Tyler Thigpen will be a restricted free agent at the end of this season. He will be on his way to being 27 years old. He has started 11 NFL game
s and feels that he can be a starter again. There are a huge number of people on this site that say that the Dolphins should keep Thigpen as their number 2 QB, but doesn’t Thigpen have a say in this? The Dolphins have spent the preseason giving Thigpen playing time and game experience. The coach has said that he likes how Thigpen has performed and now it is up to the front office to convince him that he is not good enough to be a starter on any other team. They have to convince him that he should be happy with backing up a younger player and then they have to convince him that Pennington is not going to be here, or he is going to be a 3rd string QB.
The front office has to convince Thigpen to sign a two or three year contract and if all goes well he still will not have started another game. If you were Thigpen, would you go for this? And if you were the front office, what would you say to the young man to convince him?
In my opinion, there may be some interest in Thigpen, so the front office should explore their options and get what they can for him because I don’t see him staying if he gets a chance to compete for a starting job.
