Jets-Phins: Best Combined 53-Man Roster

Ok, just to have a little fun (feels like forever until training camp) I made my best 53-man roster using players from the NY Jets and the Miami Dolphins current rosters.
I assigned 24 roster spots for offense, 26 for defense and 3 for special teams. Overall Miami claimed 24 spots and New York claimed 29. New York also had more starters with 14 compared with 11 for Miami.
Some might prefer choosing more or less depth at certain positions, but this is a pretty standard roster, so it is what it is.
Miami got the benefit of the doubt in a number of cases where experience and/or uncertainty were factors, like at the QB & RB positions and special teams.
Also, in choosing a roster, versatility can be a greater asset than being very good at one position. For example, I like Jake Long starting at LT, but then what about D'Brickashaw Ferguson? It seems a little extravagant to have a second elite tackle on the roster. On the other hand he's too good to leave off. So again it is what it is.
It was fun to compile this roster and I think both teams are talented and could have good seasons. Hopefully, the Jets and Phins will have a couple of great games this season.

Good points. Not having Polite who is arguably the best at his position in the NFL the starter
is a total joke. Its obvious that you know your own teams roster but you need to get to know the Phins roster a lot better before you attempt a post like this.

Brad Smith isnt neccessarily a world beater so i find it hard that you put him over someone who caught 76 passes last season
and Yeremiah Bell was a Pro Bowler last season enough said

- guy on the list is Ovie Mughelli for Atlanta … I don’t remember that guy … But it was obviously strictly measuring his blocking… I think you add the second best blocking to his numbers on 3rd and short conversions … he is the clear #1 FB in the NFL Also … Lousaka averaged that much on almost 300 more snaps…

he’s a hell of a FB. Great blocker and way more versatile as a receiver then Lousaka. And you should remember him, him and the falcons beat us pretty good last year in week 1. But 4th and short il take Polite behind Jake Long over any duo in the NFL.

There is no way that Le’Ron McClain was better than Polite was last year … How many #rd downs did he convert in a row last year? wasn’t it like 17 or was it more than that?? richardson is a different type of fullback then polite
polite is a short yardage fullback, richardson is a blocking fullback. their play doesn’t show up in the stats, but richardson has block for 8 different 1000 yard rushers. it’s hard to dismiss what he brings to a running game.

Eh ... good point ... but I would say ...
Incognito has been tested … but failed twice when he decided to head butt an opposing player 2 times … when both of them had helmets on and got flagged a total of 30 yards and $50,000. Did he really think it was worth it? I can remember headbutting my own teammates before a game to get psyched up … It doesn’t hurt … you are wearing a helmet … If you are going to get flagged and fined … at least get your money’s worth … and maybe something a bit less obvious… maybe you don’t get caught then …

To argue in favor of a guy that headbutted another player twice in one game .. while they were both wearing helmets…

Also the reason that a fan from another team like myself does not even bother
to visit anymore is the crass and hateful manner in which fans from other teams are allowed to be treated. I for one think that every member of GGN should be ashamed of how that site is moderated. I was there defending Matty and was called every name in the book and had my entire family personally attacked. I never lowered myself to their level and yet I was the one that was banned while those other clowns were left to their devises. Thats downright shameful at the very least. I will give you props for remaining respectful even if you are blinded by your homerism but as far as GGN as a whole goes thats a sad group of human-beings over there as a whole.

I wont say all of them are like that. There are good guys over there. I don’t remember there names but I’ve had friendly conversations with some. But, it sure seems like most are punks.
Maybe the punks show up when they see we are taking notice in their site. Its a good rivalry but some people on both sides take it too far.

I agree that its not all but there are enough that are allowed to run wild and
I would make the argument that they are all to blame to some degree. I do not recall any of the so called “good guys” stepping in when the others clearly crossed the line like you will see here almost every single time someone crosses a line. To me that the same thing as endorsing that sort of vile behavior by the other members and even the moderators. Sad!

There was actually a ton of criticism
over the fact that he was not nominated for an oscar for that role. The theory is that he was overlooked because of the type of movie it was and thats hard to disagree with.

What he is saying is that he really thinks that Sanchez is better .. but he knows he does not have the evidence to back it up at this point … so he is not going to get into an argument over it .. so he is conceeding that position to us … He is also saying that he thinks Shonn Greene is better than Ronnie Brown btw… he just is not going to make the case that he is … because again .. there is not enough evidence for that …

Overall it is pretty close to what I would do ...
There are a few things though … Move D’Brickashaw Ferguson to the RT. He is your best T behind Jake Long and you would want him on the field over Woody. Drop Tony Richardson and start Lousaka Polite. If you question that go back to the game he had against you guys where he was laying the wood on your defense to open the way for Ronnie and Ricky.
Ok now that I have said that though … As far as a #3 RB I would go with Lex Hilliard over Ricky Williams. The guy is a bruiser and could also fill in at FB. Every time he touched the ball he made things happen. Ricky retires next year.. he has already said it. We kept a 4th RB last year instead of 3 because of what this kid did in the preseason and training camp. You do not keep 4 RBs because you think you might be able to develop one into a #3 RB… He is the guy we are replacing Ronnie Brown with next year.
We would want an extra offensive lineman before we would want 2 FBs. Remember this is a team carrying a bunch of guys that could do that job in a pinch(Ricky, Shonn, Ronnie… take your pick). To be honest I am not sure who our starting guard this year will be because right now we have 4 guards with either starting experience or starting potential in the case of John Jerry. Donald Thomas, Richie Incognito, John Jerry, and Cory Procter. My picks for an extra backup would be either Donald Thomas or Richie Incognito though …
I like Bess as a receiver simply based on the numbers .. The guy was money on 3rd down conversions last year and we had no #1 receiver to draw attention away from him either..
Koa Misi and AJ Edds over Charlie Anderson and Channing Crowder for the same reason as above … I personally think Cameron Wake will be taking over for Anderson before the season starts and Koa Misi is already starting on the other side. AJ Edds is already projected to start almost immediately at ILB on 3rd down situations because the guy is amazing in coverage. Having converted to LB from TE the guy has good hands and can cover. He had more interceptions in college than most FS’s in the draft. What does Crowder bring to the table as a backup??
I would agree with Calvin Pace as a starting OLB over Wake, but given the fact that Wake came off the bench and produced 5.5 sacks last year in a really bad defensive scheme to Calvin Pace’s 8 in probably the best defensive scheme out there, you would be crazy not to bring in Wake on passing downs.
Sean Smith over Cromartie. Watch the one-handed INT against the Saints in the preseason or the game that he shut down TO. Yeah TO is losing it, but you would have thought that TO was the rookie and Sean Smith was the veteran the way he took advantage of him. Of course we never got to see him against Moss or some of the other big receivers because our defensive coordinator was a moron … but that is for another post …

There were a few times where I saw...
TO went up to make a catch on a short out … and Sean Smith put his hands up to “make a play on the ball” (of course) and stopped TO from being able to jump up to make the catch… If you look at it … it almost looks like he pushed TO’s head down to keep him from going up after the ball…. Of course it wasn’t called so it never happened that way ….

that was a freak play if you watch it again though, they both kind of got tripped up
and the ball came in weird but Smith was right on him just got bad luck. To be honest Smith caught alot of bad breaks last year, he was in position on alot of the big plays he let up (que Sam Aiken catch) I expect that to change this year

and thats all about the rookie growing pains on that sam Akien play i though that was an automatic pick for sean, but this year i expect him t make the plays he didnt make last year

you have some good points
but despite the numbers I don’t agree with Bess over Smith. smith brings a lot of versatiility and he doesn’t fumble kick returns :).

ill take him over Smith for 3rd WR. But i’d definetly take Smith as KR/PR the guy is dynamic and he would make this roster no doubt.
