Vikings at Packers Monday Night Football Live Thread

Photo

The Monday Night Football game this week follows in the Sunday Night game's footprints, matching up two division rivals.  This time, it's NFC North with the Minnesota Vikings playing the Green Bay Packers.  Green Bay is looking to continue their dominance of the NFL, while the Vikings are coming off their bye week, hoping to hand the Packers their first loss of the year.  The two teams met just three weeks ago, with the Packers coming out on top of a 33-27 score.

It should be a highly enjoyable game!

by Souwantmyname on Nov 14, 2011 8:29 PM EST up reply actions

didn't see it

but FSU is clearly a better football team right now. Miami is rebuilding, we have a full roster of guys who were poorly coached for their entire time on campus, and you’re seeing just that. Guys improve week to week, but everybody on the team makes freshmen mistakes on a game by game basis. I have faith in Golden because he was competitive at Temple and found a way to recruit and coach up NFL level talent at a school that has no business doing that.

I’m really excited to see what kind of caliber of player he brings in next year, and how the younger guys improve during the offseason.

FSU’s defense is phenomenal and they have probably 6 future NFL starters on that side of the ball, maybe more.

See I thought they played really well

Especially that defense. They played better than they have shown this year. What I noticed is that the Canes have no depth. Its really gonna hurt when that famed “Miami Northwestern class” finally leaves.

You do realize the game should have been a blowout right. The refs took 2 touchdowns off the board and negated 2 game clinching int’s. I have never been so anfry after a win in my life

by Souwantmyname on Nov 14, 2011 8:36 PM EST up reply actions

Oh I know

trust me, I heard it lol

I don’t think the Northwestern class is a big loss at this point. You have a backup lineman, a failure at QB, a WR not on the team anymore, another WR who is still eligible for next season, a third WR who is about 18th on the depth chart, and an All-American LB.

Spence is the only guy from that class that I’ll miss next year, unless Streeter (stupidly) declares

Ray Guy didn't score TD's

and coffin corner punts weren’t exciting. He certainly belongs in the Hall, but that’s the reason he’s not there already.

I think Hester gets in simply because of the huge impact he makes on games, the fact that he’ll be an all-time record holder in a TD stat, and that he was exciting.

If we pulled off 9-7

I would actually be okay with them coming back for another year (as blasphemous as that is to say). It would mean they fought through adversity, and actually performed. Given them another year, without a lockout, and see what happens.

But, if they were gone, I wouldn’t complain, either.

we gotta get that partial roof over the stands

we went to a 4 o’clock game earlier this year (Houston) with like a group of 50, by the 2nd quarter, there were only 5 of us actually sitting in the seats watching the game. Everybody else was either in the concourse to avoid the sun or back at the car. It’s too damn hot for the fans to give the team any kind of advantage, unless you are just gonna fill the stadium with other athletes lol

It is. Very much so.

But, I think if you go 9-0 after going 0-7, you might deserve that final chance, when you consider the lockout, with a OC change, the addition of Burnett and cut of Crowder, etc. I don’t think it will happen, even if they get to 9-7, but I wouldn’t necessarily be against it.

I don't want to consider the lockout because the whole league was locked out

The OC change was supposed to be a positive, but outside of the KC game we can’t score anything.

I think cutting Crowder in favor of Burnett was a bad move, lockout or not.

I’m against these guys sticking around. We’ve been progressively worse every year they’ve been here since the miracle after 1-15 (thank you Chad P)

Have to think

"The first thing I do when I get out of bed and feel the jolt in my knees is think of Roy Winston. On the second step, my calcified Adam's apple starts bobbing, and I think of Carl Eller. A few more steps in the dark and it's Willie Lanier. By the time I get to the bathroom, I'm flashing back to Dick Butkus and Ray Nitschke. And when the light finally comes on, I just hope that somewhere in the darkness they're thinking of me, too" - Larry Csonka.

My wife loves NPR's this american life

she was listening to a story about a very devout Christian who went through Las Vegas

He thought Satan was getting too much advertising, so he decided to build a giant cross.

At the end of it she called me in the room to listen because the they said the guy’s son was a famous football player who played for the Dolphins and that his daughter was a model who married his teammate, another successful player.

SO yes it is true, and you can google it as well

He's a much better passer right now than Vick

more accurate, better footwork, better timing, better touch. He’s a very good passer, but it gets overlooked by his speed and the fact that he’s in an offense that runs a lot of options

I love those players

I coached one for the last couple years, played MLB.. at 12 years old he was 165 of solid muscle and made like 140 tackles in an 11 game season. This year, at 13, he was 180 (still solid) and probably had 160 tackles. He just reads things so quick and hits like a truck.

But the only way we draft him is if Moore becomes a franchise QB. But Vontaze be on my Madden team eventually

The interesting thing is we don't know who will be in charge of our draft

So it’s hard to predict who our guys will pick for a QB. Would Ross really prefer one of Jones, Barkley, RGIII over the other two? I’m not sure of that

by phinsphan85 on Nov 14, 2011 11:30 PM EST reply actions

I don't know if Ross would have a preference..

but it does depend on the GM-Coach combo.

I think it’s Barkley if we want to run a complex offense, Griffin if we want a dual threat and want to spread it out more, and Jones if we are gonna run a Mike Martz-style “fling it everywhere” offense.

by phinsphan85 on Nov 14, 2011 11:36 PM EST up reply actions

I see Griffin as a more polished passer

and a better NFL-level passer because of his touch and accuracy to go with the howitzer.

Also, a dual-threat won the Super Bowl last year, except people don’t see Rodgers as a “running QB.” He’s dangerous outside the pocket and can run for first downs.

If Miami, Washington, Seattle and Cleveland are all in the top 10, it’s very likely that three of those four teams will take quarterbacks. That automatically denotes Griffin as a top 10 pick. He really shouldn’t turn this down.

A big-time quarterback gets asses in the seats. He knows that; everyone knows that. And Ross is ballsy enough to do whatever it takes to protect his investment, and that includes trading up to get his man. I just hope we can get our guy from our natural draft spot.

In 9 games this year, Rodgers has thrown for more TDs than Miami did all of last year

He’s also had back-to-back 4 TD games. I believe it’s been well over a decade since a Miami player threw for 4 TDs in a game.
