Dolphins officially announce cuts, release final 53 man roster...for now
After all the speculating and debating, the Miami Dolphins officially announced their roster moves - trimming their roster to 53. You can see the full list of players released by the Dolphins right here at the official site. Some of the highlights we've already discussed at length today. They include Pat White, Patrick Turner, David Martin, and Donald Thomas. Camp darling Nate Ness was also waived. And all told, the Dolphins had to release 20 players to get down to the 53 man roster.
It's interesting to note, though, that in that article on MiamiDolphins.com, they mention how David Martin could be re-signed after week one to a non-guaranteed contract. As I said earlier today, Martin's veteran salary would have been guaranteed for the year if he was on the team for the first week of the regular season. So I have a feeling we might see Martin brought back after the game in Buffalo - if no other team signs him first.
So as it stands now - and remember that things could change as the Dolphins scour the waiver wire for guys they might want to bring down to Miami - this is what the 53 man roster looks like:
Quarterback (3) - Chad Henne, Chad Pennington, Tyler Thigpen
Running Back (5) - Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Patrick Cobbs, Lex Hilliard, Lousaka Polite
Wide Receiver (5) - Brandon Marshall, Brian Hartline, Davone Bess, Marlon Moore, Roberto Wallace
Tight End (2) - Anthony Fasano, John Nalbone
Offensive Line (9) - Jake Long, Vernon Carey, Jake Grove, Joe Berger, John Jerry, Richie Incognito, Cory Procter, Lydon Murtha, Pat McQuistan
Defensive Line (7) - Kendall Langford, Jared Odrick, Randy Starks, Paul Soliai, Marques Douglas, Tony McDaniel, Charles Grant
Inside Linebacker (4) - Karlos Dansby, Channing Crowder, Tim Dobbins, Micah Johnson
Outside Linebacker (5) - Cameron Wake, Koa Misi, Ike Alama-Francis, Charlie Anderson, Quentin Moses
Cornerback (6) - Vontae Davis, Sean Smith, Will Allen, Nolan Carroll, Benny Sapp, Jason Allen
Safety (4) - Yeremiah Bell, Chris Clemons, Tyrone Culver, Reshad Jones
Special Teams (3) - Dan Carpenter, Brandon Fields, John Denney
Some guys who might be prime practice squad candidates for the Dolphins (if they clear waivers in 48 hours) include Nate Ness, Jonathan Amaya, Julius Pruitt, Ryan Baker, and Austin Spitler.
So what is your reaction to this final (for now) roster?

actually, he’s pretty stout against the run from the SOLB side. Misi to Weakside behind Wake?
I still think that Misi would be better as a RILB backing up Dansby than Anderson would be.

Maybe they view him as a player that will be good when he gets his chance. He just hasn’t gotten it yet, so he’s quality depth. He also looks like Marshall. So that might have confused them :)

but they did take LB,LB, LB, & LB and then a couple more LB’s in last years draft…
then they go to camp and pick up a LB and convert a DE to LB….

Quick thought...
Since this season is the year teams can dump any unwanted/unwarranted contracts (i.e. Girbil Wilson), I would consider contract amounts & contract structures to play a reasonably large factor in cuts made around the bubble. If you look at the moves our FO made today from that perspective, I believe you will see some definite impact!
I think thats been a huge affect on a lot of the cuts by a lot of the teams this year.

How many players do we have who ont his current roster who went undrafted?
Wake, Bess, Polite, Wallace, Moore, cobbs, M Johnson, Sapp, procter, denney, carpenter, Mcdaniel, Marques Douglas – That’s 13 on my count (did I miss anyone?) I wonder how common that is.
If Wallace and Moore pan out I will recommend that the phins never ever draft a WR again. .

not sure if your count is correct
this is all off the top of my head and may need to be corrected but IIRC
wake was drafted 4th round i think?? (was cut and then restarted his career in CFL
proctor might have been a 7th rounder by dallas
carpenter is a kicker and few are drafted
douglas is a vet and may/may not have been drafted but has played in the nfl for 5+ years - so that isn’t exactly collegiate scouting
same with Mc daniel only less time …. and if you count those guys you might as well throw in starks…
but yes a certain percentage of every roster is made of other teams chum

Drunk Canadians can still tell the difference between a $5 and a $50
The first one’s blue and the second one’s red. Comes in handy.

I wasn't talking only about collegiate scouting
Other than with WRs
If there are a decent amount of UFAs on a team then it may say something about the character of the guys the regime is looking for. People witha chip on their shoulder, tenacity etc. Wake fits the bill perfectly.
Starks was drafted by Tennesse if I recall. Procter was first signed by detroit undrafted I believe, but am happy to be corrected if that is wrong.
"The first thing I do when I get out of bed and feel the jolt in my knees is think of Roy Winston. On the second step, my calcified Adam's apple starts bobbing, and I think of Carl Eller. A few more steps in the dark and it's Willie Lanier. By the time I get to the bathroom, I'm flashing back to Dick Butkus and Ray Nitschke. And when the light finally comes on, I just hope that somewhere in the darkness they're thinking of me, too" - Larry Csonka.
He played before my time but one of the toughest SOBs to ever play!
We should be able to use our success as a recruiting tool to bring in the best UDFA's.
We have proven that it doesn’t matter where you were drafted, just how you play on the field.
Hopefully the league doesn’t take notice and add a couple of rounds back to the draft.
should be easier for the FO to tempt UDFAs
to join the team. There is a great chance you can make the team, if you perform that is.
"I likem me some UDFAs"
well if they have a longer regular season that means bigger roster which may mean more rounds in the draft
I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?

Our receiving corps is funny
Two fourth rounders and three UDFA’s. I can’t wait to see what these guys can do.
"Every island has a beach and mine there will be called Beast Beach."
Oh, no doubt
It’s just funny how a lot of teams build their WR corps with high picks, and we’ve got a bunch of capable guys who were either drafted late or undrafted. Although Marshall kinda skews that because we had to pay a lot for him, but nonetheless.

Another thought?
Should we, the Dolphins, be interested in the recently released TJ Whosyourmama? And if so, how much interest (money) do we pay him?

My take is that the best 53 in camp made the cut.
(but taking into consideration the various positions)
