Who's worse? 2007 or 2011 Dolphins?

With the awful play of the Miami Dolphins this year, I couldn't resist comparing the "talent" on this team to the dreadful 2007 team. The main question I will attempt to answer is "Could this team be worse than the 2007 squad?" I will compare starters from both teams and try to come up with an answer. Statistically, I couldn't compare the teams until the season is over, so judging by the roster, what do you guys think? By the way, my apologies for focusing on such a negative, but I'm pretty much numb from all of the losses and I was just curious about my fellow Phin fans' opinions.

If you look at the roster alone, it's clear which has more talent. What do you guys think?

I voted for the 07 squad

JT and Zach alone were the heart that kept that team fighting each and every game to get that elusive win.

Blah...

We have to admit the Zach in ’07 was not the same Zach we loved in the years before.

Talent wise....

2007 Miami is worse, but they didn’t quit and they had heart. This team just goes through the game for the sake of playing and I don’t see determination like the ‘07 club did. It seems like they’re just playing for a paycheck and because they have to.

Agreed

That team fought hard to win, and came up just short in several games. This team its just don’t seem like they are into it, like they have given up. I mean come on it was Tim Tebow out there, he is a gamer and he comes from winning but it doesn’t change his shortcomings. I think the 07 squad would have won the Denver game, well to be honest I think the other 30 teams would have won this game as well.

Agree I had to go with this years team

Tony has been here what 4 years Cam was only a first year coach and really no offensive weapons like we have now also the 07 team played their hearts out it seems this team just seems to either tire out or just dont try hard enough

This, exactly.

I supported that 07 team until the very end because they were clearly the most untalented team in the league but they never gave up. They were also in the first year of a rebuild, and things were supposed to be tough.

This, on the other hand, is a reasonably talented team that plays with no heart at all. They are far, far worse to me and I find it hard to give a damn about them.

This ^

I couldn’t agree with you more. There is no fight in this years team. I can’t remember more pathetic efforts week in and week out ever since I became a fan of this team and that says a lot seeing as how I was a fan during the 2007 campaign.

by PhinnyFromItaly on Oct 24, 2011 10:19 AM EDT reply actions

100% Agreed

That 07 team was full of backups by week 3 and put up a fight in every game losing 8+ games by 7 points or less. That was a showing of heart and determination by the players. Cleo Lemon to Greg Cam for the game winner to keep us from going 0-16. This team hasnt shown the slightest bit of heart or even interest in winning. Even when they are up 15 with less than 3 to go. This team is far worse because they have soo much more talent. Also the '07 team fought every game with the talent they had.

This team lays down every week…very sad!

Both teams suck equally bad

A key piece you may be missing on there are the coaches, coordinators.

I only voted ’07 because there was not an option to vote for both.

This year is much worse IMO

In 2007, we competed every single game. We NEVER gave up, never looked resigned. We lost alot of games by 3 points or less. This team competed early in the season, but since Henne has been out, we haven’t given any team a run for their money. I know alot of you will not agree with me about Henne, but when he was playing, he was one of the only guys on the field that was playing like they wanted to win! We are reallllyy bad this year!

This year is worse due to the fact was have better players and we still suck!!!

It's about even

With some 2007 squads being better and some 2011 squads being better, though I say the 2007 team was worse, but only slightly.

2011

Worse at most positions. Better rbs that’s it. At wr I would rather have 07. Chambers & booker were playmakers that were also leaders & could catch the ball. It wasn’t red zone drops. The corners were actually getting turnovers out there. The o line was better “overall” but pouncey & long are better individual. Our d in 07 was a 4 man front which is better than our 3 man down now. I like 07 more than now period.

Booker was not a playmaker.

And Chambers was traded to San Diego in mid-October. We had him for only 5 games. Marshall, Hartline, and Bess are a better than Booker, Camarillo, and Ginn. Even Zach Thomas was no longer the player he once was and he only started 5 games. Outside of players like Ronnie Brown, Keith Traylor, Will Allen, and Jason Taylor, our talent was pretty atrocious.

The talent level we have today is better, but they don’t play like a team determined to win. Sometimes, they don’t even look like they’re playing as a team. You put 2011 players such as Chad Henne, Brandon Marshall, Brian Hartline, Davone Bess, Jake Long, Mike Pouncey, Karlos Dansby, and Yeremiah Bell on the 2007 squad and give them heart and determination, we would win more games.

I don’t think Jason Allen/Cameron Worrell was better than Bell, Joery Porter was better than Cameron Wake, and I don’t think Zach Thomas/Derrick Pope were better than Karlos Dansby. I also don’t think Trent Green/Cleo Lemon/John Beck were better than Chad Henne and Matt Moore. I know Samson Satele and Vernon Carey were not better than Pouncey and Long.

If you look at the roster alone, it’s clear which has more talent.

I’m not so sure it wasn’t the 2007 team with more talent. Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor 1 year removed from DPOY, Joey Porter, Channing Crowder when he was relevant. I’m not getting all those who say we’re a “talented” team this year. We have hols all over the place.

Henne is the greatest and the Dolphins will go 14-2 this year and win the SB

by zeusmith on Oct 24, 2011 8:40 PM EDT reply actions

The offense is more talented this year

But overall, it’s close. The OL should definitely be more talented especially, with RB, QB, WR about the same (maybe a little better because of Marshall.)

1 person

is not better than the core of WRs we had then, yeah Marshall is a beast but some people dont remember, Chambers was a beast in his time here, Booker was a solid #2 wr. I would rather have 2 good/above average WRs than 1 monster that everyone can double whenever they choose.

Go ask Oocho, Housh, Boldin, Fitz and I can name others about how they are doing since they lost their 2nd threat..

Right side of the line completely solid. If Henne had that line he would have all day to throw. (under new offensive coach of course)

by Fintastic47 on Oct 25, 2011 8:06 AM EDT up reply actions

Chambers had more problems holding on to passes than Marshall did

And he was also traded after 5 games. The comparison is more Booker/Camarillo/Ginn with Marshall/Hartline/Bess. I happen to remember Booker was not a solid #2. I was so frustrated by him because he had no ability to separate from CBs. If you consider, Marshall, our top WR now, is already close to reaching Booker’s numbers in 2007, when he was Miami’s top WR. Booker averaged 37.1 YPG as our top WR and Ginn, who became our #2, averaged 26.3 YPG. Chambers, in 5 games, put up the same numbers as Ginn did for the entire season.

I looked at the 2007 team and said thought we needed a lot of talent. I look at the 2011 team and think we need heart, determination, and solid leadership.

Chambers is not a better WR than Marshall. Booker is not a better WR than Hartline. Bess is also better than Camarillo. But hey, since Chambers was traded, let’s take a look at the other way. Marshall is better than Booker. Hartline is better than Ginn. Bess is better than Camarillo. Especially in 2007, when Camarillo got his first action in the NFL and only caught 8 passes for the year.

Taylor definitely

Zach Thomas wasn’t the same player and lasted only 5 games. Derrick Pope was our starting MLB for the majority of the season. Porter wasn’t very effective for our defense in 2007 and Wake has already reached his numbers (5 sacks). Crowder was relevant for the 11 games he played before his annual injury, but he couldn’t force a single fumble or even have a pass defensed.
