Phins Season Starts Tomorrow!!!

Well, after many months of waiting, we can finally get some news.Tomorrow the Dolphins will start training camp.

So, here are my top 10 questions going into camp (listed in random order):

1. How improved will Chad Henne be?

Should we expect alot from this second year starter? Well, our owner, Steven Ross, hopes so. He even went so far as to say "Henne will be better than the great Dan Marino." The addition of Brandon Marshall should open up the passing game for Chad Henne, but we will still be a run first team.

 2. Where's the leaders?

Matty, covered this on the front page today so just look at his post.

3. Can Sean Smith and  Vontae Davis live up to expectations?

The second year CB's come into training camp with high expectations, from fans. Sean want's to get his first pick this season, while Vontae worked on his technique this offseason. They have both changed for the better.

4. Can Koa Misi and Jared Odrick, hold off the veteran defenders for a starting spot?

Odrick went in the 1st round and Koa Misi went in the 2nd round, of the 2010 draft. They still haven't signed their contracts and I hope they sign today or tomorrow. With the season ending injury to, Phillip Merling, the spot has opened for Odrick at RE. But, with the signings of Marques Douglas and Charles Grant, look for a great training camp battle.

Koa Misi, comes in with a load on his shoulders. He will be replacing Jason Taylor and Joey Porter, if he starts. If he does start, don't expect double-digit sacks from him. But with Mike Nolan leading the defense, anything can happen.

5. Where will the pass rush come from?

Cameron Wake, the CFL standout, and probably our best pass rusher last year, had 5.5 sacks, with limited playing time. Reports say he has to improve against the run, but with his pass rushing ability, he should start.

There's also Charlie Anderson, Karlos Dansby, Channing Crowder, Tim Dobbins, Quentien Moses, Erik Walden, and rookie Chris McCoy. If Wake or Misi can't rush the QB, then someone listed here, has to.

6. How healthy will Ronnie Brown and Will Allen be?

With the lose of Ronnie Brown, we lost our playmaker in the Wildcat. Ricky Williams did well as Browns replacement, but slowed down near the end of the season. Will Brown be ready to take a beating again. He is our ticket to the Super Bowl this year.

Will Allen, was a mentor to the Smith and Davis last year. Allen was doing great, before he got injured. Davis had to step in and gave up big plays. I don't see Will Allen starting this year, but I see him as a Nickle Corner. Sparano may take it easy on Brown and Allen.

7. Who starts at FS?

Chris Clemons is penciled in as the starter. Can we trust this second year player who didn't perform well in his limited playing time. Or should we rely on the rookie Reshad Jones or veteran Tyrone Culver.

8. How will Mike Nolan help this defense?

We got Nolan after Paul P. was fired. Mike Nolan is one of the best defensive minds in the NFL. In my opinion, he's up there with Dick Lebeau.

With this young defense, how will Nolan help them all become impact players?

9. How does Randy Starks adjust to playing NT?

The day after we drafted Odrick, Jeff Ireland announced that Randy Starks would be moved from DE to NT. Starks was our best Defensive Lineman, and should have gone to the pro-bowl. I'm hoping we can still get a little pass rush out of him.

10. Are we a Super Bowl team?

A few weeks ago, Michael Lombardi, wrote a post about the AFC teams. He had us as a blue-chip team, or a Super Bowl team.

I don't think we're there yet, I see us as a playoff team, but there is alwasy hope. If Brown stays healthy and Henne can become an elite QB and the defense stays healthy, we may, just may see ourselves in the Super Bowl this year.

Let me know if there's any grammer errors, or a link won't work. Comments are appreciated.

People make the point that Misi wasn't a dominant pass rusher in college

and worry that he won’t get double digit sacks in his rookie year.
My point is, “what good is it if Wake blows by his man only to watch the QB dump off a short pass to a wide open TE who takes it to the house?” IF Misi covers the TE or RB outlet like a blanket, then expect to see Wake pile up the sacks. Misi might get a few sacks here and there, but his most important role is to take away the TE/RB dumpoff or hot route so that our pass rushers can get to the QB with the ball still in his hand.

Jared Odrick 6-5 304 DL & Tim Dobbins 6-1 246 ILB & Koa Misi 6-3 251 LOLB
Brandon Marshall 6-4 230 WR; John Jerry 6-5 328 LG; AJ Edds 6-3 247 LILB
Nolan Carroll 5-11 204 CB & Rashad Jones 6-1 214 S; Chris McCoy 6-3 244 ROLB; Austin Spitler RILB 6-2 243; Pet Cat:Chris "He's the REAL" McCoy 6-3 244

About #10

I continue to see people express their doubts about Miami’s Super Bowl ability by saying such things as “if this person does this” and “if that person stays healthy”, etc… What NFL team doesn’t start this season with “We can make the Super Bowl IF…?” What team doesn’t have an unproven or average player starting in some place on the team? Every Super Bowl team needs players to step up, reach and exceed potential, execute plays, and keep injuries low. We aren’t the Bills or the Bucs or the Rams. We have talent and passion all over the field. We are now good enough to beat any team on any field. Are we a proven, dominant team… no. Can we, this year, be one and bring the Lombardi trophy home… heck yea. Believe.
