I've never posted a FanPost, but have been here for a couple years now. I figured I'd try to convey the reasoning for SFL to answer Mosul's post about not understanding some people in this.
But first, I'll say even though it's funny and catchy, the "Suck for Luck" saying does bother me sometimes because it makes it seem like people wanted the team to suck from the start, which isn't true. Also makes it seem like people think their teams are tanking on purpose (not just the Phins), which also isn't true obviously. The team just sucks and fans want the #1 draft pick because they hope it will give them their very own Aaron Rodgers.
Now, even though I want Luck on this team in 2012, we get angry that they do suck because we didn't want it to be like this. Now I personally am not too mad after losses anymore, because I just don't care right now if it means us having a future as a relevant franchise. But it does upset me sometimes. We've been a joke since 2004, it's gotten old now. However, it still sucks that the team is a mess and our football season is already over and ruined. That's why people still get angry even if they are "SFL". Before the season we wanted them to go around 10-6 and make the playoffs....not be discussing Andrew Luck and all the other College QB's. It sucks even if we don't care when they lose now.
The nightmare will be over in 3 months though. I assume we'll have a Top 3 draft pick. I'd just rather have #1 than #3. Luck looks like the real deal, from watching him play and watching him in interviews. He's no Leaf or Russell, if he doesn't become a Franchise Elite QB then I would be utterly shocked. I'd be happy with Jones/Barkley/Griffin...but Luck would instantly make us relevant again. We would get an A+ draft automatically. Now, he'd have to live up to that...but you put your chips all in if you want the Dolphins to become a proud, relevant franchise again like they were from 1970-2003 (I know those Wanny years were rough, but at least we were consistent playoff contenders, so I include them. A lot better than what we are now.)
I will be incredibly happy if we can just win a playoff game next year. Haven't seen that since I was 12. I don't even know what an AFC Championship Game looks like with the Phins in it. If it takes me sitting through a 1-15 or 2-14 season this year so we can have that top pick come April, then so be it. There's only 3 months left in this painful season anyway. I'll suck it up and move on right after week 17. If we don't get the #1 pick, this season will have been even worse and will linger until the 2012 season starts, trying to see if one of the other QB's works out. Luck would bring hope right away. And that's all we have right now.
Also, we know he doesn't play every position. So you hope whatever coaching staff comes in here and knows they have the #1 pick (if we get it), stays in touch with Luck to "woo him" and plans to draft him, and figures out how to build around him with draft picks(that #33 pick is like an extra 1st rounder) and free agency. And uniting the current players that return, because they look defeated right now. There's talent, but the wheels have completely fallen off.
Here's to a brighter 2012 season and a return to glory. It begins in the winter when that new staff comes in here. I'm sick of the Fins being a joke and a punchline, and so should you. Doesn't mean you have to cheer against them, because it doesn't have any effect either way. This is long, I'll **** off now.
