The HoF game is coming up tomorrow night and I'm trying to give myself a reason to pay attention beyond some extended recreational viewing. I figured a good way to tackle that issue is by focusing on our week 8 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. I traveled over to their pad on SBN, Cincy Jungle. They believe in their power running and they believe that it's the heartbeat of their offense. Carson Palmer might be the key to taking it up a notch but they really pride themselves on their run game.I'm no scout but I can recognize a good beating so I'll be focusing in on what seems to be the real key to their offense, the offensive line. Andre Smith's name jumps out to me but that's only because he's so fat that it's bloating his name as well. Their line seems to be a work in progress so in order to understand the week 8 matchup I'll be trying to get a feel for where they stand now.
On defense I'll be focusing in on the key to shutting down Miami, pressure and coverage. Get to Henne and equalize Marshall seems like a solid plan to me. You're not going to eliminate everything so if I'm a DC then I might neglect the run game in hope of at least eliminating the big play. So I'm focusing in on the secondary and the guys they use to rush the QB. Leon Hall and Jonathan Joseph are two of the best in the NFL so they should present quite a task for a Fins offense that hopefully should be dropping bombs by week 8. Their pass rush seems to be a work in progress so it'll be interesting to see who takes the lead role tomorrow.
We do play Dallas but it's in the final week of the preseason so really there's no reason to scout them for play purposes. Beyond that we could meet in the Super Bowl but that's certainly not something I'm concerning myself with now. What I am watching are former Tuna guys that might not be making the cut in Dallas or could simply be available now or in the future.
I know, it's a stretch but it's the first taste of football we've had in a while so I'm trying to create a reason to pay attention. It'll be nice to see Jerry Rice get inducted tonight and I'm sure we'll be seeing some legendary speeches tonight. Enjoy the the induction tonight and if you're like me then try to create purpose to watch the game tomorrow night. I'm not sure how long I'll last but at least I've got an excuse prepared for the little lady as to why I'm watching a Bengals-Cowboys preseason game.
