Hey guys, now that Sparano is fired, I wanted to give my opinion on how our offseason should go. so, here goes
Coaching staff (only positions that will be changed are listed e.g. Defensive Coordinator is not listed because Nolan should stay):
Head Coach: Pete Carmichael Jr./Rob Chudzinski - Either one would be a good fit here. They are both offensive coaches who have experience developing young qbs into stars
Offensive Coordinator: Mike Shula - Yes, a shula, we need a shula on the coaching staff again. His family isn't the only reason I choose him though. Shula is mostly responsible for helping Cam Newton become an NFL qb. He was one of the top choices to replace Cameron back on 08, but we chose Sparano instead, we make the right decision this time and sign the real young shula.
Trade (whoever you want) for 2nd round pick
Sign FA Ben Grubbs from Baltimore - An immediate upgrade over Carey at RG. And he instantly makes our OL better
Those are the only major deals I think we need to make, obviously there will be others, but we need to address our needs through the draft, not FA.
1st: Robert Griffin III, QB, baylor - easily the 2nd best qb in the draft and should solidify the position for years to come. He possesses a great combination of accuracy, speed and smarts to quickly pick up the offense and lead this team far.
Other possibilities: Matt Barkley, QB, USC, Matt Kalil, OT, USC
2nd: Dwayne Allen, TE, Clemson - Dwayne Allen is one of those TEs that only show up once in a while. He is an elite blocking and receiving talent. He reminds me of the Patriots' Gronkowski
Other possibilities: DJ fluker, OT, alabama, Bruce Irvin, OLB, West Viginia
2nd (from trade): Nate Potter, OT, Boise State - a huge upgrade over colombo, and can hold down the right side of the line for years. He was in charge of protecting Kellen Moore's blindside, which he did admirably. While he might not be elite physically, but is quick with his feet and gets to the second level well. It would be ideal if he added some muscle in the offseason though.
Other possibilities: Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford, Nick Toon, WR, Wisconson
3rd - Winston Guy Jr., S, Kentucky - a good safety that can play both positions. A sleeper pick for now and should be able to either replace bell, or play FS. He is a great athlete and does well in zone coverage.
Other possibilites: Brandon Weeden, QB, OK state, Trumaine Johnson, FS/CB, montana
4th: Brandon Boykin, CB/KR, Georgia - Obviously the gates experiment at KR isn't working, and boykin should be a huge upgrade. Plus, he gives us another option at CB, which is always good
5th: Brandon Washington, OG/OT, UMiami - should be a good upgrade at backup OG, and the eagles game showed us how important depth is at the OL. He might even end up to be a steal.
6th: Xavier Gooden, OLB, Missouri - if we transfer to a 4-3 D, something I believe would be a good decision, wake would move over to DE, and dansby and misi to OLB, while Burnett mans the ILB. We would need an upgrade at backup though, which Gooden would provide
7th: Chris Rainey WR/RB/KR/PR - is ther anything this kid can't do? He is lightning fast, boasting a 4.33 40 time and is versatile enough to return kicks, while also playing a situational role on offense.
7th (compensatory): Adelwele ojomo, DE, UMiami - a good depth pick, exactly what we need in the tail end of the draft
