We're not even 3 years removed from winning the division and people are already abandoning hope and rooting for the team to lose for an unproven rookie who has already been anointed the savior.
Take a look around the league and your own damn teams history before you start giving up so easily. Since 2000 we have had 3 playoff appearances, one playoff win, and 6 winning seasons. That's hardly to be considered worthy of the fan base to just give up all hope.
Or maybe you should talk to a Detroit Lions fan. Since 2000 they have no playoff appearances, one winning season, and an NFL record 0-16 season. But they've got Matthew Stafford and Megatron!! They went 0-16! They deserve to finally be playing well. It also helps to have two 2nd overall and one 1st overall pick playing for you.
Maybe a Cleveland Browns fan? Since 2000 they have one playoff appearance, no playoff wins, and 2 winning seasons. But they have Peyton Hillis! Ok, even they're not that thrilled about him.
I know, a Jacksonville Jaguar fan. Since 2000 they have two playoff appearances, one playoff win, and 3 winning seasons. But they just drafted Blaine Gabbert! At least they still got MJD.
How about an Oakland Raider fan? Since 2000 they have 3 playoff appearances, 4 playoff wins, a Super Bowl appearance, 3 winning seasons (doesn't sound so bad so far right?), and 7 straight years of winning 5 or less games (there it is). But they're 4-2 and playing well. And they just gave up possibly 2 first round picks for a has been QB. Did I also mention they went 7 straight years winning 5 or less games?
Sound off Kansas City Chiefs fans. Since 2000 they have 3 playoff appearances, no playoff wins, and 4 winning seasons. But they have.........oh nevermind.
Washington Redskins? Since 2000 they have 2 playoff appearances, one playoff win, and 2 winning seasons. John Beck is their starting QB. Need I say more?
Carolina Panthers? In their short 17 year history they have 4 playoff appearances, 6 playoff wins, a Super Bowl appearance, and only 4 winning seasons. But they have Cam Newton! Leading them to a 1-5 record.
I know let's ask a San Francisco 49er fan! If anyone could relate to a spoiled bunch such as ourselves, it's them! Since 2000 they have 2 playoff appearances, one playoff win, and 2 winning seasons. But they won 5 Super Bowls in the 80's and 90's, so they're still riding that high. Yeah, sure they are from 1994.
So get a grip people!! We've not had it half as bad as some other fans around the league. We should be fortunate that even during our worst times we've still been a competitive enough team that put forth a team the fans could actually have some hope could become a playoff contender. Most of these other teams fans can't say that. By no means am I settling for mediocrity either, but I'll be damned if I'll ever root for my team to lose just for the sake of draft position. We have the talent on this team to compete with any team in this league. I just don't believe we have the leadership to direct that talent and get the most out of it. Yeah, times are a little rough right now. But sit back and think about how much worse it could have been. Did I mention the Raiders went 7 straight years losing more than 11 games a year??? For comparison, we only have 3 years in the entire 46 year history of our franchise where we lost 11 or more games.
