Dolphins cornerback tandem gets some love
On NFL Total Access on Friday, the analyst on the set were going through and listing who in their opinion were the top units - including best receiving corps and top cornerback tandem. And Muhsin Muhammad chose a cornerback tandem from the AFC East as the top tandem in the entire NFL.
No - not the Jets. He said that Sean Smith and Vontae Davis of our Miami Dolphins were the top tandem in the NFL.
Works for me.

ehh.
i think our guys will be one of the best in the NFL. but right now i’d say the Bengals with Leon Hall and Jonathan Joseph are the best. i think our guys will be the best one day though.

He went on to say that Sean Smith and Vontae Davis of our Miami Dolphins are the top tandem in the NFL.

He compared them to Surtain/Madison
God I hope so!
Most exciting Miami offseason since Ricky came to town!
maybe in a year or 2
but i think it’s a bit of a stretch based on their perfomances last year. if they can get more consistent we could have 2 lock down shut ’em out corners for a long time to come.
yeah the bengals do have the best...no safetys tho
but where can i watch the replay of this??
when in doubt...hit a jets fan in the mouth

Chris Crocker
has played pretty well with the Bengals.
Staring down Mark Sanchez. Just look into the those brown beauties.
Pretty awesome to get an endorsement from Muhammad
I was hoping he would name the Dolphins duo and he obliged:) Thought he might go with the Jets tandem but thankfully not!

I agree , I've only rewatched the games on nfl replay, BUT
considering it was their first year, and the teams they played ( QB’s and WR’s ) the times that they got beat or really messed up there was no pressure on the QB and going into this year , while Revis might be the best single, I’m not sold on Cromartie (7 – 6 – 5 ) Bengals would be closer IMO,
Yeah, I'm not touching this kool aid....
Not yet anyway.
Nice to hear, but definitely definitely too soon.
So there I was.....asleep when it happened.....the buzzing of the blackberry woke me up....still groggy, I rubbed my eyes, and read the incoming email.
BRANDON MARSHALL IS A DOLPHIN!
Then I had a beer....took the day off work, and bought a box of condoms.

I really like how davis brings it when he tackles.

Listen people i dont think he means they are the best right now
i think he means it more from a potential standpoint and the fact that they will only get stronger
i mean c’mon clearly after all the wr that torched them for ig plays they are far from the best especially in their rookie year, but their are on their way

Kool-Aid is yummy just like
Sean and Vontae. What does Muhammed know anyway? Oh wait, he was one of the best WR in the league. I agree with him 100%
Miami Dolphin fan since 1971. Ricky Williams for starting RB! 2010 a SEASON to Remember. Brandon Marshall will pick a number! Trust the TRIUMVERATE!!
you have a point this is coming from a wide receiver standpoint and a good one at that

I love these guys. There is HUGE upside for both
In a couple of years we will have one of the TOP 5 defensive backfields in all of football.

my favorite part of this clip?
(other than Moose’s hilariously awful Mr T, or course) is Rod nodding at the word swagger—“a lot of swagger down in Miami.”
That’s what I want to see from this team, and that’s what I think they are getting. Swagger and confidence are just symptoms of belief, and you can’t win if you don’t believe you can win.

Now if we could only pick up Atogwe
We could possibly have the best secondary in the league. Picture this lineup…Vontae Davis and Sean Smith playing the ends, and Will Allen at the nickel spot. Then we have Yeremiah and OJ deep. And when Yeremiah gets too old to start, Reshad Jones can replace him.
OJ Atogwe would complete our defense.
...or at least complete our secondary.
Both OLB spots are still unproven. But I do think Cameron Wake will be a sack machine next year, and we definitely got some guys who can compete for the SOLB spot next year.
God I can’t wait for the season to start.
I really wanted OJ before...
But now I really really think they need to develop either Clemons or Reshad Jones (with the accent on Jones). I kinda think Otagwe looks as good as he does only because the Rams are so lousy beside him. And isn’t OJ another SS? We need a TRUE FS! If only Clemons, a true FS, could take a quantum leap.
If clemons ends up starting I think I'll shoot myself.
Culver looks the best to me, unless Jones can develop. But still even so, none of our FS our proven. OJ is very good, and will be better on the Dolphins as they will be more of a winning team than the rams, at the very least. I have high expectations for this team, but I still believe there’s a void at FS.
If FS and OLB can somehow be fixed by Nolan we easily make the playoffs
or we lose a bunch of close games we prob coulda won and don’t
Muhammed's comment carries more weight than Woodson's
Anyway, I never watch the Bengals so I don’t know. But, after seeing Davis get that int against the Bills week 4 for a TC, then int Brady and a few others, and see the guy hit, I’d say right now he was the best corner in the 2009 draft…maybe the Saints wished they had not listened to the naysayers about Davis’s attitude when they drafted Malcomb Jenkins instead (who will be converted to safety this year). I remember the days of Ronnie Lott and Eric Wright (I know, both were safeties) but when a tandem of rookies has the impact that Davis and Smith has as corners in 2009, I think these two could have the same kind of results soon. (Smith, however, needs to start hitting like Davis!).
anyway, Mushin did say the Jets, then went on to say Davis and Smith in the near future, maybe this year. Still why is everyone so high on Cromartie? He had one great year and the rest of the time he’s been average at best.
As for “Revis Island,” the guy can be beaten. Heck, Ted Ginn did it, so can any other WR. When Revis gets his big payday, he WILL slacken off. He will no longer have the incentive to be the best. Happens a lot to good players. Just because “the great one” Ryan is his coach doesn’t mean it won’t happen to him.
right, but they still arent the best tandem in the entire NFL

Agreed...
… look at where these two are on some lists and opinions and it’s amazing it was their rookie year. I see a very good year for them in the 2010 season……

Echoing the sentiments of a lot of others here
Too soon – but the promising talent means it could be coming soon – just imagine if all the young guys peak at the right time – Wake, Smith, Davis, Henne, Bess being supported by Marshall, Dansby, and the other veterans. It’s looking bright in Miami’s future. Lets hope no one gets hurt.
Staring down Mark Sanchez. Just look into the those brown beauties.
I think the fact that they didn't get burned
EVERY SINGLE PLAY
and had to cover top 5 receivers all year is saying something for a pair of rooks.
You can’t ask much more from them with no REAL help over the top and a sub par (IN this defense) pass rush.
BM is a bad acronym for Brandon Marshall. He's more like a BaMf.

Also have to take into consideration
the big plays made against top 5 WRs. Davis had some sweet picks on one of the best (Moss)…
Ain't that the truth...
I remember going into the ’09 season worried to hell about our secondary play against guys like Roddy White, Steve Smith, Peyton, Drew Brees, Moss, T.O., etc. Even then 7-9 is pretty good with rookie CBs.

But opposing OCs do have to account for him and he is a very highly regarded vet.
oc's dont really account for corners
You just put your best wr on him thats all…its not like hes Darrelle Revis or Deion
