As you guys know I'm a Channing supporter. I like him as a player and a person. I also know a fair amount of are not, that's OK too. But the fact remains that the Fins were better with him than they are now. So when I discovered he was doing his radio at a local bar & grill I headed over to catch up with my old buddy. I got there a little late and the show was already in progress. However, during there 1st commercial break I walked up to the broadcast table. Nothing cooler than having a player ( and one you like ) jump right up and with a giant grin " Griff ! What's up ?". I replied, " this is fucking bullshit,...your ass needs to be on the field". I continued, "the Wifey is over there". He immediately ran over to say hello before the segment begun.
During the show I asked if they had any tickets left as they had 50 pairs to give away ( I was going to score them, then post on FB for anyone that needed a pair ), they did not. However, the guys at WQAM said, "we do have a 12 pack of Corona if you want". Score ! M.M. was indeed happy with that.
So after the show ended we got to hang with Channing for a little bit. During our conversation I learned some interesting things. Like Channing release was based on money, they wanted him to take a pay cut which he refused. I asked if his groin was completely healed and if that played into it. He said he was fine. He looked at Buffalo, New England, Seattle, & Minnesota but didn't want to play for any of those teams. You see Channing and his Wife just had their 1st child, so not playing this year is kind of a blessing in disguise. Good for him I thought. I asked if he would want to play again for the Dolphins, "not under this regime". Can you blame him ? I went on to say that we both know they are out of thereat some point. Here Channing told me that just yesterday he spoke with Wayne Huizenga. Now we all know Ross owns the team, but it appears Mr Huizenga still has some influence. He went on to say, " Wayne said to not leave the area, there is going to be some furniture that gets moved around". I don't know what that furniture comment means, but I can read between the lines just as well as the next guy.
I asked if the team has quit. "No,...they just have no leader". I said, " no shit, you're standing right here". He continued, "say what you will about my stats, my defense got results". I concurred, "that is a true story". Moving on, I asked about the Sanchez TD run last week. Again I explained I'm not an X's & O's guy and I thought it was a blown coverage. It was not. It was the perfect call against that defensive formation. He said the safeties were to help defend against the pass, leaving nobody but the lineman in that area. He went on to say that was the same way Houston's Shaub scored for a game winning score a couple of years ago.
Channing, the Wifey, and I chatted some more. I mention I'm doing the DCC to his reply, "nice knowing ya, you're going to die,....that's 170 miles" with a chuckle. Getting back to Buffalo & Seattle, it appears he is not a fan of rainy weather. He said he looked up the weather conditions in those areas to discover what I learn 1st hand, it rains lot there (more so in Seattle). He also mentioned what I already knew,...those ares have a high suicide rate. "No way I'm living where its gloomy all the time". although I didn't meet his Wife as she was involved in her own conversation at another table, I told him, "you're like me, you married up". That gave him a chuckle.
Now,...here is the kicker. I pulled up The Phinsider on my phone and let him check out part of my M.M. meet MrMedic post. He loved it, "Griff that shit is funny,....motorboat some babe,...funny." so,....of course I introduced them to each other.....
On a side note,.....sorry about the number of posts I put up lately. I hope you don't mind, but I thought this was some good stuff.
