Draft needs
Courtesy of a good 2011 draft and decent development of some players on our roster, I really think most of our needs could be addressed in the first three rounds.
Round 1: QB – Matt Moore has played above average, so I feel better about drafting a first round QB since he’ll have time to develop rather than getting thrown to the wolves his first year. Matt Moore is in his 5th year, so his ceiling has been set. Not hating against Moore – I want him to start at least the first few games next year, and if we win games, I won’t be complaining – but I’m not comfortable looking to draft yet another O-lineman in the first round instead of a QB.
Round 2: Right Tackle – I truly believe Marc Colombo has cost us at least 2 games this year. He has been that bad in pass blocking. Hopefully, Lydon Murtha, Nate Garner, and John Jerry continue to develop so next year we have
LT: Long
LG: Garner ideally, if not then Incognito
C: Pouncey
RG: Incognito ideally, if not then Carey or John Jerry
RT: Newly Drafted RT prospect or Murtha
Incognito would be better as a right guard. Nate Garner played well against the Giants’ beastly defensive line, so I wouldn’t mind Garner at LG, allowing Incognito to play at RG.
I wouldn’t mind a training camp competition between Lydon Murtha (who played well enough to start at tackle this preseason before getting injured) and our newly drafted RT.
I left out Colombo because Colombo is a shell of his former shelf. I’m interested in replacing Carey because he is becoming more injury prone. I’m fond of Carey because of the years he’s played well, but he’s not great as a guard and I’d rather have more youth on our offensive line so that we’re set for several years (no more tinkering or high draft picks!).
Round 3: Pass rushing OLB. Taylor has gotten a couple of good sacks but we need someone ASAP to take advantage of the attention Wake draws while Wake is still a beast.
To round off my mock draft
Round 4: Free safety (Culver-Clemons at FS and Bell-Jones at SS is an okay situation, so the new safety would have time to develop).
Round 5: Nose tackle prospect (I think we re-sign Paul Soliai this year seeing as he’s played well but not amazing so a reasonable deal can be made, but it’d be nice to groom a backup or eventual replacement)
Round 6: CB prospect (Will Allen is getting old, and a team that plays the Pats every year can never have too many good CBs)
Round 7: Backup OG prospect
Of course, we could turn to free agency too, but this is the first draft in AWHILE I wasn’t counting on us trying to find a quality starter past the 3rd round.
At WR, we’re set guys. Marshall and Bess are among the highest paid #1 WR and slot receivers in the game. Hartline has played well, making tough catches and showing high effort despite being targeted rarely.
At TE, Fasano is proving he can produce if he doesn’t have to block all the time. Charles Clay is flashing playmaking ability as a rookie. If anything, our TEs and WRs suffer from not being targeted enough in the passing game, so drafting another TE/WR would just further stunt any chance at developing promising rookies like Clay and Gates.
At RB, we have the perfect complementing RBs of Reggie Bush (speed) and Daniel Thomas (power).
Offensive line can be fixed via the draft.
On defense, our defensive unit is playing outstanding. We just lack a young pass rushing OLB stud to take advantage of the constant double teams on Wake.
At DE, we have too much depth if anything.
At CB, Will Allen and Jimmy Wilson are adequate backups to Davis and Smith.
We have four decent to good safeties.
ILB and one OLB position are set.
I still think we should take a TE in the second

Miss the misery.
Need a reason for a change.
Need a reason to explain.
So turn it on again.
Don't change your mind.
You're wasting light.
Taco time!

LT, move long to RT, second pick, guard. Wait till next following year to adress the TE, in the first rd!
