Here's some quick thoughts on the game
First and foremost Vontae Davis is a complete BEAST corner. Even the great Brett Farve knew not to try him. From day 1 I said Vontae was going to be a lockdown corner. Sure he has some better receivers coming his way later on in the season, but regardless Vontae can run, hit, and jump with anyone in the league. Here's a quote from Favre:
"Twenty-one, I felt like is one of the best corners in this league, especially that nobody knows about," Favre said, explaining why he took shots at Jason Allen instead. "Twenty-one, I was less apt to challenge."
And now the Jason Allen bandwagon is just about full. Many people called Allen a bust because of the fact he couldn't get on the field; not because of his play on it. Mix that with a defensive coordinator who knows how to utilize talent and you have yourself a player. Like Davis, Allen can tackle and cover (he had 11 of them today). I don't know if I can say Sean Smith would've done the same; because he is no where near as physical as those guys. Hopefully Smith keeps his confidence up, so that when he is called on he will be ready to perform at a high level.
After seeing Adrian Peterson get hot in the second half I started thinking about Channing Crowder. Would some of those runs happen if he was there?
So far Cam Wake is tied for 4th in the league with 2.5 sacks in 2 games. He forced a fumble on Favre and was active all day. I think it's time to get that whole "but but he played in the CFl" nonsense out of here. Ladies and Gentlemen Cameron Wake is an NFL player and a damn good one at that. Porter who?
The offense looked better than last week, but it still has A LOT of room for improvement. Other than that deep pass to Marshall the passing game was average. It was good to see Hartline improve from 0 catches, but he still needs to step it up. I'd be OK with Hartline's below average performance, if Davone Bess was tearing it up underneath like Wes Welker. But that wasn't the case. Marshall is getting doubled and there is no other receiver taking advantage of it. If anyone was going to benefit from Marshall's presence, I thought it would be Bess. We gotta fix that up REAL quick.
And what's up with our return game? Clifton Smith was a Pro Bowler 2 years ago, his lack of success so far should speak on our poor blocking.
