I'll be honest...I had high beliefs we easily had a top 5 O line this year...
even cracking top 3…but its looking more like a weakness more than ever. I’m having a hard time believing other than our tackles wont be able to win their matchups throughout the game.
Justin Hartwig I believe
I don’t think he’s signed yet.

thanks. hmm...is he healthy?
could be an interesting addition to our roster. but they resigned Proctor, so I don’t know what’s that supposed to mean.
He is healthy,
the only reason he lost his job is because Pouncy is awesome.

We screwed up when we couldn't get the Ravens center that yr
Grove was consolation.
but still. He has to be better than Berger right??? That guy is a career backup
Wanna prove you are a true heatfan? Remind people you lived through the Mark Blount era
This year seems to be different
In the two previous years, we’ve taken average players and expected them to become great. Now we seem to go after top players at premium positions. If Brown were available this year, we may have gone after him.

Wanna prove you are a true heatfan? Remind people you lived through the Mark Blount era
Brown was a FA last season and was the best FA center out there... He signed with the Rams
He wanted big money and we weren’t inclined then to pay that. If you look at the signings of the past, we took Wilford, Gerbil, Grove, and Smiley. Smiley is a good guard, but health will ultimately shorten his career. He having trouble seeing the field with Jacksonville. The other 3 guys were average players at best that were asked to come in and become a star. This off-season, we traded for Marshall and signed Dansby. Both guys are premier players at their respective positions. I think there has been a slight shift in the FO thinking. We know we can’t pay for all the big time players, but in areas of need, they will go out and get great players now instead of taking average players and hoping they pan out.

And one thing else about this deal: Grove went into TC as the starter and couldn’t hold off a career back in Berger. Berger may have improved, but if Grove was as good as advertised, then this shouldn’t even have been a factor.

Sign Big Kev...
Mawae is still looking for a job, right? Still thinks he can play. If he can be a backup and a coach-em up help on the O Line, then worth the vet minimum right? If we are questioning our QB play and keep Pennington as a “Coach/Player” would doing the same for our question mark O line, for less money be any different?
Yes, it would be different
Mawae is a Jet. No one wants to sign a Jet to come in here and be a Coach/Player…
Meanwhile, with Pennington…wait….nevermind.

theyre just stupid, stubborn, ignorant men, and theyve showed it all off-season. They have cut all of their depth now, and if someone gets hurt we’re screwed. Berger wont last the season as the starter, and our o-lines gonna suck.

i dont know whats going on
i dont know what these guys are doing unless they think some Hall of famer is going to be at the top of the draft next year and dont want to miss out. (joke). But one thing I will say is I was on here saying how signing jake grove was a HUGE misstake and how that contract was dumb. all I heard was to go be a jets fan and to trust this regime. So who was right now. ME. The guy we passed on for like 3 millions extra was the ravens center. dont remember where he went but what looks like the right move NOW.
its not we couldnt we didnt
its not that we couldnt get the ravens center they just said he was too much money. THATS a joke it was like 3 million diff over 6 years
I guess all of us against the Grove signing last year get to say "I told you so!"
That much money for a guy who couldn’t stay healthy never made and sense to some of us. Grove might be the most expensive mistake of this FO. Think about it this way, Grove earned $1.5 million per start ($15 million in 10 starts)! That’s like Manning, Brady type $$$. Hell that might be more!

first off - I have CLS
but the HitS in me says they will resign him tuesday because they didn’t want to pay him the 2.5m roster bonus i heard he got if he played in buffalo…
but we can debate the contract…. but the team ran the ball very effectively when grove is in there and not so much with berger…
and in watching the afc east games last year – he did move the NT…. which is what they paid him to do…
so i can’t challenge the signing… he was what we expected – a talented guy, who has a history of not playing a full season…
granted i don’t have to sign the checks, but i don’t see how the team is better with the ProctO vs grove…
it just seems like at some point during the last 7 days – mssrs ross looked at his bank statement and saw projected revenue for the team and told BP…. cut, cut, cut payroll and cut some more…. BP said good-bye and ireland is left to do the damage.

I don't know if it is a $$$ thing or not.
Parcells and Co don’t like players who can’t stay on the field. Grove got hurt last year. He couldn’t stay healthy during camp and missed time. I think that had more to do with things than $$$.
I don’t know if I agree with your point about the run game. Most of Grove’s missed games came after Ronnie was injured and Ricky was overworked. I think that had something to do with the run game falling off some. But I also think Berger is a better pass protector and for this team to get to the next level, it has to move away from being a power running team. Protecting Henne is the biggest concern (we both know we don’t want to see Pennington playing) of the OL.
"It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." MACBETH
"Walter, I love you, but sooner or later, you're going to have to face the fact you're a goddamn moron." THE DUDE (The Big Lebowski)
They say they like...
players who can stay on the field, but they signed Grove in the first place, despite his injury history. And Smiley. And now Rose, whose history seems to be worse than either of them.
That’s the puzzling part, to me.
as to the run game
not too sure about that… the grove goes down in the carolina game… which (ifrc) oddly enough is rick’s first start?? rick has a nice game rushing and even hilliard (who pretty much can only between the guards!!!) has a good game rushing….
after that game – the phins are pretty much unable to effectively run the rest of the year… now ricky was hurt at that point …
but there certainly weren’t the rushing lanes opening up like what occurred earlier in the year. so that has to be grove right?
and i’m not entirely certain that berger is really that much of a better pass blocker…
and i’m pretty certain the coaching staff felt that grove is the better option – since he was the starter in practice every day post the atlanta game…
The Future is now, stop the bandwagon and lets get the Henne train rollin, as we all hope that the 14th dwarf is the real prince charming.
