Enough is Enough...Everyone needs to read this!
First off, to all those claiming we need to draft Ingram or Julio Jones or anyone else not a QB or OL in the first round, GROW A BRAIN. With the current CBA, we actually will be having the draft before Free Agency this year and you have to be blind not to realize that no matter who you have at RB with the exception of maybe Barry Sanders and AP, they are not going anywhere behind our O-line. That and QB are the most important positions on the offensive side of the ball and we have to fix that up before we start trying to find a RB to hand the ball off to. What good does it do when he is being hit 4 yards behind the line of scrimmage. So enough, very very good chance that we trade down like we did last year and pick up a 2nd rounder and end up with a late first rounder. Expect atleast 2 picks to be devoted to O-line this year.
Secondly, I spoke with Jason Ferguson, and he told me that the whole team believes in Tony Sparano. He also said that the problems on the offensive side of the ball were BOTH Henne and Hennings fault and just as we are awaiting a new OC, we should definitely expect a new QB at some point in the offseason but that rebuilding the O-line is just as much of a priority.
Finally, STOP! thinking and saying we should sign Vince Young! The guy has zero work ethic and Tennesse actually has one of the best RB's in the NFL and a good O-line and he still couldn't get it done. Not considering their OC is one of the best i the league. Vince will not be with Miami because we need a pocket passer, plain and simple.
This team will be improved, a lot of crap went down but Tony will learn from his mistakes. This will all be a big wake up call to him and just like others said, when a player isnt cutting it, we look for a replacement. No different with a head coach. We benched Sean Smith and when he came back he was our best cover corner.
Oh, and incase you guys still don't realize how important fixing our O-line is, look at what the Jets did last night. Sanchez was awful and couldn't throw an accurate pass to anyone. So what do they do, they run and run and run and completely take Manning out of the game and control the line of scrimmage without any sort of problem. When you have that kind of ability, Defenses have no choice but to single up on the Wr's and then what do you know, Braylon and Holmes are 1 on 1 and are making plays. EVERYTHING STARTS WITH THE O-LINE and it shows that even with a QB struggling, the O-LINE saves his ass by letting the offense run the ball at will. This is why Sanchez wins and Henne doesn't because they don't ask Sanchez to win them game after game, they ask Mangold, Woody, Ferguson, and Brandon Moore too.

agree with most..
while i do agree with some points, i dont know how u can close the door on someone who is 30-17 as a starting QB in this league in Vince Young…sorrounding a player like that with a new culture of tough work ethic could be a recipe for success…regardless you could still draft a guy and see what you can get with someone like Vince…
And I think we all know that the game starts at the line of scrimmage both sides…but even so, you still need playmakers to make something happen..
Personally I would draft Ingram or Mallet who ever is available…I believe Ingram could be one of those special RBs in the NFL…but thats my opinion and likewise I respect yours…
Good Post nonetheless

oh and btw
i think we havent seen what Henne can develop into yet…people are talking smack after only his 2nd full year in the league…I ask, where was Elway and Drew Brees in their 2nd year?
Elway: full 2nd season was the 3rd he played in….
22 TDs 23 INTS and a Rating of 70.2
Brees?
11 TD 16 INTS rating of 67.5
QB’s need time, plain and simple…
Henne?
15 TD’s 19 INTs rating of 75.4
Not saying he will be anywhere near as good, just saying that you don’t close the door that quick…
just my 5cents

Like i said before with a running game like flacco, ryan, sanchez, and bradford have he wud be a lot better. But still have yet to see that if he gets all that will he have that it factor.

I hope he's given the opportunity next year...
yea we could draft a QB (mallet), sit him one year and let Henne go out there with a New running game and Offensive Coordinator..

I applaud your optimism
but wake up, Henne is awful. Sure, our scheme and coordinator and even TS takes some blame. But to compare him to Brees or Elway is a joke. The differnce between those two and Henne is that even when they weren’t good enough they were never afraid to pull the trigger and make a tough throw. They just learned from mistakes and got better.
Henne’s problem can’t be fixed. You either have moxie or you don’t. And he obviously doesn’t. Look at his 4th qtr. stats.
We all hate Mark Sanchez, and he sucks, but at least he has balls when it counts. I’ll give him that much.
Living in Ohio I watched Chad Henne for 4 years in college. He came out huge is Freshman year, and never really got any better. He has a low ceiling. I’m afraid this is as good as it gets.
How is it a joke?
Those Qb’s looked just as bad as henne back then (if not worse)
Henne’s moxie wut. 4th Quarter consistency comes with more experience.

Moxie doesn't come with experience
you either have it or you don’t. He’s not a killer and never will be.
Name the big game he won in 4 years of college: there was 1 – a bowl game against Florida. He was 0-4 against OSU by the way, and that was back when the teams had equal talent
He made a bunch of comebacks last year
Why does everyone seem to ignore this?
Wanna know a guy that ‘almost’ never comes back, and loses ‘nearly’ every close game he plays in? Aaron Rodgers. He’s just now starting to figure it out. Took him a while.

when you are coached and told not to take chances, you don't take chances. plain and simple.
It’s been documented about the coaching staff’s tight leash on Henne so quit saying that he cannot be coached into something different. if the coaching philosophy changes, I think that he can be productive, and Tony is absolutely right, O-line is the baseline for the performance of both QB and RB. Its not an excuse it’s pure truth and fact!!!

Chip Kelly -Oregon head coach for next Dolphins coach Bandwagon
Then why was Thigpen willing to take more chances?
Thigpen has moxie, he just unfortunately isn’t that talented.
I agree with the o-line comment, except the o-line doesnt throw it into double coverage. Did you watch the Lions game???
When everyone refers to Henne’s best game, we all talk about the Jets game 19 games ago. So there has been NO improvement in the past 19 games, and you can argue there has been regression, and it’s all the coaches, o-line, and rb’s fault? Really????
And when tyler and BM went outside the play called they were admonished, and who knows
That may have been what led to tyler being re-benched in the game. I would say the raider game was a pretty awesome game, in fact it was the last awesome game the team had. Henne’s numbers:
VS. Oakland:
Miami Dolphins Comp Att Yds Pct Y/A Sack YdsL TD Int Rating
Chad Henne 17 30 307 56.7 10.2 3 22 2 1 100.3
VS. Jets:
Comp Att Yds Pct Y/A Sack YdsL TD Int Rating
C. Henne 12 21 112 57.1 5.3 5 51 1 0 87.8
SO tell me, what about Chad’s performance in his “best game” is better than against oakland aside from the zero INT’s??
2011 - The Year of the Dolphin
Chip Kelly -Oregon head coach for next Dolphins coach Bandwagon
even against Detroit his Comp % was 65.9%
How is that regressing?

I was referring to the Jets game from 2009
hence my remarks about it being 19 games ago. Of course he has a high completion percentage – all he does is dump it off half the time.
Making progress or regressing isn’t necessarily about stats, its about decision making and winning games.
But since you went there, Chad Henne is the 31st ranked qb in the NFL in 4th qtr. passer rating – the benchmark of measuring qbs
I want him to be good and I wish he was the answer, but you and some other people need to wake up from this pipe dream. You watched the games this year – including Detroit, you know the one where he threw 2 bad ints when we were up by 10???
Just accept it and move on.
those are the stats from the jets game 2009
and he is not the only person on the team. To lay blame solely at his feet is just ignorant!!! Accept that and movee on
How many drives went unstopped against Detroit? How many dropped picks this year by the defense? How many dropped passes by the receivers how many fumbles by the running backs? how many holding calls that negated a big offensive play???
wake up and smell what you are shoveling!
2011 - The Year of the Dolphin
I know he is not the only one to blame
but he sucks!!!!!! look at his 4th qtr. stats. He is not good. Period. All we needed was an average quarterback, and he couldn’t even give us that. He never got better in 4 years of college, and he is not getting better now.
Because Thigpen and Marshall were purposely ignoring the calls, and Thigpen has literally nothing to lose

Interesting Snapshots...
This is an interesting point, but all 3 of these QBs have something that Henne (at least from my perspective) severely lacks. That one thing is a complete game changer, and it’s what most of us call “PASSION”. The man never displays emotion. You never see a shot of him beating himself up on the sideline when he throws THE SAME INT on THE SAME ROUTE that he’s thrown all season. You don’t see him walking up and down the sideline encouraging his team. You just don’t! That single point will cause the comments that you get from Marshall (and others). Passion, is a crucial leadership quality that Henne clearly lacks. Sure he has plenty of great mechanics, but his passion, and ability to adjust and improvise are severely lacking.
I could make the exact opposite point
very easily.
Passion isn’t something that Leaders should display on a whim.
They have to be calm and collected, they aren’t supposed to place blame on other people, that’s why you don’t see Henne blaming Brandon marshall for his double digit drops or Dan Henning for his bad playcalling or ronnie and ricky for their inept running.
Of course passion is important but we can’t say that just because he isn’t having a tantrum on the sideline every time he throws an int that he doesn’t care about the game.
He is a pretty young qb and some people lead in different ways.
Dan Henning is the sole reason the dolphins aren't a Superbowl Caliber team.

Peyton Manning shows passion etc. has only one 1 Super bowl

Dan Marino passionate etc. never won a super bowl

Everyone on the team, in the media, fans, EVERYBODY except for you and like 5 other people knows he isn’t good enough.
Disappointing.....
that most of you lack the openmindedness to find out whether Henne or someone else is the future. To throw stats out from single games here and there and say “He sucks” is plain crazy. IEphinfan threw out some great points about other qb’s that have turned out to be very solid. The fact of the matter is none of us know how good Henne is because he has not been put in a situation to be successful. When he’s had protection, he’s looked pretty good at times and like a young qb other times. The lack of a running game this year is inexcusable, and that is directly related to play calling. Hopefully, we’ll get a better idea this year.
by Rumple Pigskin1 on Jan 10, 2011 11:57 AM EST up reply actions
Openmindedness??
He’s had 27 starts!! In those 27 starts how many of them have been standout performances? Probably 2 (NYJ in 09, Oak this year)?? As I said before, the difference between him and the other “late bloomers” is that they always had moxie and he doesn’t. That is evidenced by his awful 4th qtr rating (31st in the NFL).
I agree with you about needing a run game. Look, I wish Henne was the answer, but at some point (it was the Cleveland game for me) you have to stop making excuses for him and just come to the realization that he is never going to be more than an average quarterback. I wish I was wrong but he keeps proving me right.
Calm and collected is what you need in the pocket.
Fire and passion is whats needed to lead your offense. Elway and Brees had those factors to give them the intangibles to will a team to win. There is only 1 way for a qb to lead and that is loud and clear. (ie P Manning, Brady, Aikman, Marino, Elway, etc.)

Agreed
I will have to agree that the offese will not work until the offensive line is fixed. We need depth and talent there before any player will rush for 1000 yards or a quarterback is able to pick apart the opposing defense. I never felt Henne was the guy, because i’m currently in Iraq and sometimes i have to use yahoo to see the transcripts of the game and they read like this.
-incomplete pass to the right by Chad Henne
-complet pass to the left by Chad henne to Brandon Marshall for 2 yards
-Rush to the left for no yards by R. Williams…………….ugh
we have dinked and dunked ourselves to a three and out with a whole two yards. Then when it is complete, it’s for less than six yards. So there might not be many to agree with us on this, but
1. OC
2.Offensive line
3. playmakers
4. in case wehave not by this time, new QB. We may not have much of an option on this one for now. We might be stuck with our damaged robot …………………………..just my 2 cents
Hennes ability shown thus far
to me, seems to be a result of the Offensive Coordinator and influence by that culture of playing it close and playing not to lose…
with an anemic running game and below average O-Line, he had several strong games…
I’m sure everyone remembers that Titans game where he went out there with an all or nothing attitude..I honestly think thats how he wants to go about it but was limited by not being able to audible, bad offensive coordinator, and the playing not to lose mentality…all that can be fixed…

I vote O-line as well, then RB,...
I think Henne has issues but with the combination of new OC, improved line, and upgrade to RB he should be,….OK ???? I hope,….
No running game and poor pass protection will make any QB look like garbage. Besides, I bought a white Henne jersey last off-season, I really don’t want to have to ship it home to hang next to my Ginn jersey.

I agree with you about the need at QB
however, we cannot ‘reach’ for a QB thereby wasting a 1st Round pick. If we cannot trade up into the top 10 and the top 4 QBs are gone by the time we pick at 15, I am all for trading down. I do not think there is a single player right now in the draft projected to be there at #15 that would solve ALL of our problems. We need multiple players to fill our positionS of need. Therefore, we really do need to consider trading down to add extra picks as a viable draft strategy. If we can get a OL and a RB out of the #15 pick I am all for it. I am aware this still leaves a gapping hole at QB but we have a lot of holes to fill and cannot afford to miss on our draft picks.
Agrred, i think a top center and guard can work wonders

I wouldn't claim we need to draft Mark Ingram,
but I certainly wouldn’t mind either. Ingram looks a special player to me, although I’m only going on highlights as I can’t follow the college game in London. Obviously the O-line needs some improvement, but luckily, we get the chance at more than one player.
The problem isn't the O-Line. The problem is the talent BEHIND the O-Line.
The OL is good enough. The QB and RB’s are not. That being said, drafting Ingram in the 1st round would be a huge mistake. RB’s are a dime a dozen, get one later on in FA. But whoever it is, get speed. Ingram isn’t fast enough. He is the same as Brown and Williams.
QB is where the #1 draft pick needs to go. Without a QB, this offense can only get marginally better. You say that Sanchez was horrible last night. I disagree. He was good, not great, but good. If the Phins just got good play out of the QB this year they win another 3 games. Instead they got horrible play out of the QB and finishing with a losing record.
QB is the most important position to address. None other matter until that position is fixed.

U couldnt be moe wrong. Sure we need an upgrade at qb but with no oline he has no time to pass, requires max protection meaning the rb cant go out for a pass but has to stay in and block and head coach TS said it all yr we have not gotten any second level blocks. Ol is a majorrrrr need

Henne had time all year and still didn't make enough plays. Pressure wasn't an issue.
QB was THE issue, not OL.
Long is a stud. Carey is a good RT. Jerry is a good guard and only a rookie this year he will get better. Incognito can be a good guard or center. The OL is missing one position.

John jerrry is not a good guard snd henne only had time bc he would audible to max protect leaving few receiving options who would b double covered. U need to b able to protect with 5 like most goid teams and allow urself another receiver in ur tight end or rb

When your backs are getting hit at the LOS or there's just no hole there's an O line problem
And this compounds the problem with the passing game. Henne had time but the coverage was too good because we had no running game,

Well my point was that if you feel that you need an upgrade at QB
then that becomes your priority. Your position would say that Henne needs to improve, but can still become a franchise QB. In that case, you would NOT think you need an upgrade at QB. However, he said that we need an upgrade at QB. If you think that, then filling the QB position becomes the #1 priority. You can’t say “We need an upgrade at QB” and then say, “We need OLs or RBs or WRs.”

We've had 15+ QB's since Marino...
There have been some bad names on that list, but also some serviceable ones as well. The problem is obviously something else. I think its our offensive philosophy – “Another successful 60 yard Miami Field Goal Drive” and as the original poster pointed out, our shaky O-Line.
Now I realize they were banged up all season, and some guys were playing out of position. But that just shows there is no depth at that position and the guys (God Bless Em) are just not good enough to swap around.
I’m glad Henning is gone, he sucked as an OC. But at the same time, I’m not sure its all that important. You look at the best team in the league right now, New England and their QB Tom Brady. The guy has 10 seconds every play to hop up and down while his speedy receivers are getting open. That’s called Pass Protection, and something Miami is going to have to learn if we want our QB to be successful.
I’m not a Henne fan. I think the guy is a complete CHUD. At the same time, I’d rather have Henne behind a solid O-Line, than Mallet, Young, McNabb, , behind Miami’s crappy line.
None of them were prized FAs or 1st round picks.

"drafting Ingram in the 1st round would be a huge mistake"
Doesn’t it really depend on how he does?
I would take Peterson with a 1st rounder, happily.
peterson's talent compared to ingram coming out is not compareable. AP was a top 7 pick...Ingram will be lucky to be taken in rd 1...
and based on our needs…we can find a RB like Ingram later but we need to trade down to get some O-line picks!
Jamarcus Russel was picked 1st.
Ok we have to speculate, but what I mean is, Ingram will, for some, represent a big talent, and I think he will go in the top half of the first round. If you can build a good O-line you can pick up a RB anywhere, but there are players with a bit more, who are worth a 1st rounder and Ingram could be one of those.
You contradict yourself
You use the Jets as an example of a team with a bum QB so they run the ball, but you also say we should draft a QB first and not a RB . I know our line was pitiful at run blocking this year, but two reasons we take a RB first, 1-Our RBs are also partially to blame for lack of production,2-In case you havent noticed there isnt really any overwhelming prospect at QB this year since Luck stayed in school. Oh and to add more reasons,to use your example – a RB like Ingram will make our bum Hennes job easier like LT does Sanchez. We can always improve our line play-Hell isnt that Sporanos specialty-O-LINE-PROVE IT!!!
There is no way on earth u can compare ingram to lt! Two totally diff rbs and one hasnt pkayed an nfl down and the other is top ten all time. And my argument why sanchez is able to throw to lt is bc they dnt need him to block since their o line is very good. We dnt have that good of an oline so either the rb blocks n we have less wrs open orrr henne gets pressured way too quickly. If the oline did their job rb can go out for more routes and henne wud have a check down option. Look at flacco n see how it works wonders for him. This also takes the pressure off the qb in trying to make tough throws which results in less ints

agree with you on all except
for the vince young part. Has a winning record as a starting Qb and he knows how to get the ball to his best receiver on the team, which is kenny britt. I believe he could do that with brandon marshall. also i spoke with a titans fan, and he says that outside of vince youngs attitude, he would be a good fit for miami. he has the running skills and passing skills all are which are better than henne’s. miami should look at him
I'm still confused.
Why do people think the dates for free agency are changing because of no CBA? There was no CBA last year and FA still went on as scheduled on March 5th. This year will be no different, although the date in March might not be the same.
I used to think I had a drinking problem.
So I stopped thinking.
we SHOULD sign VY cuz he wins games. period
who cares about his personality? the one and only season in which he started all 16 games, he went 12-4
every other season, in which he was having “problems” and got benched, the titans sucked
that says something
he wins games, and in the end, that’s all that is important
Miami's Superstarts: Brandon Marshall, Karlos Dansby, Vontae Davis (just wait), Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and Hanley Ramirez :)
They win in spite of him
who cares about his personality?
Did you really just ask that?? Apparently the Titans do because they are showing him the door. They are a non-playoff team and don’t even want him.
I would prefer a quarterback who actually works hard and got higher than a 17 on the Wonderlick!
i still have been thinking about draft options, and ways to pick up more picks
First off,we need to re sign a number of players this year. Langford,Solai,McDaniels are ALL key needs. After that,we need to ask CC to redo his contract,or trade him and Bell for a third rounder. Might be crazy, but move Clemmons to SS. Reshad Jones can handle the FS spot.
Trade back to the lower 20s,mebbe with Tampa bay,or someone that can add in a RB or another middle linebacker to take crowders spot. Truth is,I’m betting Misi would do good moved inside between Wake and Dansby,so perhaps OLB is key. If we drop down, even out of the first round,or trade our newly aquired second rounder for a second and a third,we can surely find depth for oline with 3 3rd rounders.
Leaving our first “and perhaps second” for skill positions, even OLB,Akeem Ayers dropped to the second round, hmmm…
this is a prime draft for tacklesboth on offensive and defensive sides of the ball,we could nab a replacement for starks, and pick up a second rounder maybe? Hmmm….either way,I don’t think this is the year we pick up a new qb in th draft. We need another outside pass rusher/te killer. Someone to take the pressure off Wake.
Henne will get a second chance, and I think we should give it to him. This offseason,if ireland doesn’t cut it,we need to go WAYYYY back, offer Marino a shot at player personnel. Ties to miami, and probably the best qb miami has ever seen. Let him give henne some tips how to lead.

Henne is not a starting qb and the players are not feeling him
Think about the receivers mindset right now and look at Henne’s overall understanding of a game. Reading defenses, blitzes, quick releases, extending plays, 2 minute threat, and quick reads are all the basics that Henne lacks. I say we either get a top 4 qb from the draft or a seasoned vet and hope for Luck next year. If top 4 qb is gone, vet qb it is and obtain OL help, speed back and receiver in the draft, which could help special teams and target Mankin, Lamar Woodley, Asomghua, and Jacoby Jones in FA. Woodley is the perfect compliment to Wake and Mankin would do wonders for our IL and Jones and Asomghua is the playmakers for both sides of the ball we need. Know it is stretching, but Ross don’t mind.
Damn the sheriff, Bring on MARSHALL LAW
build the line through FA
then use your first round pick on an offensive playmaker, you mention the jets. and 3 of their 5 starters were signed free agents. not drafted starters. i think miami already has their new center on board (incognito). and their are several good free agent LGs available. (the most notable being L. Mankins from NE). i do think miami miami spend atleast 2 picks on the offensive line, but not in first round. C’MON MAN!
im not as think as you drunk i am occifer.....
nothing wrong with taking a top guard or center in the late first round.
Look at the top centers in the AFC…all taken in RD 1..Mangold, Alex Mack, Pouncey…we need to focus on 0-line and get some studs, and last two times we took an o-lineman in rd 1 i think it worked out…I.E (Vernon Carey and Jake Long)
I agree with this article 100%
Everything on offense pivots on the OL and qb. Everything else falls in place.
