Ricky Williams spills his guts - and it's not a pretty picture
We all love Ricky because, well, Ricky keeps it real. Tonight, Ricky told us all how he really feels about the Dolphins, his teammates, and head coach Tony Sparano.
This can't bode well for Tony's future, can it?
Seriously, give this a read. It's worth your time.

WOW Ricky, WOW
It’s not enough to screw our team over for years by retiring on us in your prime. We gave up two 1st rounders for you and if you give that for nothing it hurts! Can’t believe he thinks he can just say whatever he wants now that the seasons over. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
Too much?

we didn't give up 2 first rounders for nothing
we gave up 2 first rounders for 1800 yards and an MVP worthy season. He didn’t quit to spite you, and don’t act like you have any idea why he did.
And I don’t believe anything he said was false.

OK he didn't quit to spite us
And granted maybe what he said is true, but what the hell did he do about it? After last season Sparano reached out to him to provide more leadership….Where was all this during the season?
And doesn’t his backhanded ‘$50 million’ comment smack of jealousy? I don’t like stupid antics, but at least with Marshall you have someone who’s pissed we’re losing.
Let’s face it, we’ve been losing for a while, and Ricky’s been just fine with it as long as he has a contract…..
Just like the D got better when JT ran to the Jets under the guise of being run out, our O will get better with attitudes like Ricky’s gone…….(and of course, new coaching, QB, OLine……)

Reading that was like a dagger through the stomach
Ricky Williams has been one of my favorite football players since he was at Texas. I was elated when Miami traded for him, devastated when he abruptly retired, and ecstatic when he finally came back. Because I agree with almost everything he’s said here and realize he probably will finish his career elsewhere, it sucks as a mutual fan of the team and the player.

this says it all
im not saying that we are ok with out jason taylor but it exlains why he left as ricky is leaving, yes they are old but you do get a strong since of what is really going on not this year but for the last couple of years.with that been said if their is anyone with aright to speak out its ricky williams i can remember him been about 90 percent of our offense and the hits he used to take he honestly deserves more respect then he is getting he has never thrown any one under the bus for him to say this it means that something is seriously wrong in that locker room. i dont know what impact this wil have on tony sparanos future but if a decision hasnt been made this might be taken into account.
The difference between Jason Taylor/Joey Porter griping,
was that they weren’t happy with how they were being used with Wake getting snaps on passing downs. Wake! Who is behind Ricky and cutting into his carries? Nobody.

it’s time for Sparano to go. give us a coach who demands respect. who has earned respect. and one who will finally turn the corner on this decade of dolphins recline…..BILL COWHER.
im not as think as you drunk i am occifer.....
I heard his radio show today
He said he didn’t want to play for a team like the Pats. He also closed the show by saying whether he plays somewhere else or for Miami, he has to feel the situation out. So he at least is leaving the door open for a return if Miami gets a new head coach.
If what he says is true, and I believe it is, it's time for Sparano
to go. Ricky was not the problem w/this team. Love how he says he didn’t need to take any Advil this season. Henning/Sparano/Henne must all go!
Miami Dolphin fan since 1971. Still the only UNDEFEATED team EVER!
Wow
This can’t be good at all, especially in Sparano’s ‘turnaround’ plan included Ricky. If it did, then Sparano is pretty much cooked in Miami.
I hope whatever coach comes in takes it upon himself to make a Lovie Smith kind of statement and proceed to back it up. Something like beat the Pats, win the division and go to the SB. Beating Camoron in Baltimore would be icing on the cake for me. He’s had our number for too long.
Some of it's right, some of it's wrong
Let’s see…where do I start. I agree with most of what he said, but these are the points of contention that jump out at me.
1. The entire “winning tradition” tangent is bull. Sparano being too nitpicky is one thing, but he emphasized scoring in the red zone and not turning over the ball because the Dolphins FAIL to do those things. You can’t believe in a winning tradition and have confidence in your players if those same players aren’t demonstrating improvement. The burden is on the locker room to implement what Sparano ideas. You get the pat on the back afterwards, not before. Guys like Welker and Ninkovich don’t have good games because they suddenly buy into some abstract idea of confidence. Belichik just uses them well. His valuation of players is better than Sparano’s…and probably our entire front office. Sad but true.
2. Using Nick Saban, or at least the Dolphins version of Nick Saban, does not help Ricky’s case. We all know why.
Everything else seems okay. The description of Brandon Marshall is accurate, if the past is any indication.
I also agree with the fact that Sparano has lost the locker room to some degree. Benching your starting QB twice is a big deal. The boys probably hung their heads after each time. Henne will probably get one more year because the office will look to draft an RB in the first round, but this will never be his team.
And speaking of the RB situation, that’s probably the most interesting saga going on. If Ricky is giving hate speeches, it means he’s planning on leaving barring a coaching overhaul. If he’s leaving, then the front office is forced to keep Ronnie if they want to draft a 1st round RB (Mark Ingram). Someone’s gotta be there to teach him, right? I always thought it would have been Ricky seeing as he’s the healthier of the two.

I think this says alot about the situation
Sparano may or may not be gone, I guess it depends on what he sold Ross. But I think Henne’s days as a Dolphin may be over. If the guys around you don’t trust you and don’t believe in you, you are destined to fail. He said it all when he said NE has a QB.
ITs not a surprise he is frustrated, the running game was never used as regularly as it should have been and the splitting between Ronnie and Ricky became a mistake. Ricky was the better back, I am not sure how much better the run game would have been but I think it certainly would have had more impact if Ricky had been primary back.
Sparano also hurt himself by continuing to put Henne out there, he deserved the benching the first time and he was ok. He was awful the last few games and you keep him in there?
The whole thing was damning
I support and agree with Ricky….hopefully this REALLY opens some eyes now.

My problem with fans like you...
What the hell support does Ricky deserve? You’re too infatuated with the player to see the big picture….Ricky is a malcontent…..He’s given up on this team before…..Why weren’t these things said in the season? If the team wasn’t focused prior to Patsies, why wasn’t he barking at guys to get focused?
We can have our opinions about the coach, team, etc, but don’t overlook the bigger problem…..
ME ME ME players like Ricky (and JT)
Rookie Dolphins Fan Dylan Luc, born Oct. 26th, 2010..........Doing my part to increase the fan base......
While I agree with the sentiment about falling in love with a player
and using that to justify everything they do, Ricky is not the JT type. He is the exact opposite, actually. Ricky just wants to quietly play the game and have fun doing it where JT just wanted the spotlight. When a player who simply loves the game starts saying stuff like this, I feel like it holds more weight than JT who had already left this regime once previously in a media storm.
Still, it’s unnerving that he called out Marshall. He basically called Marshall stupid.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion...
I think Ricky did a great job providing his opinion. As a veteran who has seen multiple coaches for a single team, he’s had his share of ups and downs. For him to be so vocal about the current regime says a great deal.
It’s obvious by his comments that there is much more going on behind the scenes than we as fans will ever know. He made some good points…
1. After a while, the repetition gets old, and it falls on deaf ears, especially when you aren’t winning. (but, maybe Sporano harps on the fundamentals because we weren’t executing properly)
2. The whole world knows that we need a quarterback, enough said. (Andrew Luck looked pretty good tonight!)
3. I wonder what the rest of the locker room would be saying if they had the guaranteed money of B-Marsh? (and to anyone who points out that Dansby wasn’t saying anything, remember what side of the ball he plays on)
my own opinion…
Black Monday was surprisingly quiet on the OC front. Has anyone heard anything about Henning?
Later Ricky
I knew the season was doomed when I heard are motto, " Feed the wolf"….
I love Ricky. I love the guy. But let's not pretend his opinion is always consistent or reliable
or he’s easy to get on with for everybody – he’s a love him or hate him guy, a dreamer. He’s never gonna like a disciplinarian coach with limited charisma or ‘big ideas’ which is what Sparano is. Other players may not agree with Ricky on Sparano. But maybe they do, and Ricky’s speaking his mind for everybody because he’s not coming back. If this stuff is true, Sparano has to go or it’ll be the same shit next year. You can see they all agree on Henne by the body language in the huddle and sideline vs NE.
Ricky’s obviously hurt by losing, and he’s feeling like the team would have been better off in his hands than Henne’s or Ronnie’s. And this season he was right.
He’ll be a good second back for someone next year. Maybe NE or the Jets. God damn it…
And maybe he is just venting and will be more than happy to stay if the right guy is brough in.

Well, this will be a test for the FO
Now the FO has got two options:
1- make another Jason Taylor/Matt roth situation out of Ricky;
2- make an honest efffort to bring him back.
I, for one, would target Ricky instead of Ronnie, if I were to resign one, for the following reasons:
- he was more productive, this last year and the rest of his career,
- he was more durable,
- he is more entertaining,
- plays with more passion,
- the
sorry just hit the wrong button
I was saying:
- the Wildcat can be operated by Thigpen;
- the Patriots would sign him in a heartbeat and he would destroy us for as many years as he plays,
- we may get a higher compensatory pick if Ronnie is signed by another team.
- ricky is a honest and true person, opposed to so many money whores that populate the league.
Of course, after this rant, having Ricky come back would also mean that he bought into the FO plan once again, and that would be no small fact.
I hope they bring him back, I honestly do.

You'll learn this eventually
Everyone lies, so that’s 100%.
Way way way less than 50% of the population smoke weed. About 25% smoke tobacco so it will be more in that ballpark, certainly less and in certain age groups there will be virtually none, although some will do it in the future and some will have done it in the past. Wise people eventually learn how stupid it is (and makes you).
People should know that Ricky’s interviews with Sid Rosenberg are scripted and staged.
Ricky is a fringe personality and cannot be trusted.
Ricky has also always resisted discipline so it’s no surprise that he would criticize Sparano for this.
That said, Ricky seems to speak truthfully but he does not make any revelations here. He reports nothing that doesn’t exist on every team and in every workplace. What I get from this is: ‘you can’t please everyone’.
Lastly, Ricky has obviously seen the writing on the wall and it’s no skin off his nose to take shots at his former teammates and coaches.
Not at all
He was not honest when he ‘retired’. He was not accountable. Nothing to do with the herb……

Wow, I am awake with no need of coffee
1) Advil line is telling – The running game was nowhere this year and not being utilized has got to be part of the explanation as to why. The interior OL not playing very well is part of it and also a lack of a good lead blocker (I feel polite got worse) as well, but I wonder if that goes to use of practice? I am not an athlete so this is just guess work, but I assume practicing should also lead to some need for advil too.
2) My first thought was about Marshall was where the difference was, but it seems to be the fact that he waited to vent the monday after week 17.
3) I am almost certainly reading too much into it, but Ricky criticizing QB play is very damning considering the best QB he played for was Pennington (the best game managing QB in history but not a game changer at all). If, based on his standards, we don’t “have a QB”, that is bad
4) Now when I see Ricky I will be thinking “Shomer F-ing Shabbos” :)
5) If he ends up on the Jets I will be physically ill. This is not a rational response, but a personal confession. Still, Sanchez may not be a QB either (though he has been relatively more sound in the 4th than ours has been – the Jets fans hate their OC though too)
6) Either way we needed new blood at RB. I will always be a Ricky fan. He made some bad mistakes and certainly much of the reason he won’t be a HOF is his fault, but he is also emblematic of the coaching/GM problems we have had for a long time. He could have been more if he was put in a better situation.
"The first thing I do when I get out of bed and feel the jolt in my knees is think of Roy Winston. On the second step, my calcified Adam's apple starts bobbing, and I think of Carl Eller. Thats why I’m going crazy. You can’t put this all on Sparano’s head. The player’s have to share the load too. After all the team has gone through with Ricky, he never stepped up and became a leader.

Ricky is one of the classiest guys on the Phins, one of the classiest in the NFL. He has had substance abuse and personal problems, but when given the opportunity to play he has always conducted himself with class. I really don’t think there’s a team out there that want’s him though.sparano’s situation is coming to light a little more with these comment’s too, but not sure ross is going to drop the axe. he had 3 hours to do it and we have’nt heard shit.tony’s philosiphy to not lose sucks, maybe he got an attitude adjustment in that meeting but don’t bet on it. I just hope the ‘11 season is’nt another trip into mediocracy.
Marshall's response from PBP article
But Marshall said he wasn’t upset with Williams’ comments about him, Williams said Marshall "makes it difficult to like him and support him" when he takes his gripes public, which he did in the last couple of weeks about Henne.
"It’s not necessarily what he says, it’s when he says it and the way he says it," Williams said.
"I agree," Marshall said. "That’s where I need to grow and what I need to work on this offseason. … Just picking the right time to say things and how to say it."
"The first thing I do when I get out of bed and feel the jolt in my knees is think of Roy Winston. On the second step, my calcified Adam's apple starts bobbing, and I think of Carl Eller. A few more steps in the dark and it's Willie Lanier. By the time I get to the bathroom, I'm flashing back to Dick Butkus and Ray Nitschke. And when the light finally comes on, I just hope that somewhere in the darkness they're thinking of me, too" - Larry Csonka.
He played before my time but one of the toughest SOBs to ever play!
Wow. Well I respect a man that can admit that he is wrong when called out on the mat like that.
Not the response that I expected but glad to hear it.

no, i dont like that he said that
nor do i like the fact that he will not be on our team next year.
however, ricky’s right, and if i were him, i would also leave and play for an offense that would utilize me correctly

What does this accomplish for the Miami Dolphins?
I agree that the stuff Ricky said certainly seems to be accurate. The thing is, nobody who was paying any attention needed Ricky to say it. We already knew it.
It was obvious Henne lost his teammates.
It was obvious the offense was under-prepared for games down the stretch.
It was obvious players were unhappy with where things were going.
It was obvious we had largely given up on the running game.
It was obvious the New England franchise is doing something right that we’re not.
It was — and always has been — obvious that Coach Sparano likes to get down in there and coach the details, and that he preaches from the Gospel of Parcells that the keys to winning are not turning it over, converting third downs, and scoring when you get in the red zone. (There’s nothing wrong with any of those things, of course. Except that they aren’t enough. Doing those 3 things does not equal wins, contra the coach. You have to do those things and a lot of others to win in the NFL. For example, it really helps a lot if you score touchdowns when you get in the red zone, which is what makes the field goal fist pump so grating.)
I don’t disagree with Ricky about any of that stuff. He’s completely, 100% correct about all of it.
But here’s the thing: since all of it was already incredibly obvious, what does he accomplish by him saying it to the media? It seems to me, as a Miami Dolphins fan, that all this does is make it harder for my team to get better next year. And that pisses me off. If you don’t like it here, take your ball and go somewhere else. No hard feelings. Really. You’ve earned it. But don’t torpedo my team on your way out the door.
Then there are the things I think Ricky just got flat wrong. Who in the world thinks all you have to do is create a positive attitude, and execution will take care of itself? I’ll answer my own question: no successful coach or player in the history of sports, that’s who.
And the glory days he remembers as a kid in San Diego were year after year of playoff futility. Sometimes it was fun to watch; I mean really fun. But it was still futility. If Ricky wants to be on a team that’s almost good enough to make the playoffs every year, or almost good enough to win one game when it does get there, all he has to do is look in the rearview mirror; he played on several of them in Miami.
If Ricky wants to go back there, godspeed to him but I certainly hope it’s not with the Miami Dolphins. That’s not where we want to go. That’s where we’ve already been.
