The All-Miami Team. Pt.2 (Defense)
Here is my All-Miami Team (Defense) Many greats have come and gone through the years. I wonder who out of our current roster will go down as a Dolphin great in the future. Merling? Langford? Wake? Henne? Long? Davis? S. Smith? Hmmm, what do you think?
CB1 Sam Madison- (1997-05), 353 tackles, 1 sack, 31 INTs, 4 FRs. Drafted by the Fins in the second round of 1997. Selected to 4 straight Pro Bowls from 99-02. Madison is 3rd in interceptions on our all time list.
CB2 Pat Surtain- (1998-2004), 344 tackles 6.5 sacks, 29 INTs, 4 FRs. Drafted by the Fins in the second round of 1998. Selected to 3 straight Pro Bowls from 02-04. Surtain is tied for 4th in interceptions on our all time list.
Safety1- Dick Anderson- (1968-77), 34 INTs, 17 FRs. Drafted by the Fins in 1968. He was named "Defensive Rookie of the Year," 3 Pro Bowls, and one "Defensive Player of the Year Award." He was a part of the "No Name Defense." Anderson is 2nd in interceptions on the Fins all time list.
Safety2- Jake Scott- (1970-75), 35 INTs, 7 FRs. Drafted by the Fins in the 7th round of 1970. Picked off 5 passes during his rookie campaign. Then the following year he recorded 7. He is the Fins all time leader in interceptions. He was selected to 5 Pro Bowls
OLB- Hugh Green (1985-91), one of Shula's guys. 7th Overall pick by the Bucs in 1981. Played 6 1/2 solid seasons in Miami after being traded from the Bucs to the Fins in the 1985 season. His career high for a single season (in sacks) is 7.5. Appeared in 2 Pro Bowls.
OLB- A.J. Duhe (1977-84) - Drafted in the 1st round of the 1977 draft. Duhe would've have had a much more productive career if he wasn't plaigued by injury. He was a one time Pro Bowler.
ILB- Zach Thomas- (1996-2007) Drafted in the 5th round of the 1996 draft. Thomas recorded over 1,000 tackles with the Fins and was selected to 8 Pro Bowls. That's almost every season he played in the NFL. In 2001, he had 155 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions 2 forced fumbles and defensed 4 passes and was a First-team All-Pro for the 3rd time. Now, only if Crowder could produce like that. I know...wishful thinking.
ILB- Nick Buoniconti- (1969-76) Drafted in 1962 by the Boston Patriots. He was traded to the Fins in 1969. Though he played half his career with the Patriots, he still had a good run with the Fins for seven seasons. He was the team MVP three times and selected to two Pro Bowls. He recorded 24 sacks in his career.
DE- Jason Taylor- (1997-07) Drafted in 1997 by the Fins in the 3rd round. He has recorded 127.5 sacks (and counting) over his career and is currently 9th on the all time NFL sack list. He is by far the all time sack artist for the Miami Dolphins. I wish him the best in NY. He is still one of my favorite players of all time. I just won't be rooting for him come game time.
Taylor has won numerous awards throughout his career, including the 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award and the 2007 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, the only league honor that recognizes both on-field achievements and off-the-field contributions. Taylor is also a six-time Pro Bowl selection (2000, 2002, 2004–2007), a four-time First or Second Team All-Pro (2000–2002, 2006), a two time NFL AlumniAssociation Defensive Lineman of the Year (2005, 2006), and the NFL Alumni Association Pass Rusher of the Year (2000)
DE- Bill Stanfill-(1969-76) Drafted in 1969 in the 1st round. Stanfill is second amongst Miami's sack leaders with 67.5 sacks and 18.5 in a single season, tied with taylor. He stands alone with recording five in one game. He was selected to 4 Pro Bowls and was a half sack behind Den Herder with 10.5 sacks during the undefeated season.
DT- Bob Baumhower- (1977-86) He was the Fin's second round (40th overall) pick in 1977. Part of the Killer B squad. He was selected to five Pro Bowls
DT- Tim Bowens- (1994-04) Bowens was drafted 20th overall by the Fins in 94'. He recorded 407 tackles, 22 sacks, and a pick during his tenure with the Fins. He was the 94' Defensive Rookie of the Year, selected to two Pro Bowls, and one All-Pro.
Honorable Mention:
CB-Troy Vincent
Safety- Glenn Blackwood
OLB- Joey Porter
ILB- John Offerdahl
DE- Doug Betters
As I was doing this I realized the solid players we drafted from 96-98. Madison, Surtain, Thomas and Taylor all arrived to the Fins through these three drafts. Somebody was doing there homework. I'm sure I'm missing a few also.

He will definitely be.
He’s probably the easiest to predict. I think Vontae will be too. He has the makings of a play maker. He showed some flashes last season. I also think Henne might be.

There are two many choices
But I went with a guy that has proven himself all ready with Ricky Williams.
Wake!
Anyone else see it?

Still a stretch at this point for a guy that has given us one season of reserve work.

Let's see:
Henne One year of medocre play. Shows a bunch of promise though.
Brown: Injured and he might only have one or two more years of elite type of play.
Vontae Davis: Had 4 INTs, but gave up too many plays. Shows promise.
Sean Smith: Played the outside shoudler, therefore giving up big plays on the inside. No INTs.
Langford: Has been solid, but nothing spectacular. Not sure how much upside he has.
Starks: Great at DE, but now plays NT.
Jake Long: As close to a lock as you can get.
Any of those choices, except for Long, is just an educated guess.

Just saying that most of these people
haven’t given us more than a season either. But they all have the ability to be great.

I personally think Long,
Henne and Marshall will have the best careers. At 26, Marshall could easily be with the Phins for the rest of his career. He’s a lock for the next five seasons. That’s plenty of time for him to shatter team records and to help Henne become an elite QB.

Long and Marshall have already proven they are great players in this league.
Now we just need Henne to take that next step.

Any thoughts about Dansby?
Just think how stupid the average Jest fan is, and then realize that half of them are even stupider! ( a parody of a George Carlin line)
