Seattle cuts T.J. Houshmandzade; should Fins pick up

So it is reported that Seattle has cut wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Now, I know that he may have not worked out in Seattle and Cincinnati traded him away, but I think he is still a really good receiver.  I really like our current receiving corps and that would mean that either Marlon Moore and/or Roberto Wallace would not be active. But seriously having Marshall and Houshmandzadeh would be a fantastic. I don't think Miami would have to pay much to get him either. Not going to say much more about it, just wanted to see what other Finatics thought about it.

TJ's contract

Jason was sayinh he was getting paid a lot, which he was. I highyl doubt TJ would sign for the league minimum… that is wishful thinking. Either way, I don’t think Miami needs him or will consider signing him.

The point everyone is making is that his contract with Seattle is guaranteed this season so if he

signs for the min.with someone Seattle still has to make up the difference.

The problem with this plan

Is I don’t think TJ is looking for a one year deal. The signing bonus and future years would still need to be covered by the team signing him so it isn’t like they’ll get him for dirt cheap.

Thats true unless its all he can find out on the open market.

TJ's contract

I highly doubt TJ would sign for the league minimum… that is wishful thinking. Either way, I don’t think Miami needs him or will consider signing him. If Miami was interested in bringing another WR in, they probably would’ve been in the mix with San Diego trying to trade for Patrick Crayton. Being that Miami did not appear to be involved (likely would’ve been higher than a 7th rounder if that was the case), I don’t see why Miami would be interested in TJ. Crayton would at least fill that “deep threat” need people think we need.

I would!

I would man, but I’m not even in the country. Even if I was, I live in New Jersey unfortunately. I won’t be able to get to Florida again until December.

Seattle will have to pay him the difference between his new contract

and his old, so he will get paid 7 mill this year no matter what. If he signs for the league min and starts, it will be a great way to showcase himself for FA next year.

The problem...

As I said in the previous comment replied to Texas, the new team is still required to pay whatever signing bonus and future years on the deal. At 32 years-old, I don’t think TJ is looking for a one year deal because no matter how well he performs, he knows his options will be limited at 33. I’d be expecting him to look for a 2-4 year deal.

by Finhead83 on Sep 5, 2010 2:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Then he would be perfect for the Pats, as they love aging WRs

We shouldn't be interested, but if i were him,

i would sign for league min, as i’ll have $7 mil in the bank no matter what by the end of the season, to either a pass happy team where i’d get reps, like the Pats; a team that needs WRs because of injury, Vikings; or a team that needs a #2 WR.

To be honest I don’t think our problems will be resolved with another guy at wr. We got talent there. TE is another story, and defense we got serious holes. I hope we start reshad jones over clemons

what exactly has Reshad Jones done in the preseason to make you think he is the guy?

Or what exactly has Chris Clemons done in the preseason to make you think he isn’t the guy?

when does the season start.....

He's a 32 yr old possession WR

I don’t think that’s what we need.

We need a young speedster,

our offense can’t handle two 100 catch guys… not enough balls to go around.
If we pick someone up I think it will be a punt returner who is an occasional deep threat.

we would have great receivers

i dont really WANT it to happen, because he is gonna b expensive and not the type of WR that we need, but it would still be pretty cool to have Bmarsh, housh, bess

We have speed, size and youth...

And we have a young proven vet to show them all the ropes… I don’t see why we need to add and old posession receiver … what would we be gaining? Didn’t we just trade Camarillo?

when does the season start.....

I want to win now and upgrading any of our weaknesses should be welcomed

I think we all watched the pre season games and questions are still left out there. Every team in the NFL will be upgrading for the next few days.
