added depth to our lb core?
adam schefter just reported that matt roth (someone we all our familiar with) wants to be traded out of cleveland because both sides cant agree on a long term deal.
i think miami should atleast take a look at this possible trade. give up a low round draft pick and in return get a guy that knows our team, defense, and coaches. with so many rookies playing on our defense and no veterans to keep them in line and explain the game. why not just pick him up for added depth?
any thoughts???

Negative...
It would be silly to trade for a player you willingly cut last season. I think the only potential player still out there we could go after would be Atogwe. Aside from him, I think the FO is moving forward with the current roster.

but...
when we did let him go the man exploded for the browns. i mean yeah we cut him but that dude is good. he just needs the right motivation.
I don't think we'll go after Atogwe, but he's about the only guy we might go after...
We could still sign Adalius Thomas if the coaches were really concerned about our OLB depth, but I don’t really see that either.

Also - it's not the same defense.
New defensive coordinator, so if this went down, he would still have to learn a new defense.

agreed.
we dropped him in mid season (if im correct) and the dude played great and picked up that defense with ease.
im not saying start the guy but just bring him in and play him in and place him in certain packages
we dropped him for a reason,
maybe it was his play or maybe it was his mood, but we dropped him and we wanted nothing to do with him then, why should we stab ourselves in the back and bring him back. What kinda tone does that set for the rest of the team. If you dont produce we will get rid of you, only to go back after you later.Plus think of how many of us would be pissed off if we brought him back and not JT!!!! 2 totality different player and JT is better all around and we let him walk. Weren’t we just talking loality over the weekend, what kind would this show. Yes he is a solid player but not worth the comotion it would bring if he came back. I’m not sold on all of the FO ideas but im not in charge, so I have to trust them and join the youth movement to get better for the long haul!! We have plenty of youth in the LBs somebody has to be good there atleast 2 out of what 10 we have now in camp? the only thing else that would be worth the chase would be OJ at FS, but doubt that will happen. I think what you see now is what we have for this season and it is a whole lot better than last!!!!
You don't trade for guys that you waived months earlier
Roth is a turd that is trying to get paid. Same case for Shawn Merrimen. They’ve been injured in their careers and seem to not want to take the risk without getting paid first. Too bad for both of them that they’re stuck in their current situations.
We don’t need anymore LBs
The Front Office continues to prove we should trust them
Stephen Ross continues to prove we should appreciate him
What better defense on a Jet than an Air Marshall?

guess i hit a nerve in you guys. i want our team to be great and was looking at every option out there. my bad lol
(i still think it wouldnt hurt us though) lol
Perhaps your taking it wrong?????
Just because a fan does not agree with you does not mean that they do not want to do whatever to make the team great. It comes off as a bit arrogant to assume as much don’t you think???

It would look pretty bad if we traded back for a guy we released
I don’t think anyone’s saying it would hurt our team, I think Roth is a good player. But it would make us look extremely incompetent to give something up for a player we let go for nothing.
No kidding. He seems fairly unhappy anywhere he goes. Not the kind of player this FO is looking for.

I really liked Roth, but I don't think so.

Roth wore out his welcome in Miami
I really liked this kid but he is a punk with all his fake injury/sickness whatever that BS was. I saw him play in college and he was a stud but screw him. Hopefully he will go to the Jests and Carey/Long/Incognito etc can beat his sorry ass!

I really like Roth as a player
but he has burned his bridge here. I hope he gets the contract and opportunity he deserves. He seems to be a hard nosed work a holic with a short fuse who loves playing football. Hopefully it works out for him just not here.
Some bridges have been burned...
and I think that’s what makes the proposed move, highly unlikely.
Can’t say I blame him for not wanting to be part of the Holgrem/Mangini disaster, but that’s two teams in a row where he’s had problems. Pretty soon, you start getting a reputation.
You think the Holmgren era in Cleveland is going to be a disaster, Nat?

The Mangini half is a given...
and so far, I’m not crazy about Holgrem’s moves….
I mean Jake Delhomme for $7M in 2010? Giving up 3 picks for Modesto Hardesty? Joe Haden a top 10 pick?
But Colt McCoy!
Just listen to how it rolls off the tongue… Colt McCoy.

It will surely be completed every time.
It will be like the old school Madden with Marino. Back in the day you could line up with Marino a QB and just throw the hail Mary every down and complete it over 50% of the time. Basically if you could play any D you always won. Those were the good old days!

The great players in that game are incredible, like Walter Payton beating everybody to the corner, well except Lawerence Taylor, my gosh he could sack the QB on every play.
I never had one. I guess I was deprived.

Roth
He’s a good player, but we dropped him because he held out of training camp because he wanted a new contract. Neither side was forthright because both were entrenched in their positions, but it was obvious that Roth didn’t have any injury.
I’m sure that the Trifecta didn’t like Roth’s tactics. They felt that he needed to work for his next contract, and it was clear that Roth felt that he had done enough to merit one. So they cut their losses. A shame it came to this, but in my view, it was on Roth.
I say why not?
if we sign him and he has problems with us again, then we ship him out
but if he is good…
WE GOT BRANDON MARSHALL!!!!!

Roth would certainly help our LB corps
that much can’t really be debated, because he’s a beast vs the run and plays with a high motor from the strongside. The problem comes from how he basically engineered his way out of Miami by, if not outright faking, embellishing an injury and holding out for a bigger contract. That attitude got him cut, and he signed with Cleveland. A year later, he’s unhappy in Cleveland, and wants to be traded. He’s coming off as a me-first type player, that wants to be rewarded for very little. I don’t know if he fits with the chemistry and atmosphere created by the guys in charge, which is why he was cut in the first place.

I didnt like this guy. i thoght he had 1 good year in 2008 when he moved to solb but other than that i thought he was a bust. He was a shitty DE. Im glad his not a Fin nemore.
sounds to me
Like it would be more like reliving the whole taylor thing, only we would be paying instead of getting paid.
Truth is,it’ll hurt us in the long run in more than one way.
1.koa loses much needed snaps
2.it makes our fo look worse than the whole ernest wilford and gibril wilson thing combined.
3.after the whole jt thing, would you really want this issue?
4.roth had two semi okay seasons, and now thinks he’s worth more than what he’s making, its the prime example of what’s wrong in the nfl today, more about money than the love of the game, its sad really, americas game is being corrupted by the people paid millions by us the fans, and it really just doesn’t seem right.

There was obviously a huge problem with Roth last year, why the hell would we trade for him now after cutting him lose. We may never get the whole story of what happened but I’m sure when the trio cut ties with him they did so for good.
