Hello fellow Phin Fans! Love the site, been reading a while and really enjoy the discussions (most of them). By way of background, grew up in New England as a Dolphin fan (yes taking lots of heat from the family), lived in various locations and currently reside in the middle of 'Skins country.
Quite a bit on my mind and will try to not repeat the obvious here.
Obviously the season was disappointing on many fronts, but the bright spot is the defense. The FO, for their faults, has done a great job drafting quality guys on the D. I think the future is bright if they can hold on to this core and I am talking about Solai, Wake, Misi, Davis, Smith, Bell and R. Jones. Lots of speed, enthusiasm and willingness to improve. Hopefully Ross can retain Nolan as well or that will be a let down.
The offensive side is obviously full of holes. I didn't get to see many games in their entirety here (damn the Ravens and Skins) but the two noticeable things are 1) the offense has zero speed. Zero. RBs are strong, powerful, but not game changers, anymore. The WRs are talented but slow. Bess is a great slot, but let's be honest, he isn't challenging Bolt to any races. Marshall can catch, sometimes, but he,too, isn't outracing the speedier DBs to the endzone. Hartline has potential and I like what I see from Moore and Wallace. I just wish we had seen more of the latter 2 this year. 2) the OL is a disaster. Let's face it. Henne is not going to get any good reads downfield when he has less than 2 seconds to make a decision. Look at Brady or Sanchez. They have eons to pick apart the defense and find the open man. By the time Henne is set, even in the shotgun, he has 2 maybe 3 defenders bearing down on him. His only sight downfield is that of an opposing nose tackle's facemask about to become one with his. Manning, Brady, Sanchez - none of them would be in the playoffs this week with the Dolphins OL.. So let's hope that the FO, whoever they turn out to be, can find some quality draft picks and maybe a strong FA and develop a suitable OL. If we had an OL like the Jets or Pats, we would be in the playoffs today.
Finally, a word about Henne. Now, obviously, everyone is disappointed with him and his progress this year. There are a few supporters remaining and I for one believe this guy needs a fair shot under a quality OC and QB coach. Henning, Lee and even Pennington (yes CP10!) have failed this guy. They have shut this guy down so much that it will take an entire shakeout of the offensive philosophy to get him back to where he should be as a starter in his 3rd (4th) year. Also, rather than throwing him under the bus, Marshall should use his talents and experience to help the guy rather than ham it up with the proverbial 3rd stringer on the sideline
So, that's all for now. Feel better now. I hope to be back soon.
Now go back to watch the atrocious HC saga unfold!
