My 2011 Dolphin wishes
Wow, can you end a season any worse?? Now that the pain is over we will all be sharing our thoughts and wishes for the Fins in 2011. Here's my take:
1. A new coach. It's not that I really dislike Sparano, I actually think that he's a decent coach in most respects (clock management excluded). It's just that he's a Parcells guy and I think that the Parcells "system" doesn't work in todays NFL. Plus it's boring as hell to watch. I don't think that simply getting a new OC will change that either.
2. A new GM. Looking back at the last three drafts, what do we really have? The hit to miss ratio by this front office is terrible. Gibril WIlson, Jake Grove, Pat White, Pat Turner, Henne, the whole OL besides Long, etc.
The hits have been no brainers: Brandon, Jake, Karlos. Cam Wake and Davone Bess are the only real finds, and many front offices knew about Wake, we just were lucky enough to get him.
3. An O Line. Like, a good one. Long is the only "good" player on the whole unit. Carey is decent, same with Incognito. Berger sucks, Jerry is raw and could develop. Pat McQuistan? Really? I understand the injuries, but that happens in the NFL, we have no depth.
4. A first round draft pick that gets me excited. It would be real nice to watch the draft in April and say, "Wow! I can't wait to see what this kid's got!" Ryan Mallet anyone?
5. Speed. Not the truckstop kind, and not that crap Fergie was on, but real speed. The kind that you can't coach. The 2010 Dolphins were a Big 10 team, and we all know what happens to Big 10 teams when they play the SEC. How good would Bess and Marshall be with a speed merchant (nobody uses that term anymore!) spit out wide? How about a 3rd down scat back that can bust a short pass into a long one? Sounds exciting to me!
6. Any linebacker not named Crowder. I am soooo sick of this guy, he talks all day long and never backs it up. He also doesn't seem to realize that the fans pay his salary, so when he says that he doesn't care about/need the fans... Sit down Crowder, you sir are no Karlos Dansby.
7. Improved safety play. Covering, tackling, hair styles, the whole nine yards. There is some potential on the roster, but they need to be coached on up, and step up.
8. A good f*&%ing TE. Fasano isn't it. The Pats got both Gronkowski and Hernandez in the draft last year, and both of those guys look GOOD. Who did we get? Oh yeah, Mickey Schuler. The football hit him in the face today, or was that Mastrud? Does it matter or just prove my point? Nice job front office.
9. More pass rushers. Wake was on his own this year, the only other time we got pressure was when we brought safeties. What happened to Starks this year?
10. Lastly, duh, a QB. I have officially given up on Henne. I have thought long and hard about this one, and I have considered the "sophomore slump" but I don't think he has it. He's too inaccurate, he doesn't make decisions fast enough, he doesn't put his receivers in position to make plays. I think that he has lost this team. Cut Bait.
I understand what all of this means, it's starting over, AGAIN! We've been starting over since Don Shula left. I'm sick and tired of it, as are all of you. I will always be a Dolphins fan, I will always support the team, but it got painful going to these home games. They were no fun, it felt like I was back watching John Beck and Cleo Lemon all over again.
I won't be surprised if Sparano is back, I would actually be surprised if he got fired. Maybe he can turn it around, but if a Bill Cowher or Jon Gruden is out there it could be exactly what we need.
Happy New Year everybody, let's hope that 2011 holds more that 2010 for our beloved Dolphins.

Had me agreeing with you until your closing.
Never heard of a bad book being blamed on the publisher. Sparano is the author of this chaos, so lets pen blame where it belongs.
Damn the sheriff, Bring on MARSHALL LAW
Number 1.
A new coach. I agree, sparano and the FO is to blame. Are you a poet?

For Head Coach
How about Oregon Head Coach Chip Kelly??? I love his aggressive nature and killer instinct ala Belicheck

He's not leaving Oregon anytime soon.
I used to think I had a drinking problem.
So I stopped thinking.
I'd take that Duck kinda fast.

Jup, from what I can read in this is that
Ross is the failure. He needs to go.

Not sure
He was saddled with Parcells when he bought the team, and it paid off for a year. I think that this offseason will tell us what kind of an owner he is. Will he put his stamp on the organization or will he submit to the tuna???

Well, now that there's only one tuna in town, I will do my best!
But I agree. Ross didn’t make billions (in NYC property) being timid. I just hope he hires football savvy advisors.

Right now, I am just praying that Blaine Gabbert decides to make the leap to the NFL this year
If he declares, he’ll be there when we pick, and he’s absolutely everything we currently don’t have at the QB position: smart, accurate, mobile and a leader. Right now, for me, it’s Gabbert, Mallett or Locker. Let’s get our guy and protect him with the best left tackle in the business. And it’d be nice to move back up into the second round and find a franchise center (unless the next regime, presuming we clean house, decides that Incognito can be a full-time starter at the position).
Gabbert, Mallett or Locker in the first round, and then move up and get Wisniewski or O’Dowd in the second round. After that, look for a couple of interior OL guys and some speed merchants who can help us stretch defenses.
Draft Blaine Gabbert!
I've never won a Matty, so I'll give myself the "Classic Marino BALLS" award. Thanks to all who voted for me.
Sparano has to be let go
All week you read and heard how much he gets his players inspired to go out there and that they respect him, but today it looked like they quit on him totally. He looked dejected walking on the sideline. He is the puppet master behind all of this and if he is around next year I truely believe it will be another season of trying to see if Henne can get better, and I think that I might break my TV if I have to watch that again.
Lukephin got that right!! Sporano has lost this team!!
After the last 3 games, it is clear Sporano has lost this team. I feel bad for the guy. He is nice enough and it isn’t all his fault. However, he seems to be too conservative and has too much confidence in the status quo!
He celebrate FG’s rather than EXPECT TD’s, He rarely takes chances on offense. He stayed with the special teams coach way too long and he never really used Marshall the way he should have after paying him the big money. You can’t be 1-7 at home with an anemic offense and expect to keep you job with a new owner who expect results especially after signing 2 big time Free Agents!
Maybe once we get Cowher he can hire Sparano as his
O-Line coach. On second thought I don’t want him coaching our O- Line next season after the crap we had this year. Time to clean house Mr Ross.
Miami Dolphin fan since 1971. Still the only UNDEFEATED team EVER!
I want a guy who is ready to start now. Sure he’s not the greatest QB in the world but he can fling it around the yard and has had huge statistical success with Marshall. It would take the handcuffs off this offense. For TEN YEARS, we’ve been taking the check-down passes, been unable to overcome a 10-point deficits, and dealt with 8 guys in the box cause our passing game can’t make plays.
QB – Orton
RB – Ronnie?
WR – Marshall, Bess, Hartline
TE – Fasano
OL – Long and maybe a draft pick and other upgrades
I’ll take that offense. Will it be a well-oiled machine like the Colts or Patriots? No. But will it be able to convert a 3rd and 15 or….ya know….actually SCORE TOUCHDOWNS?? I think so.
Surely its not worth your life!

And if Orton isn't avaiable....Kevin Kolb
He’s never looked overly impressive. But the fact that Andy Reid was ready to go with him as the starter prior to Vick’s breakout says that he’s ready. Reid is good at evaluating talent.
They are both better than what we have right now.

Wake goes nowhere. Write it down. You heard it here first.

We need to lock him down for four or five years.
He was an older rookie in 09 because of his time in the CFL. So he won’t be great for a long time.

We will. I think maybe a 4 year deal with a 5th option year for the team.
