A position in much debate in the off season has been at the wide out spot. With all the speculation of the draft, free agency and the potential of our own young wr core, who out of the current dolphin wr would you want gone? Say if the FO wanted to complete a trade for draft picks or with a package with Smiley which wr would you want to be traded? Keep in mind this post focuses mainly on the who've had action over the past season not the no name, unknowns on the practice squad.
All of our wrs are basically unproven and average at best with most of them getting by with mediocre numbers and the hope that next season they'll rise up to the challenge. Our current wrs are really just late round hopefuls who've proven to some degree that they (to some extent) have potential (with the exception of Camarillo).
To me it comes down to one thing, upside.
Alot of upside (young, triangle numbers)
Trade Value: 4th or 5th round picks
Brian Hartline, Pat Turner.
These guys are young and have proven to some degree that they have potential. Hartline actually has the stats to prove it and has made some big plays in his first season, in contrast Turner has shown jack but his only 22 and gets by with his triangle numbers and is the only wr of his type on the roster.
Average upside (has player several season but hasn't played their best):
Value: 3rd round pick.
Ted Ginn, Davone Bess.
We all know the story of Ted Ginn and many have zero or very little hope for the kid, but i believe he does have potential to become a consistent deep threat with the right surrounding cast. Bess however is a top notch slot wr who has proven him self enough to become our best wr, with that said i believe he can produce big numbers if we had more weapons on offense.
Little upside (what you see is what you get):
Value: 5/6th round pick
Mr consistent right here, this guy is an average wr who'll make 3,4 catches for 30,40 yards every game. He has little upside as his 27 and has lingered around the 500-600 yard mark for the past two seasons. This guy to me is the most dispensable as Bess can easily replace him if we were to bring in a rookie wr.
