How will the AFC playoff picture turnout in 2010?

As preseason has come and will quickly pass, I thought an idea from Natalya would be a fun way to perhaps speed up the process. I was surprised no one jumped on this idea, as it should be fun and informal. First lets start with the basics, and break down the AFC by division and teams.

AFC East

AFC North

AFC South

AFC West

This post is strictly an opinion post, I, nor anyone else will get it exactly right other then by lucky guess. It's all in good fun, while trying to break down strength of schedules along with what team has the talent to win. My predictions will be pretty conservative, opposed to going with sleeper teams. Below is prediction on how things will turn out.

AFC East

  1. Miami Dolphins- 11-5
  2. New England Patriots- 11-5
  3. New York Jets- 10-6
  4. Buffalo Bills- 6-10

AFC North

  1. Baltimore Ravens- 12-4
  2. Cincinnati Bengals- 10-6
  3. Pittsburgh Steelers- 8-8
  4. Cleveland Browns- 2-14

AFC South

  1. Indianapolis Colts- 12-4
  2. Houston Texans- 10-6
  3. Jacksonville Jaguars- 7-9
  4. Tennessee Titans- 7-9

AFC West

  1. San Diego Charger- 10-6
  2. Kansas City Chiefs- 7-9
  3. Oakland Raiders- 6-10
  4. Denver Broncos- 3-13

Now here is my reasoning behind why I feel this will be the way things turn out like this.

AFC East

  1. Miami Dolphins- 11-5
  2. New England Patriots- 11-5
  3. New York Jets- 10-6
  4. Buffalo Bills- 6-10

I have the Dolphins tied winning this division for more then just homerism, their home schedule is very favorable and they are under the radar, while the Jets and Patriots soak in the lights emitting from the media. I have the Patriots finishing tied on the sole fact that they are indeed, the Patriots, and will be mentioned as a divisional favorite until they ultimately fall into the ground, which I don't see happening as long as Brady is under center. The Jets at number three, I do think the Jets are talented, but until I see that talent come together and play as a team I'm not buying into the hype. Also not to mention with all of the distractions with Revis, and with the series Hard Knocks. They will be a competitve team though. The Bills are fourth but will be a tough last place team, their record I have them at may not show it. But keep an eye on them.

AFC North

  1. Baltimore Ravens- 12-4
  2. Cincinnati Bengals- 10-6
  3. Pittsburgh Steelers- 8-8
  4. Cleveland Browns- 2-14

I have the Ravens winning this division even though they have had a rough off-season with their defense, Ed Reed will miss time, same with Sergio Kindle and Dominique Foxworth. But their defense will stick pack a punch, and their offense will be improved with the addition of Anquan Boldin. The Bengals are tough to predict right now, the addition of Terrel Owens might hurt more then it helps, and Antonio Bryant will most likey miss the season. At third I have the Steelers, the Ben Roethlisberger suspension and the injury to Willie Colon look to loom huge on giving the Steelers a tough time on offense, and losing wide receiver Santonio Holmes doesn't help either. But their defense should still be good with Troy Polamalu healthy, depending on how both teams handle distractions, you may swap the Bengals and Steelers, also considering the Bengals number one ranked strength of schedule. At last I have the Browns, I think defensively their not bad, drafting Joe Haden should help their pass defense, but their offense will be atrocious.

AFC South

  1. Indianapolis Colts- 12-4
  2. Houston Texans- 10-6
  3. Jacksonville Jaguars- 7-9
  4. Tennessee Titans- 7-9

Finishing first I have the Colts, why? Peyton Manning. Need I say more? Next the Texans, obviously their solid offensively as well, but with one of the toughest schedules in the league? 10-6 sounds fair to me. The next two teams are teams I have many questions concerning, the Jaguars have a solid running back in Jones-Drew, as do the Titans with Chis Johnson, but overall it is hard for me to see all around success offensively. How will David Garrard do this year? Will defenses find the blue print to stop Vince Young? Many unanswered questions to me. And some people may ask, the Titans in last place? Yes, Chris Johnson's ego has overtaken him, I don't see a repeat 2000 yard season, or anything even close, 1350 yards is my prediction.

AFC West

  1. San Diego Charger- 10-6
  2. Kansas City Chiefs- 7-9
  3. Oakland Raiders- 6-10
  4. Denver Broncos- 3-13

I have the Chargers winning this division but I think the gap between them and the rest of the division is closing, it all relies on the arm of Phillip Rivers, and I say he gets it done. The Chiefs are second and I think they may be a sleeper to win the division. Thomas Jones and Jamal Charles should make for a nice running game, and Matt Cassel has had a year in Kansas City as starter so should be improved. The Raiders will also be improved with the signing of Jason Campbell, but I don't see them as a contender just yet, with his biggest weapons being his tight end, Darius Heyward-Bey, and Chaz Shilens. The Broncos could be better as I predict them, but with the departures of Mike Nolan and Brandon Marshall, I do not think things will be very bright for Denver in 2010.

Now with that said, how the playoffs look with my predictions.

AFC East champions automatic berth- Miami Dolphins/ New England Patriots. (depending on tie-breakers)

AFC North champions automatic berth- Baltimore Ravens.

AFC South champions automatic berth- Indianapolis Colts.

AFC West champions automatic berth- San Diego Chargers.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AFC Wildcard berth- New England Patriots/ Miami Dolphins. (depends on tie-breakers)

AFC Wildcard berth- Houston Texans/ New York Jets/ Cincinnati Bengals. (depending on tie-breakers)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I said, this post is just for fun. It was an idea suggested by Natalya awhile back and I figured I would give it a try, please post what you think will be the way you think the AFC will play out this year and why. I used nfl.com to look at teams strength of schedules, and this is all strictly my opinion. This is also not counting future injuries that will more then likely happen that may make or break some teams.
