2011 Heisman Trophy Presentation Live Thread
[UPDATE: Congratulations to Robert Griffin III and Baylor University for winning the 2011 Heisman Trophy.]
The 2011 Heisman Trophy will be awarded tonight, live on ESPN. Coverage starts at 8pm EST.
From the official website, here are the 2011 Heisman Trophy nominees:
Montee Ball is leading the nation with 1,759 rushing yards as well as 32 rushing touchdowns for Wisconsin. He holds second place all-time at UW with 60 career touchdowns and 54 career rushing touchdowns. He has the opportunity to join two other Badgers in this elite fraternity: Ron Dayne (1999) and Alan Ameche (1954).
Robert Griffin III has the opportunity to be the first player from Baylor to receive The Heisman Memorial Trophy. The junior quarterback is ranked second in the nation in total offense with 387 yards per game. This season he threw 36 touchdowns and passed for 3,998 yards. Griffin and former Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow are two of four players in major college history with at least 9,000 yards passing and 2,000 yards rushing in a career.
Andrew Luck is looking to be the second Cardinal to take home The Heisman Trophy after Jim Plunkett won in 1970. The red-shirt junior passed for 3,170 yards and 35 touchdowns this season. Luck leads the Pac-12 in passing efficiency with 167.5 and broke Stanford's records for career touchdown passes and single-season touchdown passes. While leading the Cardinals to an 11-1 record, he rushed for 153 yards and scored 2 touchdowns.
Tyrann Mathieu is looking to be the second LSU Tiger to win The Heisman Memorial Trophy after Billy Cannon won in 1959. The sophomore had 71 tackles, 5 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions this year. He also gained 420 yards and 2 touchdowns in punt returns during LSU's 13-0 season. If Mathieu wins, he will be the second cornerback to be inducted into this group of outstanding college football players joining Charles Woodson (1997).
Trent Richardson rushed for 1,583 yards and had 20 touchdowns this season for Alabama. In nine of his twelve games, the running back rushed for over 100 yards for the 11-1 Crimson Tide. If awarded the Heisman, Richardson will only be the second player from Alabama to receive the trophy after 2009 winner, Mark Ingram, Jr.

Speaking of giving back awards..
Looks like Ryan Braun might have to give up his NL MVP. Suspended for 50 game for testing positive
He's reading off the back of the trophy.

All kidding aside RG III is a trend setter.. With his athleticism and ability, he hits exactly what the position needs at this point IMO. I just hope we don’t go all in on Matt Moore for the future just yet.

The key thing is he has improved from the first 3 games
which is why we have gone 4-1 over the last five weeks. I’d like to see him lead the team on a game winning drive in the 4th. That would go a long way to determining his franchise QB potential.

So if Manning is released, would you want Miami to sign him
or stick with Moore and draft a QB? Personally, I’d rather have RG3 who can be good or great for 12+ years than have Manning who doesn’t have much left on the odometer.

It's funny so many people say that
Yet we have good pick after good pick this year.
So if they can draft damn well this year, why are we all afraid of what they will do?
Sept. 26, 2010 - 2013 Draft Kyle Padron Bandwagon
It's what they may not do
They pick good players, yes. But I just hope they make the big move this year.. I just feel like RG III can make or break our long term future.. I would say the same regardless of who is in charge, even if we got a new regime in here. It’s a big move, and sometimes drafts are played safe. It may take some aggressiveness to get it done.
I doubt our current regime would.
But they shall be gone.

I'd take RG III and just move on
but i feel either he, Barkley, Luck, or Manning has to be on our roster next year. I like what Moore’s doing, but I can’t put all my eggs in that basket just yet.. We’ve fell for the 2nd half season sparks too much in the past
Maybe it's been Shanahan's plan all along
I can’t believe he actually thought he had a chance winning with Grossman and Beck this year against Eili, ROMO, and Vick
So much for the worries that RG3 will be too short...
he’s nearly the same height as Luck, only off by an inch or so.

Miami Dolphins
Luck should win….I’m a new blogger born in Miami in 1951 left in 1972. went to almost every game from the 1966 opener through 1971….had to watch the perfect season on TV in Greenville SC. Graduated from North Miami high school busted my ankle playing on the JV team in 10th grade during a kick off drill. Tried out for the kansas city royals and oakland A’s in 1968 at age 17…couldn’t hit a major league fastball…lol….Pete Broberg through a fastball by me at 95 iles an hour and i swung so late i hit the catchers mitt and was awarded first base….my sports career ended that day. The only sports team I’ve ever lived and died for is the Dolphins 46 years of ups and downs but there’s never been a Dolphin I haven’t rooted for to succeed. Howard Twilley was my hero…one of only two of our expansion team to make it through to our undefeated season in 1972….the other was OL Norm Evans. I also liked Earl Morral he should have won the MVP for his MVP year in 1972. But the best deal the Fins ever made was stealing Don Shula away from the Colts. The Colts were my favorite team before the Dolphins came along….My favorite player for the current Dolphins is Jason Taylor but theres another one who should get some credit….His name is Matt Moore. People ridiculed him when he was signed by the Fins.. Now he’s won 4 of his last five games and lost one by a point in Dallas….I think Matt Moore is our QB of the future. Henne was run out of town by the current so called fair weather fans of the Dolphins. I went to almost every game from 1966-69 when George Wilson was coach….we were bad but I was always thrilled when I saw the Dolphins play. We won 15 games in those first 4 seasons….Shula erased those memories and took us to 10-4 in his first year in 1970 then three straight Super Bowls in 71-73….I’m proud to be a Dolphins fan….my dad was too he passed away in 1992….my former bro. in law Bill and I are still diehard Fin fans….I root for the underdogs usually….Matt Moore is an underdog….I hope he takes us to a Super Bowl win next year….I wom the game ball Ray Lucas was awarded quite a few years ago….my dads name was ray…the only game ball he ever was awarded by Miami….I live in Winder GA now having just moved from Athens GA the past weekend…..I have rooted for the canes also sinc ethe 1950’s….I’m proud of their success too…but they were only my second favorite team….I hurt when the Dolphins lose but am thrilled when they win….They’re my team and always will be….for what its worth….you all have a Merry Christmas and God bless you all….the aquamarine and coral will rise again…someday soon I pray…Tim Tebow i respect immensely…I’m a Christian first a husband and father second and an american who loves what his ocuntry used to be….right now america sucks eggs ….football isn’t life or death…..the obscentity on these websites makes me sick. my son wants to be an e’r’ nurse when he graduates from homeschooling high school next spring….he and my dad are my real heroes…like I said….for what its worth…
