t even understand the other side of the arguement.. Draft a QB, Otherwise, if injury-prone Moore gets hurt, or turns out to be mediocre, then what? We’re fucked for another decade? No thank you.

After thinking about it for a while, I think I understand why fans are so scared to draft a QB in the first
Anytime these discussions are brought up, you will always here 4 names: Tom Brady, Drew Brees, JaMarcus Russell, and Ryan Leaf. There seems to be so much extremism with this argument. If you mention drafting a 1st round QB, then people bring up Russell and Leaf. Bring up the woes of drafting a late round QB, and they bring up Brady and Brees. People are scared to draft a QB early, because they are afraid they will bust. People think that since Brady and a small handful of other became good QBs, that anyone can develop a late round QB.
I liken this to investments. Drafting a 1st round QB is like investing in the stock market. It’s volatile, but can be HUGELY rewarding. Drafting a late round QB is like investing in savings bonds. You don’t stand to lose much if anything at all, but you aren’t going to get a payoff either.

I looked at some numbers before the last draft
Since 1980, the odds of finding a long term answer at QB from any round other than the 1st was about 4%. The odds of finding a long term answer in the first round is about 25%. What makes that so remarkable is that you have at least 6 times as many rounds after the first and yet the odds still drop off that significantly. I think I still have my notes for that. I feel a fanpost in the works (another one).

that percentage jumps. You have a better chance of finding at least a quality starter than you do of drafting a bust. And when you are drafting in the top 10, that percentage jumps as well. Top 10 QB’s are more often elite than busts

Well 20 years ago, you had like 15 rounds so that helped your odds
But still, you have a 4% chance of picking a winner in 6 rounds whereas you have a 25% chance of picking a winner in one round. Mathematically, that doesn’t make sense. It really puts a huge dent in the argument that QBs are the product of a system. The only answer to those odds is that the most talented QBs pan out in the pros and those are found in the 1st round.

Actually, if you look at the stats, the boom/bust ratio for QBs drafted in the first round since 1983 is 47% percent boom, 53% bust
This may not count for much until you realize its not about simply getting the guy, but getting the right guy.
P.S. The disclaimer for that stat is that it doesnt include the percentages for the last 2 years seeing as it is really too early to tell.

It was a generalized statement, directed at anyone really.
As far as ignoring goes, sometimes its good to not do so, keeps the blood flowing. What i mean is that in specific instances where i have chosen to comment, i will no longer do so. To refrain from having these so called flame wars.
BTW, no i dont have any napalm, but my MOS in the Marines was AOD, which means i simply painted targets and defused explosives as well as gotten rid of faulty artillary. Which means i can make things not go boom, lol.

yeah I think NE is in the mix
and Pittsburgh as long as Ben is healthy.
But GB and NO are clearly the best two teams in the league, and SF is making a case to be in that class. They are primed for the playoffs too. Good run game, great defense, efficient QB play, very few turnovers. They won’t flat out beat everyone else.. but they will capitalize if teams beat themselves

I think he's brought in some quality players
but very little impact. We still don’t have a QB, we still don’t have a solid starter at all 5 OL positions, we still lack defensive playmakers, especially in the secondary, and we still don’t have any explosive playmakers outside of Reggie Bush on offense..
So he’s done a good job, but that’s as far as it goes. He hasn’t done a good enough job.
