What the Camarillo trade means to me

The Camarillo trade hurts. I will never forget the TD catch and run he made to secure our only win in 2007. Everytime I watch that video it makes me smile, like we won the Super Bowl. I for one was shocked when I heard this news. While it may have not come as a surprise since the addition of Brandon Marshall, Greg Camarillo did provide depth should an injury occur to Marshall, Hartline, or Bess. I have come up with two conclusions from this trade however.

#1. Our Front office is satisfied with our starting receiving core and has confidence in the depth.

Brandon Marshall is and will always be our #1 receiver as long as he is in Miami, there is no doubt about that. Bess has been locked as our slot receiver and will not change anytime soon.

Hartline and Camarillo were supposed to be battling for the #2 position, but since Hartline has shown much potential and is more athletic than Camarillo, it was really his job to lose. Camarillo did not show enough in camp to overtake that position.

Our front office has apparently seen enough progress in the other group to solidify them positions in the depth chart. While I am not sold on Moore and Turner, Sparano thinks these guys have what it takes to step in should an injury occur...and that's real good news.

#2. We are going to trade Will Allen

Before the trade we had 4 cornerbacks on the roster who have pro-bowl potential (Davis, Smith, W. Allen, Carroll). The fact that Will Allen and Carroll would have to be splitting time between Nickel corner shows that we had tremendous depth at the position. Add in Nate Ness and Jason Allen and the grand total for cornerbacks is 6! So why do we need a 7th??

Will Allen's contract expires after next season. He is 32 years old. In camp, he has not played up to the same level he used to. He is being outperformed by the youngins. He had had injuries and surgeries. He has had off-field issues.

All of these things are not in Allen's favor and the addition of yet another corner tells me that Allen, will be on the block soon. It's possible the Dolphin's are trying to retain the other second round pick they lost from acquiring Marshall. Is he worth it? He was, at one time.
